Those "quiet" pools aren't always quiet

Often I'll see mentioned that a certain resort has a "quiet" pool--or even several "quiet" pools. And this usually means pools w/o lifeguards and other activities (like slides). But many times these pools aren't so quiet or relaxing. Some of the worst behavior I've seen at WDW has occured at these pools. Often one or two families will take over the smaller pools and behave just as tho they were back home. Running when there should be no running, diving when there should be no diving, swimming long after the pool is supposed to be closed.
And then there is the throwing of things. I've dodged Frisbees, softballs, baseballs and once, even teenagers who were throwing a football (and not one of those rubber ones--I mean a real football) in the pool. And the throwing of food in the water is popular-I once saw a collection of parents and relatives watch in sheer delight as 2 of their kids tossed French Fries into the pool!! And there was the time that a group of teens brought their Boombox with them and I was serenaded by Ice T-Bone BOyz -in the Hood ( or whatever) until I was forced to leave.
Point is-if you are looking for some peace and quiet, you may be better off at a pool with lifeguards. At least they are able to maintain some semblance of order.

I have had similar experiences in the quiet pool and in the hot tub. The parents were in the hot tub with their kids in life jackets who were splashing and swimming around in the hot tub. One of their older children said "this is not for swimming, it's a hot tub". After I was obviously splashed more than once, the parents finally stopped letting the kids swim around in the hot tub.

This is why we do not request water/pool view at a Moderate!
I like quiet while in my room!

Some people just blatently ignore rules - when we were at the Dolphin in January - each of the several hot tubs had kids in it - regardless of the clearly posted sign - no one under 16 ( or something like that).

I agree with you! When I stayed at POR had a pool room and like at 12:30 their were little kids running and screaming around and their parents were just sitting their laughing! So this is why I am not gonna get anotyher pool room!

I know it's no excuse but just be forewarned before asking for a pool view that the quiet pools are open 24 hours a day. ~~

The danger of small children in the hot tub is that their body temperature rises and they dehydrate much more quickly than adults.

Did any of you think of contacting the F/D so that they could send someone from Security or Recreation over to request the guests to behave and / or to be quiet. While most guests do follow the rules, but there are always a few that have to be reminded.

I understand the rules about the Hot Tub and thats fine if you get a CM.

But now about the Noise. A quiet has nothing to do with the noise. Disney defines quiet pool as one without Slide LifeGuard etc.
Just a little tid bit of info.

Actually, at one of the pools I mentioned, there were several "non-lifeguard" CM's around at the time..one testing the water , one putting in new towels, and one serving food/drinks.
I don't seriously expect any Disney CM would say anything to a paying guest who appeared to be "having fun". Saying anything to the front desk didn't even occur to me, as I know it would have been a waste of my time.

Actually it surprises me that Disney hotels don't enforce the age rule for hot tubs as it is quite a risk for children to go into them. I have stayed at many hotels with hot tupbs adjacent to the pool and they have all been strictly watched for children in them.

Uncleromulus, I'm so glad to hear someone else say the same thing. We were at POR last June, right next to a "quiet" pool. People weren't overly loud, thank goodness there was no boombox. Just kids and adults yelling and splashing until well after midnight. Since DH is a very light sleeper, it bothered him. So now when we hear the phrase "quiet" pool, we have to laugh-it ain't quiet!

I guess I'd like to throw this out to you guys for an opinion. We were staying at the BWV's. Me, DH and DD who was almost 3 at the time were swimming in the quiet pool at 12: 30 in the afternoon. DD loves to swim w/ the wings on. She was ina great mood. She's not a screamer but an excitable girl. Just having a grand ole time. I thought it was cute and "age appropriate" DH thought she should be "quiet" due to the "quiet" pool. I guess I'm asking what really bothers you guys at the "quiet" pool? a 3 yr old being age appropriate or any "noise" at all? And who was right? Me or DH

I think what Disney means by "quiet" pool is a pool with less activity since there is no water slide, no kiddie pool, no hot tub and no poolside bar at the "quiet" pools. For anyone to believe you have to be "quiet" at the quiet pool is just silly! ~~

No, they are not, and if anyone was there last May, the 3rd weekend and happened to be staying around the quiet pool near Barbados at CBR and heard some really loud woman, I must apologize...that was my cousin in law!!! I wasn't there, I just heard about it... and I am so sorry.

Please, if you are going to take that midnight swim, be considerate of those who are trying to get that good night's rest to enjoy the parks the next day. Remember, they aren't called "quiet pools" for nothing.

Disney hot tubs are not very hot. I've never seen a sign at at Disney hotel about an age limit fo rthe hot tub. When its 50 or 60 out does the hot tub hurt children...the ones in Disney that are not very hot?

Brittsmum: You are right. 3 yos should act like 3 yos. They should squeal and splash and have a good time (as long as they aren't breaking any of the posted rules). Quiet pools don't mean you have to stay quiet, it just means there aren't as many activities going on there.
