What would happen if we could not get out of Buffalo for a few days would your room get held? Would they extend your stay or refund your money for what you paid for, or neither? Just pondering these details as I am watching the weather alert for Buffalo... Anyone have experience in this, what would they do :confused3

Hoping this does not happen again btw just thinking.. :goodvibes

I dunno, but vacation insurance should save you?

I'll let you know what happens!

I'm scheduled to fly out of Buffalo next Friday Night! :confused3

If worse comes to worse, I'll drive myself down there to catch the member cruise!LOL

Already have a navigator lined up, just in case! :lmao: :lmao:

Actually, I have some friends that were booked to fly out today(fri) on Southwest, the flight was cancelled when they got there this afternoon. So they tried to get a hotel but there was nothing available anywhere, so they came back home. They were told to try and fly stand-by tomorrow morning starting at 6:30 and that they couldn't be rescheduled until Sunday morning for a flight if they couldn't find room on stand-by.

They came home with their daughter crying and broken hearted. They ended up finding a flight on JetBlue tomorrow morning on Jet Blue for 119.00 each which isn't great but worth it to them to not miss two days of their vacation.

When they called WDW, disney offered to extend the vacation by a day for them, they aren't able to do it....not sure if WDW will do anything else for them. They just want to get there and start their vacation and aren't going to worry about anything else.

This storm is one reason why my family & I will never fly out of Buffalo. I know something like that could happen in Toronto, which I hope never does happen in the future. However if it did, at least we could get home faster then driving the 2 hours from Buffalo.

I echo this sentiment...however, I would preface it by saying...in the winter...and I wouldn't have even considered October or even November as being in danger of snow cancellations. I've never flown out of Buffalo but I'd be willing to in the summer and fall. This makes me think twice about the fall though. LOL

As long as I can remember, Buffalo has always gotten more snow than Toronto. And driving on the QEW to the Niagara region has always been adventurous....if it's lightly snowing in the stretch between Mississauga to Hamilton, it's a raging blizzard in St. Catharines. LOL At least, that's what happened to us one time on our way to Niagara Falls.

We fly out from Buffalo in less than 2 weeks and we WILL make it to the airport..........pleaaase send us a sprinkling of pixie dust! :wizard:

I figure that if our going to fly out in the winter they are experts at it. We always get a hotel the night before and get travel insurance. I being the person I am like to be extremly early to places and watch the weather like a hawk if Im going somewhere. Its not like they are in states of emergency everytime there is snow. I myself will continue to fly from Buffalo in the winter..
Is it Febuary yet?

We fly out on the 25th and yes, our fingers will be crossed!

Just to add something. The Rochester NY airport is approx 60 miles from Buffalo. We do not seem to get as much snow as Buffalo, in fact this storm we only got a dusting and it melted away in hours. If you are stuck with a snowed in flight from Buffalo consider flying into or out of Rochester if the airline will allow it. I had booked a flight from Buffalo a few years ago because it was so much cheaper than Rochester. I ended up having to fly into Rochester because Buffalo was snowed in. I went up to the desk in Atlanta and asked if there was any chance to change my flight to Rochester instead of Buffalo and they gladly did it for me...no extra cost as Buffalo was not an option. This will work of course only if you do not have a car waiting for you at the other airport. Just wanted to add this info in case it may help someone......

SaraMc you sound just like us.......I really trust Buffalo to keep the snow cleared and we always take a hotel the night before and always show up at the airport with plenty of time to spare! :thumbsup2

When we flew into Buffalo from Orlando this past Feb we landed during a severe snow squall! It was awful out and when we finally got to our car we couldn't see our hands in front of our faces it was so bad and then to make things worse one of our wipers were frozen and stopped working so there we were trying to find our way back to the Peace Bridge (and duty free :goodvibes )with one wiper, but we made it and as soon as we entered Canada it was calm and dry! Gotta love the lake effect stuff!
