Well, first off, they cannot be kicked out because some people were annoyed by the shoes. And secondly, unless this was a high end restaurant that doesnt allow children, you should expect kids to be there, and at that age, kids can be loud.

So, yes, It was extremely rude, if it even happend at all. Because the more I think about it, the more I dont believe that story.

I still don't see how it was rude. Restaurants often will give freebies if they think something was annoying the customer.

Is it rude because they didn't reward the obnoxious family? Why would they? And yes, any owner of ANY business can kick someone out for that reason or any reason if they deem necessary. It was not high end, and there were more than one family with kids (us included) but no other family thought it was acceptable to let their kids wander around the restaurant, let alone with shoes that let out a loud squeak every time she stepped. And I wouldn't expect that at any place other than a McDonald's or a Chuck E. Cheese or some other place that is specifically for kids.

You can choose not to believe it, but it did happen. And unless there was any doubt, it was served to us with specific apologies.

I have three grown children and one grandson, and I've never heard (no pun intended) of these squeaky shoes until now. I clicked on the youtube link that a PP put in her reply.

Although the shoes DO sound a bit annoying (okay, a lot annoying) I got a kick out of watching the clips of the babies and toddlers walking around in them.

I have a pair of Teva Mesh sandals that squeak when I walk in them and it drives me nuts! I can't find a way to make them stop! So, if you happened to be in the new Super Target in Tucson this afternoon, it wasn't a squeaky shoe kid, it was me. After watching those clips of sqeaky shoes, I think I'm going to go throw out my defective Tevas.

And it must have been a REALLY quiet place for everyone to hear those shoes! Amazing!

It's one thing for there to be "normal" kid noises (and even then, parents should control their kids out in public so that their normal noises...like squealing (even in WalMart )...don't get out of hand). It's another to provide them with another source of creating an annoyance. I wouldn't let me kids wear shoes in public that were specifically made to be noisy; I wouldn't let them take noisy toys either.

I have a new pair of Crocs Blitzens that squeaked like crazy. I thought it was the bottom on the floor making the squeaking. I happen to wash the liner and...no more squeaking.

I've tried washing them, scrubbing them, and sprinkling baby powder on the foot part. So far, nothing has worked.

Not 20, but 2 pairs. I just take the squeeker out until it is almost time to go home. With 2 little ones running around my small classroom all day, or worse in the gym because we can't go out the sound would make me crazy if the squeeks didn't come out. One mom appologized profusely because dad had let her wear them, the other didn't even seem to notice. Every one has their own comfort level with what may or mat not annoy others.

Bingo! When a shoe squeaking toddler is roaming around a restaurant, there is some negligent parenting going on. No parent in their right mind lets a toddler go on walkabouts in a restaurant where they can trip a server with a tray of hot food. Let's play"chicken" with the unsuspecting waitstaff for grins, shall we? And if princess gets a serious burn, well, it was all in good fun.

The squeaky shoes are beyond obnoxious, but what do you expect from parents who think their little darling should be able to roam free in a restaurant? Give the kid a year or two and he/she will be sticking their fingers in the food of other diners, much to the amusement of mommy and daddy. If I'd been in a restaurant with squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak, my one last nerve would have been shot pretty fast. Yes, I'd have spoken to the manager and yes, I'd have left if the manager didn't put a stop to it. One table of nitwit parents shouldn't be allowed to ruin the dining experience for that of others. Someone has to trump, and in this case, the people who are not making obnoxious noises and letting their kids run loose should win out.

I was at THE LIBRARY the other day and heard the irritating sound of said squeaky shoes. Over and over and over. Who needs THAT in a library? Did mommy not get the memo that libraries are supposed to be quiet? But considering her little angel stopped squeaky walking long enough to try and tear up a few books, it's hard to say which behavior was worse. Mommy thought it was all adorable.

No, no I don't. In fact, I probably look kind of scary because I have to alter the way I walk in order to minimize the squeak. Sometimes I can lessen the squeak by putting more pressure on the toe part of the sandal and less on the heel. Not a pretty picture. Yeah, I think it's time to get rid of the sandals. I have other pairs of Tevas and none of the others squeak.

OK, I have a picture in my mind...

My 87 yr old mother is in Assisted Living. I wanted to leave toys there for when the great grandchildren visit (rarely...they're all out of state) and I chose soft blocks. Couldn't have been better! The kids love them, they play quieter with them than with other toys, and the risk of mom getting a concussion from other types of toys being flung around is eliminated. And the adults can talk to each other, for the most part; I mean, we can't duct tape the kiddies' mouths. The authorities frown on that. I've heard. If any of the great grands were wearing those squeaky shoes, I'd be taking them off when no one was looking and hiding them.

Me too! Although mine weren't Tevas, but a pair of navy suede clogs that I LOVED. But they just started squeaking one day and no matter how I tried to adjust my step, there it was. Plenty embarrassing at times too so ultimately, I finally threw them away. Never have found another pair like that (minus the squeak of course)

As far as the toddler shoes I'd never seen or heard of them but have to say that youtube video was darn cute. At HOME anyway, I can't imagine taking a child out in public with them and inflicting it on others!

I think (correct me if I'm wrong here) the reason the Chinese created these shoes was to encourage kids to walk properly. If they walk solely on their toes, they don't get the squeak. The kids like the sound of the squeak, so they learn to walk properly to hear the sound the way.

That being said, there is no way my kid would wear those, even in the house. As soon as we get home shoes and socks come off, much more comfortable that way. I can't stand high pitched noises and I think I'd go bonkers within about 2.56 seconds.
