those little envelopes

I've looked all over this forum, including under the faqs, but I can't find out what those little icons mean that are in the far left column.

Some are orange envelopes, some are closed envelopes with little lines above them, some are closed envelopes without the lines and some are open envelopes....

Enlighten me?

Hey! Thanks you guys! That's one of those questions I didn't know I needed to ask!! I just thought they were decorations!! (If you haven't figured it out yet, I am a computer Dummy!! Those books they write are for me... Windows for Dummies, etc.)
