Those of you who enjoyed the food at Princess Storybook Dining~ Please help!!

We are going on a quick combo trip to Universal/SW/WDW and are leaving tomorrow. We are only going to be staying on property and going to the parks 3 of the 6 days we are there. My dd loves the princesses and since we have already done CRT and PSD(Breakfast) on our last trip I had booked Park Faire as our only princess-type meal. Well the other night DD started telling me how excited she was to be eating with the princesses again . So after talking to her and trying to tell her that we would only be eating with Cinderella and the prince (and her becomming more upset at missing dinner with the princesses ) we decided to see what we could find at Norway. Ended up we can get a ressie at Akershus for dinner so I booked it, but now I have been seeing all the negative comments about the food and it looks like something we wouldn't be all that crazy about. Please tell me what you enjoyed about it... specific things to order. Also what type of sides do they bring? This meal is so important to DD that I don't want to cancel so please help me decide what my family of very picky eaters will enjoy.

We have eaten there twice, I don't think you said which meal(?), both times were for breakfast. We loved it both times. The food was good and the interaction with the princesses was great. I would keep it.
I wouldn't trust anyone else's decision on food until you at least try it. You will see people who say they hate a certain place and some people just love it. There are plenty of people of like Garden Grill...personally I think it's the worst food I've ever had at Disney.

For me, the food doesn't matter..which is saying something! I am a bigtime foodie.

But when I go to a character meal, the food is secondary (by a big margin) to the experience for the kids...and this place scored for us. It seemed like we had much more one on one time at the table than we did at CRT.

Our food at Akershus last summer was good, our only issues with our meal there was a MIA server and feeling that it was overpriced (but we went for the food, not the princesses).

We had:
Me, the salmon which was very good
DH had the traditional kjottkake (Norwegian meatloaf) is was good
DD15 had the pork shank and loved it. So tender it fell off the bone.
DS11 had the kids pizza (would've been fine except we paid adult price for a kids pizza )

The cold bar had some very good cheese & salads. Dessert was allright, but we were so fed up with our missing server at that point I probably wouldn't have loved anything.

If you're going for the Princesses, you won't be disappointed. As for the food, our biggest disappointment with it was that they've really Americanized it over the years but that may be good for your family.

I dined there last summer with the same worries as you. My daughter had to eat in the Norway castle. I am very picky and was thinking it would be the worst meal of the trip. Imagine my surprise that I walked out of there loving it!

The waitstaff there will work with you. I wanted ravioli with the onion cream sauce but they have mushrooms which I am allergic to. They made me a delicious plate using the cheese ravioli from the children's menu with the onion cream sauce and gave me meatballs. It was so good! A friend also dined with us and she is picky too. She asked for plain grilled chicken breast which they happily obliged. The chicken was wonderful and it was also an option on the children's menu but her portion was very large. Also, the cold bar was really good too.

I had the Traditional Kjottkake which is like meatloaf. It was excellent.
My DH had a venison and lingonberry dish. He loved it and still talks about this being one of the best meals he has ever had, anywhere. I see it is not on the All Ears menu now. Hopefully, they are still making it as we are going back in May. He will be seriously disappointed if it is not there anymore.

We had lunch there and the food was very good. DH loved the lamb, but complained that the portion was too small cause it tasted so good. I have the BBQ and it was very good too. The kids were happy with their choices.

We've eaten there twice for dinner. On both of those trips we also ate at CRT. By surprise, both times my daughter preferred Akershus. ??? Go figure.
The food was good, the wait staff was great, and we had great character experiences. My daughter had the pizza this trip; the last trip she had a hotdog w/ corn. I had some chicken dish with pasta or potatoes. My husband had beef something. Sorry not more specific--can't remember exactly the name. Our food was very good, though. The salad bar they had before the meal was excellent. My husband loved it. The salad bar had shrimp, cold cuts, salad, assorted cheeses and fruits, various pasta and potato salads, etc. Very tasty and fresh. It was a nice change from the typical theme park food or from a typical salad bar buffet. The side dishes w/ the meal came w/ whatever main dish you ordered. You don't choose a main dish and then choose a side; you simply choose a dish that everythings been predetermined (although I'm sure they'd make exchanges). You can look at the allears website to see Akershus' current menu and already have an idea in mind what you might like to order. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the restaurant.

Read long enough on the boards and you will see good and bad reviews about every restaurant on property. People have different tastes and restaurants have bad nights.

Our experience was great for our dinner at Akershus. We found the food to be very good. Three of us had the traditional Kjottkake which as a PP said is just like a meatloaf. It was served with fresh veggies and mashed potatoes. DH said it was the best food he had ever eaten at a character meal. DD6 had the pizza which she enjoyed.

We are going back again this year, DD can't wait!

Agree w/ PP- you'll find lovers and haters of all restaurants! But for us, we loved PSB Dinner! It was REALLY hard to NOT go back this time! Honestly, the only reason we're not is b/c this will be our first time w/ the boys, and they're too young to "get" the princesses. Though I do expect to drag them in there at sometime in the future!!

I had the Kjottkake, and it was SO yummy!!!! It was served w/ mashed potatoes, and honestly, you can't go wrong there! DH had the lamb and really enjoyed it as well. He still talks about it, actually! The appetizer bar was yummy too- I can't think of anything to complain about it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Have a great time w/ your little princess!

I went about 4 months ago for breakfast. I completely agree that it was the experience my daughter had with the princesses that made it worth while. I actually really really disliked the food there. (But who cares, after being on the Deluxe I couldnt eat another bite anyways).

Just an FYI...(Im not sure if someone already mentioned it, I havent read all the posts yet) Cinderella and Prince Charming are not at 1900 for breakfast. Its Pooh and Tigger, Mary Poppins, Alice in W. and Mad Hatter.

I have not eaten at Akershus for dinner. But I agree with the PP that said there are plenty of positive and negative reviews for every restaurant at WDW. Go and decide for yourself. I've read posts from many people that really enjoyed dinner - and since your DD wants to see princesses, I would do it just for that reason.

I've read that the dessert plate at Akershus is to die for!

We went in November only for the princesses, specifically Ariel with feet. We figured if the food was bad, we paid for the experience and if it was good, we'd be pleasently surprised. I did not love my meal, I ordered "safe" and was mad at myself for not being more adventurous. . I had the pasta, would not have it again. The salads and dessert more than made up for it though, very enjoyable. My dh had the salmon and LOVED it, it was his favorite dinner far better then his salmon at Cali Grill and even liked it more than LeCellier (though he did love it there). He was very impressed. The kids meals are kids meals, same old stuff, but my kids loved that salad bar. We were happily surprised and hope you are as well, at the very least you DD will love the experience and yo uwill have the photos as a memory. I still prefer CRT but DH would disagree!!! He would rate Akerhaus as #2 after Chef Mickey's breakfast (half for food and half for tradition...)

I think you may be pleasently surprised!

Hi! I am so glad that you asked about this... I had been meaning to post about our experience and just never got around to it. We did do the meal at Akershus for dinner and most of the members of our party truly enjoyed it!! I was very surprised. We got some cold cuts and they had some really good potato salad on the cold bar, and DH tried a few more things. They had some fruit that my DD ate pretty well. When it came time to order our meal DH got the salmon and he ate every bite of it.. said it was great. I ordered the meatloaf type meal and got cream cheese mashed potatoes with it... it was really good. I did ask that they put the berry sauce on the side as I wasn't sure.. and I really felt the meal went well. The other adult traveling with us my brother who is a young adult ordered off the kids meal the macaroni and beef but they brought him an adult portion of it and he said it was really good. DD ordered the grilled chicken they let her get mashed potatoes as well with her corn.. and she didn't really eat it.. she was too excited about the princesses!! The dessert sampler was very good, but we were stuffed from the food.
We were thrilled with the princesses...Belle was the greeter and passing around the restaurant we had Jasmine, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Ariel!!! They spent a great deal of time with us and DD was over the moon. All in all I would say it was a very positive experience and DH has indicated he would like to go again! I think your DD will really enjoy it... I would highly recommend it!! If you have any more questions.. feel free to ask away!!
