This whole "clique" thing - a vent - be warned!

KristaTX, thank you so much for explaining how to subscribe without posting.

You're welcome. Glad to know that I at least helped one person .

And PoohandWendy is right - Navigation is the main issue. No, it's not a horrible, terrible, awful inconvenience to have to dig down into the CB to look for threads, or to bump one's own threads back up so people will see them. But some people (not me :teeth: ) are too shy to do that, and they eventually quit posting questions and threads after they get lost in the shuffle enough times. I know people who have done so.

If something as simple as a sub-forum could possiblymake the CB even better and more navigable/user friendly, then why are some people here so adamantly opposed to just the mere discussion of a few changes? What's the harm in discussing and bringing up a few ideas - either for or against whatever ideas are being tossed about? Even 2 of the webmasters have indicated that they are considering making some changes in the future which will lead to the CB/DIS becoming even a better place than it already is.

Some people just seem to want to argue for argument's sake :confused3.

Since we're already off topic, regarding navigation.... If I click "New Posts", what does it show me? New, since when? Since my last visit? I hope not posts I haven't clicked because that would be overwhelming. New in the last hour? I don't get it.

so then what would the sub board be and what would the CB be? and who whould constitute what becomes hj and what is.....?
IMO, a sub board should be made for exchanges, games and group hang outs (I don't really like calling them cliques because I think they are not intended to be malevolent, just a fun place for like minds). The hijacking issue is a separate one and I think the mods should just step in and ask if those involved want it moved to the sub board or to get it back on topic...whatever works the best. JMO.

It lists the posts in chronological order from all the boards - in order of when it was last posted on -

I love this b/c I can do a quick scan of all the boards and see what is going on everywhere!

I might not be explaining myself very well - if you click on it - you will see what I mean

We can go around and around and around about all this, but ultimately is is up to the Webmasters. This isn't the first time we have hashed this out, it probably won't be the last. I do know some people have had their feelings hurt and are afraid to post on thread that their "friends" post on because some people will automatically think that a hijacking is taking place.

Personally, I don't feel like I can even crack some jokes with fear that others will be mad that I took a thread off topic.

It's pretty sad that it's coming to that. :guilty:

I think that if there was a sub board, things would run more smoothly and people would be less likely to have a problem with things going off topic...I think the obvious hijackings (in addition to all of the perpetual threads) are what most people find annoying.

And you are right, it is definitely up to the webmasters, but they cannot know what people want unless the issues are mentioned...especially repeatedly.

And as far as cracking jokes...I will continue to when the mood hits. I guess they will just ban me if I go overboard. :teeth:

Wow! Looks like I missed some DIS drama this holiday weekend.

My two cents FWIW as someone who has posted here pretty much since the DIS started--

It's no wonder that there are complaints about thread hijacking. It's been an obvious problem here recently, and sooner or later, it had to be addressed.

For years now, there have been various "club" threads, e.g., the Ya-Ya's, the Swan/Dolphin Cheerleaders, the EWP group, etc. Clubs or cliques or whatever you want to call them have existed here peacefully for years.

But in recent months, one particular "club" or group have been hijacking threads. And that is not cool. It's poor netiquette.

If these people stayed on their own threads, nobody would have a problem with them. Any personal interactions I've had with the people I'm talking about have been quite pleasant so I'm not meaning this post to insult anybody involved.

It needs to be said--the jig is up, people. You can deny it all you want or try to say if you post somewhere and your friends join in, you're blamed for an innocent hijack. That's not what people are riled up about.

Honestly, if you want to have your club and participate in the CB, quit the hijacking. Doing it repeatedly is just plain bad manners.

I need a favor here...

I'm seeing all the comments about hijacked threads, and it sounds like there's a sense that the problem is getting a lot worse lately.

Where is this happening? If it's repeatedly by the same people, who? (Please PM me if you can clue me in- no need to heat things up by publicly hashing it out.)

I haven't seen much hijacking recently, and we haven't been getting reports about it.

If there's a problem on a thread- hijacking, fighting, profanity, etc.- please report it to the moderators right away by using the
report.gif
button. Explain the problem briefly in the text box that pops up, and a link to the problem post will be sent to the email box of every moderator of that forum. We do not read every post or every thread on the forums; if you don't report it, it's unlikely that we know about it.

Please, please, PLEASE don't quote the problem post later in the thread. That increases the effort for cleaning up the problem, and increases the chance that we'd need to lock the entire thread. If you don't quote or escalate the problem by striking back, we can generally just delete the problem post and all is well.

Please don't post anything here about the hijackers, but I'd appreciate hearing the explanations in PM. Thanks! :)

I don't see the problem with having to look back a page or 2 or 3 to find all the new posts. but some apparently don't want to do that...so here's my suggestion:
a sub forum for each of the following topics on the cb:

1) groups
2)games
3) exchanges
4) hijackings
5) current events (you know when 12 people post the same cnn news story)
6) crocs
7) vents
8) posting as an alias
9) tell me about...(places, food, restaurants...non disney)
10) reality tv
11) polls on nothing in particular
12) republicans
13) democrats
14) born again folks
15) atheists
16) home school
17) sahm
18) working moms
19) breast feeding
20) virtual drinking/ eating/ partying

I'm sure there are several more we could do and when all those are set up the CB will be free of all the clutter....and everything else.

just my .02!

LOL, or we could just combine ALL of the boards so no one feels like they are missing anything. For example, why are the theme park, dining and resort boards separated? Why not just have one big Trip Planning board?

I am dissapointed. No one even commented on the fact that Mark met Jimmy Carter.

Wow. That is so cool.

Tara, now it is my turn to say you rock! :rotfl:

As much as I think it would be a big win for everybody if the group/clique threads were in one place (wouldn't it be easier for those people to find their threads if that were the case?) I am able to skip them as things currently stand.

The only problem is being caught in the middle of a group hijack and looking silly as the only one still posting on topic. I'm now able to recognizie them and stay away from those as well.

Maybe the OP of a particular thread should PM the people they think are hijacking their thread and ask them to stop. If they don't, then tell a Mod.

I think people who are talking about jealousy are really not getting what is being said. I am sure there is a small minority of people who just don't like the cliques because they are jealous. But, there is also a small minority of the 'clique' people who are focusing on that too "You are just jealous of us".

No one seems to be listening to what the majority of the people who have a problem with this are saying....it's NOT the cliques, it IS the hijacking, it IS the threads taking up space and bumping other threads back. Those issues have nothing to do with popularity or jealousy. Most people just do not care that there are cliques, only how they are affecting the way the board runs.

That idea seems to be ignored because everyone wants to talk about jealousy and friendships. We (most of us) GET friendships and we are not jealous, k? (that was not meant at you gg, just a general statement)

I totally get it p&w. :)

And I know you weren't throwing rocks at me. ;)

I think you and I are in complete agreement really. Hijacking is the thing that drives people batty.

And yes, some clique people do have a "you're just jealous of us" mentality - but I'd say they're few and far between - thankfully. :)

It's gotten to the point where I won't even look at a thread that's more than a page or two long because chances are it's long because it was hijacked :confused3 .

Same here. Heck, I'm shocked that I made it to your post, which is #26!

When they're this long, they've usually either turned into fights, or they've been highjacked.

It's gotten to where I read the first page, then skip to the last page. If the two topics don't match, I'm outta there.

The only thing that'll make me skip a thread faster than the above, is the opening post being one LONG paragraph. My brain just won't let me go there. :badpc:

Ok, I have to admit that I have no idea what the highjack drama is about. I read a lot of threads, but I also skip a lot of threads. I am not sure what people mean by highjack. Maybe I just never see those threads.

Although one person said when the topic of the first page and last page do not match... well that would be every thread longer than 2 or 3 pages then because the discussion always evolves. Well maybe not always, but often. I don't see that as a highjack, just a natural progression of ideas.

I was thinking it was a group of people who jump in, ignore everyone else, and the topic... am I close?

Exactly. The DIS used to be one big board in the good old days, we could go back to that. ;)
