UGH. first my dryer broke. I had it repaired and bam, it breaks again.

today i go to pull into the garage and the door wont open. The door opener died.

okay, it could be much worse but i feel like crying anyway.

Ours has started off crappy too.

Had to replace the alternator in DD's car- $350

Garbage disposal and hot water heater went out at the same time-- $2000

Had to take DD to urgent care last night for stitches in her forehead. Didn't get home til 2am. She has 2 exams today and I have to work.

Another here with a cruddy start:

dh's salary decreased 20%
lost a big client at my job
DS started new school and having a tough time making friends.

Yep. We had such an awful 2010, I was hoping for better new year but so far:

I rolled and totalled my minivan two weeks ago.
My new DIL just rolled and totalled the car she had for 12 hours on Tuesday.
I had to put my senior beagle to sleep on Wednesday after he fell down basement stairs and severely injured himself.

My Son in law will deploy soon for the first time.

Oy.

Me, me!! I can Play on this thread too!!

NYE- 4 year old turns a stool over on his foot. It his his big toe, splitting it open just below the nail. It bleeds profusely, he can't walk for several days, toenail is falling off- gross gross gross. And so painful for my little guy!

Jan 4th- visiting relatives, 4 year old (again!) is playing hide and seek in the basement, trips over his own feet smacks his mouth into an open door of an entertainment unit, breaking a tooth in half. He doesn't even tell me, I just see the gap in his mouth later!:scared1:

Jan 5th- 11 am, dentist says $700 to do mini root canal and rebuild tooth. 3pm, DH gets laid off.:scared1::eek::mad::sad2:

Jan 7th- let dogs out, one dog comes back in lame. Take to vet, he's torn his ACL, completely. $3,000 surgery or put pooch on 3 month crate rest. Guess which we picked?:upsidedow

Jan 9th- baby gets ear infection and eardrum ruptures later. Nothing serious, she's just miserable.

Jan 12- baby is spiking high fevers again, probably another ear infection.

Now, who wants to come have fun at my house?!?!:dance3:popcorn:::cool1:

Jan 3 - Car completely dies. It was not the battery but the whole wiring of the car. $1800:eek:a week after Christmas when we've spent all we can spend

Jan 7 - Minor car crash. There is no way anyone can say it's my fault. I was stopped at a red light waiting for the light to change. A guy rear ended me from the back:headache:

I work as a supply, and no one is taking time off because it's January and staff want to save their sick days since the year just began, therefore no income for me yet

Today - DS 12 tells me he's been having sharp pains in his heart, and should he have told me weeks ago:scared1:

I am really trying to stay positive and not let this crappy start dictate the rest of the year

Yeah, Im over 2011 and it hasn't even gotten started good. I haven't had a catastrophe yet but I am 1000 miles away from my home, family, and friends. I am in dark, cold and grey VA. I don't know anyone and I cannot find a job!! Gosh, I really hope something happens soon.

Hugs to all of you. :grouphug:

oh, me too!

december 30th: mom has yet another nervous breakdown, only this time, she's in birmingham, 75 miles away, and a friend of mine who lives there has to track mom down via cell phone and takes her to her house to stay the night, then brings her home to me the next day.

january 3rd: DMIL goes to the dr., who promptly sends her straight to the hospital, fearing she's about to have a heart attack because her BP is so high. she spends 5 days in the hospital, with NO health insurance (DFIL {the D does NOT stand for dear at this point} says they were holding out for medicare at 62-yeah, GOOD IDEA! NOT!) DMIL is diagnosed with diabetes, and is a total nervous wreck trying to learn how to deal with it.

since december 14th, DH (who is, btw, an excellent mechanic) has been trying to fix my car. it was the intake manifold gasket, which he fixed, but now he thinks the spark plugs are fouled, because the car is getting horrible gas mileage! one thirty mile round trip to town costs me 1/4 tank of gas!

now my mom, who has been seeing a counselor, is pitching a fit to get her car back...we've told her she needs to wait to drive until she sees her orthopedic dr. on monday, because she's having severe pain in her left shoulder (previously operated on) and her ROM is very limited. of course, i can't refuse to give her the car back if dr. clears her, unless i file paperwork to have her declared incompetent, which i can't afford to hire an attorney for.

oh, and the "winter storm", which turned out to be nothing but a 4 inch thick sheet of ice, has kept my daughter out of school an entire week, which will probably need to be made up during spring break (DH has already taken the week off so we could go somewhere) and DH missed 1 1/2 days of work, so his paycheck will be 14 hours short. JUST what we needed, what with all of his mom's medical expenses and my mom's counselor fees! if i never see snow (really ice) again, it'll be too soon!

I agree this year sucks. On New Years Eve someone I know lost her baby that was due mid Feb. My niece lost her Grandma on New Years day from Cancer, and my childhood best friend's Dad pass away from a heart attack. And my sister was completely unsmypathic about it just because she is getting married.

This year needs to get better and quick!

as ours isn't going well either

first hubby's car developed an exhaust leak..will cost $300 to fix

Earlier in the week I caught the flu, now hubby has it and to top off the week~~

the last few days we have had a skating rink instead of a driveway..thought it was runoff from the neighbor up on the hill behind us..today we find out we apparently have a leak in a water pipe in our almost frozen back yard..only 'good' thing, is that our water meter is inside the basement..so they can't charge us for all the water that's leaked/is leaking..guy who works for the city water dept (and works on the side as a plumber) is coming tomorrow to see if he can find the leak and fix it..even temporarily till spring..no way do we have the $ right now to have someone come in with a backhoe and replace the entire line to the tune of about $1200!!

If 2011 is going to be like this the whole year, I am climbing into bed, pulling the covers over my head and not coming out till next year!

Good luck to all of you, hope your troubles get fixed fast and you don't have any more!

I'm sorry to read about everyone's deflated new year. Ours deflated too.

The same issues we had at the end of 2010 are lingering in 2011. I sure hope they get resolved soon.

My biggest hope is the unpleasant stuff will all be at the beginning of this year and the rest of the year will be smooth sailing. :boat: :sail:

Let the rest of the year be better for all of us! :)

Dh lost his job last Friday. So yes 2011 sucks so far. Waiting for that window to open.

Wow, a thread I really feel at home in!!

Since Jan. 1--my Mom got pneumonia and is having a heckuva time getting over it; my cat was diagnosed with diabetes and I have to inject him twice a day with insulin; my other cat was just diagnosed with severe ear infections; my car had 2 flat tires; and today my hamster died.

I'll play! I got medically retired from the guard in Nov so I'm short almost $400 a month. Dh works construction and his hours are cut from lack of work and weather. Just when they get 4 new contracts and he should be working overtime, the storm hits! He was home Mon and Tues, went in Wed for a few hours just to clear snow/ice off the site, and almost wrecked his truck on the ice. The washer quit, it's only 4 years old. Repairman comes today, makes repairs, costs me $100. He leaves, oldest ds does a load of laundry. I come home from work, after being snow bound with kids all week I had to go in half day for teacher workday, throw in 2nd load. Washer quits working. Call repairman, try a few things over the phone, he says it's the bearings. Bearings will cost over $500 wholesale! He says it's cheaper to buy new washer! Washers should not die after only 4 years! I'm calling Whirlpool Mon. and will probably be off to Lowe's, charge card in hand, to replace the washer. Oh yeah, oldest dd's were 12 on the 3rd. Put off birthday presents until I got paid today. Guess who's getting a new washer for their birthday! They are NOT amused lol.
