I heard on ad on the radio today to hurry and sign up your child (6 or over) for an audition for playhouse disney.Only the first 200 callers would be accepted. Being suspiscious I googled the company (John Robert Powers) and there were many posts calling it a scam. The company actually sells $1000"s worth of acting lessons and that there actually is no actual disney audition.

I would think if this is shady that disney would put a stop to the use of their namein this way.

Anyone else heard of this?

I also called back 6 hours later and they were still taking names...so guess I didn't have to hurry after all:)

JR Powers is notorious for their bait and switch advertising. They simply offer acting and auditioning classes and will give you child the opportunity to be seen by agents accepting new clients for representation. (you can get the same thing for far cheaper at other "acting/modeling" schools, or can submit your child directly to an agency). Both my children took acting classes for fun at a local acting/modeling school and both were signed by Talent Agencies while they were taking classes (WAY cheaper than what JRP was offering). It is shady and JRP is doing this all over the country.

From the ads I have heard for similar deals, they say that you/your child could end up working for one of the companies/shows mentioned. They will take on anyone, and basically just list clients that they have placed people with in the past. As the saying goes, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

Here is how most of those things play out.

"...And all we need from you is a portfolio of pictures in the following poses."

"You don't have them well for $$$ we can arange to have those taken for you."

"Now all we need is a three minute video of your child doing Henry the VIII, or Macbeth."

"Don't have that either, well for only $$$ we can arrange that for you"

"Well we have some classes your child should take and it will only be $$$ more"

Just remember, if it sounds to good to be true, It probally is.
