It is looking very much like this Sunday maybe your last day to ride King Kong forever. Two things will happen, either kong will reopen for Thanksgiving, or it will be gone forever. This rumor I have posted below is from screamscape.com, and says Fieval may get the ax too. Also they said that maybe the Kong building will be replaced by an indoor Roller Coaster. But what type of coaster whould you theme to a movie done in New York? I say just tear out that stupid slow Rossavelt tram and make a High Speed ride through the streets of New York with Kong staying put. Or maybe bring the Ghostbusters back into action with some sort of attraction in New York. Any other ideas.

Park News & Rumors - (9/25/2001) It seems that Kong may be back on the chopping block. Kong will close for Halloween Horror Nights on Sept. 30th and the word from the park is that it will stay closed until at least the holiday season. However... there are a few others out there reporting that the building may be gutted for a new attraction (indoor coaster). With the state of things, this project could easily go either way, so we’ll just wait and see and not speculate at this time. We’ve also been infomed that Fieval’s Waterslide will also close on 9/30, the Universal Express system has been discontinued until further notice as of this week. Park hours are changing to 9am-6pm daily with a few days closing earlier for HHN and Early Opening days are also discontinued. We’ve also heard that attractions furthest away from the park entrance will stagger their opening times to open an hour or so later than the rest of the park.

Las Vegas has a NYC themed roller coaster where the trains are like taxis. It doesn't sound any different than how real NYC taxicab drivers drive. :)

What I think would fit in perfectly, is some sort of "fast and Furious" type rollercoaster. The trains would be short but fast. They would look somewhat like the imports in the movie. And ofcourse there would have to be huge H pipes on the back of each train. Also Universal could incorporate new technology (kinda) by having the trains have burst of speed with the magnetic technology. This would represent the NOS effect seen so many times throughout the film. Hey even better, have two seperate tracks and have the cars race, each boost of speed would be given to the loudest screamers. That way the ride is always a real race throughout a big city. wow. Well I let my imagination take me a little far, but just imagine how many more teens would like to come to USF again.
:jester:

Feel free to add ideas for suggestion

Just a guess - Mummy dark ride in place of Kong.
If there's room behind MIB / BTTF, maybe a classic wood coaster or flying dutchman(?). Heck, any kick-butt coaster would be nice. Would it need a movie tie-in?
Agree that USF does need more of a draw to further balance the bigger crowds to come.

hey, if they took out Kong and put in a new ride it would be okay with me. I know it is a classic but despite that whenever I go I always see a bunch of people getting off disappointed with the ride. I think it would be even more of a classic if they took it out a long time ago. We'd say "Hey remember that Kong ride? What a classic ride that was." You can liken it to a popular band. Eventually the band goes out of style and everybody hates them, but if they had quit while they were on top people would remember them as they were.

and feivels water slide getting the axe? It sounded to me like they were just closing it for a while.

Anyway I think a ghostbusters attraction woul be cool, I liked the show they used to have, and they could do so much with that now. Something tells me that isn't likely to happen though. Oh well. If they put in an indoor coaster they'd have to try pretty hard to make it not like the Rockn Roller Coaster at MGM especiallyt if they theme it with car style trains and what not. Maybe they will keep the Kong theme, that sounds like a pretty safe move, you still get Kong but you get a better ride. or... Hmm New York and it has to be from a movie... I know why dont they theme an indoor coaster to a Woody Allen movie, that would be exciting. :)

BTW Afroman has a pretty good idea having LIM launching racer, but Fast and Furious was a really bad movie (no offense to those who liked it) and it would hardly be worthy of replacing such a Universal classic and cultural icon as King Kong.

Uh eets-

Kong was an RKO movie originally-the 1976 remake was Universal's.

Kong will reopen. Feivel's slide and Curious George will be open on weekends only.
