....Just a heads up. Kingdom Keepers: Disney at Dawn by R. Pearson was released on 8/26. I know that many of you loved Kingdom Keepers and wanted to let you all know.

Here is the description from Amazon.com. Geared toward "young adult" reader, but I know many adults and enjoyed it as well. Enjoy -

It's supposed to be a happy day at the Magic Kingdom-the return of the teenaged holographic hosts. But things go very wrong when a sudden lightning storm disrupts the celebration, and Amanda's mysterious sister, Jez, disappears. The only clue is the sighting of a wild monkey in the Magic Kingdom during the storm. The mystery deepens as Finn is contacted by Wayne, an old man he hasn't heard from in months. Wayne tells Finn that there's trouble at the Animal Kingdom: the evil Overtakers have gained control of one of the computer servers that will be used to operate Daylight Holographic Imaging there. That means that if any of the holographic hosts fall asleep, they will go into comas-permanently. Filled with action and brimming with the same meticulous detail as The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark, this second book in the series-Disney at Dawn-is the result of hands-on research behind the scenes at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park. Young and older readers alike will get a glimpse into a second Disney kingdom. The wild rides have only just begun; and the clock is ticking. How long can the teens keep themselves awake in their quest to find their friend-and what happens if they fail?

Thanks for the tip--I'd never heard of the series before, but it sounds terrific.

One question: is this the second or third book in the series? I'm seeing what appear to be 2 different books (Kingdom Keepers and Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark), but they sound like the same thing. Perhaps one was the original hardcover edition and the "Disney After Dark" was added when it was published in paperback? These just might be the perfect gift for my dd to read on the plane next week!

Thanks, I'll pick it up. I hated the way the first one ended, so many be this will help finish things better. The ending to the first one was lame, IMHO.

the first one is kingdom keepers. It was awesome...ready for more with disney after dark!!

I think that Disney after dark is just a re release of the original Kingdom Keepers book.

DS read the first book, then I read it and my mom read it twice. It was great. We were hoping that another would be in the works. DS has also read all of the Young Jack Sparrow books. We were at Disney World two weeks ago and found books 11 and 12. For a boy who doesn't like to read. He flies through books about disney and things having to do with disney related characters.

I hope both writers keep the books coming.

Thanks for the information.

Disney After Dark is the second in the series - definitely not just a reprint of Kingdom Keepers. The original Kingdom Keepers is in paperback - may want to get that one for the plane ride. DD is 15 (has not been an avid reader) and was very excited for Disney After Dark to come out.

I finished reading the 2nd book on Friday and loved.

I found the first Kingdom Keepers book on Alibris.com -- a website for independent booksellers, mostly of used books. But the copy I purchased was new, and with shipping was only 5.98.

Also, for older readers who like sci-fi/fantasy, there is Cory Doctorow's "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom," available at his website as a free download. Cory is a frequent contributor to the excellent boingboing.net website, and is one of those tech-renaissance types who does a little bit of everything.

This is Ridley Pearson's website:
http://www.ridleypearson.com/KIDS/kingdom.php

I have Kingdom Keepers, purchased it in 2006 in paperback. On the cover it says Disney after Dark in small type. The spine and opening page simply say Kingdom Keepers.

ETA If your child has already read The Kingdom Keepers I strongly suggest you have her skim through Disney After Dark in the bookstore before you purchase it and find that she's already read it. Disney at Dawn is the second book

Got mine in the mail this week, I put it in my carry on bag to read on the plane when we go to WDW in December. I just had to put it away or I knew I would break down and read it before..
If you like Disney you will probably like these books no matter your age, easy to read and fast paced. They actually would make a good movie on the Disney Channel....

I haven't read the Kingdom Keepers, but my kids have. I'll have to get them the 2nd book now. :thumbsup2

My mistake....yes, Disney at Dawn is the second in the series. Sorry, I was in a hurry in my last post (and should know better.)

I was waiting for some one to mention Doctorow's story. I quite enjoyed this and would recommend it to adult readers.

Loved Loved LOVED Kingdom Keepers 2! I waited so long for it and was so happy with it!

Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom is another of my favs.

Two more of my favorite Disney reads are:
Waking Walt by Larry Pontius (very good sci/fi Disney history/parks book)
Dream Factory by Brad Barkley and Heather Hepler (my favorite! about characters in the parks- more of a teen read, but still really good)

I can't wait to get these for my kids!!! They will both love to read these.
