So, I just thought i'd share for anyone that has seen these and wanted one but didn't want to waste money on something like that...or maybe as a warning to those planning on buying one, lol. (for the record, i'm talking about the big clear balloon with a white mickey head balloon inside. i dont know if this would be true of the jack skellington ones or not)

I was in the "don't waste money on something that will pop in an hour" category. I had seen these and loved them, thought they were the coolest balloons i'd ever seen, but just didn't think it was worth it. On our recent trip, I was bummed on our last night about having to leave, so Dh snuck off and bought me one of these to cheer me up! Well...that was around 7 PM on Sunday the 21st.

It is now Tuesday the 30th, and this thing is STILL bobbing around my spare room. It still lights up, and has only just started to deflate! I'm amazed, personally. I've never had a balloon hold up like this, and i'm hoping it will just deflate all the way on it's own so I can keep it as another reminder of a wonderful trip.

I feel we got our money's worth, lol. But, if you wanted to get it (or your kid did) just to have for the day, you may want to rethink it. I had to find a way to get this thing home (and this is a BIG balloon too) and then somewhere to put it to keep the dog from getting at it. Also, there is a switch at the bottom so you can turn off the light if you need to, which came in handy in the car at night, lol.

My DD begged for one the entire trip and I kept saying no for all the reasons you listed above. Guess I'll have to give in next time. How much do they cost?

My DD9 has been coveting one of these balloons the last few times we've been to the parks (well, I think we didn't see the light-up variety until this last trip), but I also always explain that it will be hard to carry all day (nobody wants to sit out of a ride to babysit a balloon), deal with in the car, etc. She's always understanding about it, but I know she'd really love to just finally get one for once.

So, I have plans to let her get one on our next trip in September. I'm going to let her get it on our first day as we're leaving for the day, so that she can just have it at the hotel. We'll be there for 6 days, so hopefully it will be deflated by then, and easy to pack up. Thanks for the info!

If you get one and you're driving home, PLEASE turn it off or hide it somewhere! I was driving home behind someone who had one in their car for like 45 minutes and they're super distracting... I kept watching it change colors instead of watching the road :lmao:

Oh yes, we caved for our DDs last year. Shoved them in the car for the drive home and they lasted forever!! I think one was 20 something days and the other one lasted for almost 2 months!!! I was completely amazed. :)

That's a long time! I'll be sure to leave space in the back of our van for her balloon on the way home. She's going to be thrilled if it lasts long enough to play with at home.

They do last quite awhile. I usually cover balloons with a lightweight blanket, towel, or whatever is handy to keep them from blocking my view whlie driving.

The last time I bought a balloon at Disneyland it was about 10 years ago but I remember it lasted for at least 3 months. I was totally shocked. It's good to know there are still quality balloons and that Disney hasn't cut the corners on their balloons (unlike so many other merchandising items).

WoW! I am surprised they last so long! DD7 has wanted one the last few times we have been, tomorrow may be her lucky day now LOL... Thanks for the tip!! :lovestruc

FYI, you cant take these balloons on a plane, probably pretty obvious but just wanted to make sure the info was out there so no little kids are disappointed at the airport!

:-)

Anyone starting their trip on 12/29 I will prob cave and let my DS6 get one on our 1st day (25th) but if they last that long will not be able to take it back to Montana with us...would be happy to pass it along to a good home....

we bought one for our darling 3 year old as that is what she wanted to spend her chore money on. i almost died when they said they were $12. but alas...thats what she wanted and she earned her money. we bought it on wednesday night and we left today and it was still full. we told her she couldnt birng it on the plane....and she was ok with giving it to someone else to enjoy. so while we were leaving the hotel we found a little girl, asked her parents if she could have it and they said yes....so she got it! i was so proud of my little one.

I thought I read somewhere that you can get a deflated one to replace that one if you can not take the filled one with you.. Anyone else remember seeing that?

And on a side note, those babies are vsible for a long, long time. We were in line for Space Mountain and saw a stray heading to the Lost Balloon Room in heaven, and watched it float away for a good 15 minutes! Even when it was only a speck, you could still see the lights! We were amazed!
