Those darned wet bathing suits

For 5 cruises, I did the usual. I washed out the bathing suits in the sink, rolled them in a towel to get as much moisture out as I could, and hung them up. No matter what, they never seemed to dry.

On cruise 6, I got smart. I tossed them in the washing machine, picked "bright colors" (which is cold water), and let them go.

The final spin of the washer made a huge difference. The suits were still damp, but they dried in no time when I hung them in the room.

No more smelly, wet bathings suits for me to unpack. :teeth:

Great post!
Thanks!

That's a great idea, but when I tried to use the laundry room after our day at CC, they were all full.

I started taking zip lock bags and putting the wet suits and water shoes in them, and as soon as we get home they are the first things to go in the wash.

Here's my trick - roll them up in a towel, put the towel on the floor and jump on it until you're too tired to jump anymore. I have found that this really gets that excess water out!! Sorry, neighbors downstairs!!

I packed a spring-rod... I was thinking that it would fit across our balcony at 48" deep (measurement from Passporter....), but our balcony was deeper than that!!! 50-something inches from window to railing plexiglass.

So, I just made the spring rod as small as possible, and stuck it across the window jamb on one side of our balcony. A tight fit. But was great for hanging up our suits! Only one suit made of a heavier, thicker, knit material was still very slightly damp the next day. What would be ideal would be a couple of small springrods to hang there.

For staterooms without a verandah, a larger spring-rod would be good for in the bath, without using that pull-string.

I am thinking that the magnetic curtain rods that attach themselves to steel doors would work as well. I understand even the balcony walls are metal. I have those on my front door, and it strikes me as an easy way to hang things to dry!

We will be first time cruisers in January. If I brought clothesline along would there be a way to tie it up on the verandah?

There is a clothesline in your shower - I didn't even realize it - My husband discovered it -

Please don't. this has been discussed a few times, and IMO,
a) you take the chance of your clothes blowing away-
b) if everyone started doing that, it would look like a floating
Beverly Hillbillies ship, all we'd need is Granny ontop of the Mickey stack. Like I said, just my opinion, but please don't.

I'm not a fan of putting the suits outside. First, I'm concerned that they'll blow away, and second, I don't want to look at them all over everything.

My problem has been that they simply will not dry in the room, especially when using the clothesline in the shower.

I finally found a solution that seems to work, and that's throwing them in the washer so that they're wrung out very well.

Grumpy's Mom, was that you????????:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I put in a suggestion once that they add those 'bathsuite spinners' in the laundry rooms like they have at some gyms. We have one at the university my family goes to for swimming, and they really get out a lot of water. Only takes about 30 seconds per suit. Sure would be nice if they would put a couple of these in each of the laundry rooms.

Bakaroma, No, on our verandah I did not see an easy way to tie up a clothesline... And, as mentioned... Don't want the Magic and the Wonder to be the floating laundry ship!!!!

( Beverly Hillbillies LOL!!!!! )

Try the spring-rod.... magnetic rod.... magnetic hook-hangers like for your fridge.... large suction hooks.... All of these can be used discreetly on your verandah, on the side walls or windows.... your things will not blow away. And, they won't block that view that you are getting that verandah for!!!! :D

PS: in a small stateroom, with TINY bathrooms... I appreciated the chance to hang our suits out on that little spring-rod!

That is also the reason we liked our over the door shoe hanger. We hung it NOT on the bathroom door, but in the closet right there across from the bathrooms. It held EVERYTHING, and just slide that closet shut, the room was neat and tidy!
