I'm nervous about missing out on the good flights by waiting but also worried about booking and missing a great deal.....too much time on my hands! LOL.

I can get NWA flight nonstop for $92 after taxes & fees for IND-MCO.
I can get Airtran nonstop $95 after taxes & fees for MCO-IND.
Basically $187 each RT. My target is <$150 RT each [closer to $100 total the better ;) ].

Both are good times too. We have 3 small children [8,6,5] so I have to factor that into the equation.

Last time we were 4 months out when I booked the trip so I booked air...it was $165 total each RoundTrip....it was just over 1 year ago.

Any IND travelers who've gotten great deals AFTER FEES?? I saw several advertised rates that boasted $4x but after fees, etc. they were over $100 ONE-WAY.

so I go to cheapflights...they show best deals [traveling mid march]...

Wow ... $92 RT + Fees....coool......

oh wait...i'll get there 7 hours later [it's a 2.5 hour direct flight]....ok that's fine...

oh nice...I leave to come home at 5:20 AM...hello...

but wait....AFTER FEES/TAX ....it's $186....

What???

Trish

I booked our flights (departing IND on 6/16 and departing MCO on 6/27) the first day that SWA came out with their extended schedule (2/8/07). I think I booked within an hour of the schedule release. The cheapest NS flight down was sold out, so I had to book a connecting flight (which I really didn't like). I did get a NS flight home. I bought 4 tickets and the price was $147.70/person, so $590.80 for all of us. I was pretty pleased with the price. I am hoping that somehow 4 seats will open up on the NS IND-MCO flight, but if not we can deal with it. I don't have small children (it will be me, DH, DS (17) and DS's friend (also 17)), so NS isn't critical, although I have been very spoiled and haven't flown anything but NS to WDW for ~ 10 years.

We traveled Jan 1-8 this year. Paid $956 for 4 RT NS tickets on SW to MCO. Much higher than we had paid in the past. Booked first day available last year, not sure what the exact date was. I would rather have the flight I want than worry about saving a few dollars by waiting for lower prices. I don't see SW or any airline returning to the low fares we enjoyed in the past. JMO

TnTWalter when are flying to WDW? I got a great fare on NWA for my Jan. 28 to Feb. 2 IND to MCO flight of $117 r/t with all fees and taxes included. I booked the air fare on Dec. 14. I have averaged flying from IND to MCO 3 times a year since 1992. I always think anything under $200 isn't a bad fare. The lowest I have seen was $88 r/t on SWA during Aug., 2005. A friend of mine and his family got that low rate. As you know the time of year will make a real difference. I went to WDW 12/6 to 12/13, 2006 and paid something like $165 for the ticket.

I see you are going in October also. I just booked our family of four out of Indy in Airtran about 2 weeks ago. Airtran seems to have the best prices, and I didn't feel like waiting for Southwest to release their dates. Anyway, I got 4 RT tickets from IND-MCO for a total of $834 with all taxes and fees(about $208 per person). I was hoping to pay a little less, but seems like all fares keep doing is going higher!!! :headache:

Last trip [Jan 2-7 2006] was $165 each total. I booked 4 months in advance...I think it was Airtran. It was nonstop.

GARY...I would love the $117 R/T price...perfect...but wow..you were a little over a month out when you booked...that's BRAVE!!

Trish

I booked our flight on 1/23/07. We are leaving Indy on 4/27 and coming back on 5/4 (I found it was cheaper to fly from Fri to Fri, instead of Sat. to Sat). Both flights are non-stop and the price per ticket (with taxes and fees) was $117.30 for the roundtrip flights through NWA. I think we got pretty lucky and hurry and booked it quickly. Total for 4 people $469.20. :cool1: :cool2:

Trish:

The post just above, also got the NWA $117 fare from IND to MCO. I was at WDW Dec. 6-13 and when I got back, checked the fare for my trip 1/28-2/2 and saw the great rate and booked it. Before I left, the cost was almost $200, but I could see that the plane still hadn't sold very many seats. You can see what seats are sold on the NWA site 90 days from departure. When the low price came out the seats went fast and the price climbed almost
daily. If the seats had sold sooner, I would have jumped in then. Good luck.

until 3-4 months out....just not a good gambler...it makes me nervous...what if they're $250 each or sold out...eek...I will probably wait until 6 months out and then start obsessing...I think I'm too far out to worry now.

I purchased a couple weeks ago, a direct flight from Indy to Orlando for the 5 of us for 966.00.

Trish:

Buy your tickets when you feel comfortable with the fare and don't look back. I just checked Air Tran's site and for 10/23-10/28 you can fly non-stop from IND to MCO for $193.30 r/t. They(Air Tran) have 2 or 3 n/s flights each day from IND and MCO. NWA at this time, is much more expensive which is typical for this far from your trip. As you know, SWA hasn't opened up those dates.

This air fare situation can drive you nuts, so get your tickets when you feel like it's a fair price and try to stop worrying.

Good luck.

Are your dates set in stone?? I always try to be flexible on my dates and do a 30 day search on the matrix ITA software. I do this almost every day for about 2 weeks to get an idea of what everyone is offering. When I'm ready I just go for it. If you spot a lower price later you can always call and ask for the credit.

I'm thinking of making a 3 night trip in May with some credit from NW, they have a couple of N/S flights for $137.00 including taxes.

Good luck on your decision

In the past I paid about $180.00 RT ( Sept. 2004)
and something like $87.00 RT ( Oct. 2005)

sounds like I just need to be patient...I'm a little early in the game I guess...
BUT it also sounds like at most I'll save $300...not sure if it's worth that for the peace of mind...I'll debate with DH.

Thanks all....

Please feel free to keep posting...
primarily interested if you've gotten GREAT deals [<$150] and nonstop flights...how many days out did you book and what airline?

Trish

prices closer to time??
I'm figuring 4/1/07 will start opening up more slots...this waiting game is hard work.

I've been following dings, airtran & other sale fares and they seem to be closer to 2-4 months...yikes.
