Those staying onsite, best way to get WOC FP?

Use the GCH entrance to DCA or order a meal?

I am staying at the GCH in mid August. I want to see WOC at 9pm and get FP's with minimal issues.

Am I better off:

using the GCH entrance early in the am and getting a FP?

or

ordering a picnic or sit down meal?

The problem with the latter is that, besides spending money that I don't really want to spend, I have a child with food allergies, and I know the picnic lunches will not be safe for her. I'm not sure if the sit down meals could be adapted for her, but I really don't want the sit down option because it is too much money.

On June 11 (opening day), someone (who was staying on-site) used the GCH entrance to DCA and was able to get a WOC FastPass in 10 minutes.

Here's the quote from MP's Weekly Update (June 14):

"We were there on June 11. I had heard that since it was opening night is was going to be tough to get a Fastpass ticket but my daughter really wanted to go (we could see the fountains from our room at the Paradise so she had a teaser—and just so you know you can also hear the show from the Paradise) so I said we would try. We had a character breakfast that a.m. and people were allowed to line up at the Esplanade at 7:00 a.m. so I wasn't holding my breath. To my surprise when we were allowed entry through the Grand Entrance - which is right by the fastpass machines—at 9:30, I was in the Fastpass lane and out of the Fastpass booth within 10 minutes." - MP's cbond2112

Thanks OP, we have the exact same question. We are onsite and have a picnic ordered just for the FP but since we can use the Grand it would be perfect.

When we enter which way and where do we go? I get lost going to the bathroom. I have to exact on this so I don't miss the window of opportunity to get the FP without a long wait.
