This question seems silly...

But I wanna ask it. I keep getting a different answer everywhere.
I was just at the ortho a week ago and they told me my next appointment I'm getting my impressions done for my retainers and I was almost done. They never said that thre braces would come off during that appointment, or the one after.
So, I'm wondering if I will be getting them off then, or if I'll have another appointment later to get them off.
I mean it seems like it'd be weird for them to take impressions with my braces on, and doesn't make sense to me.. but I don't really know.
But it also seems like if I were getting them off, they'd tell me. I don't think they'd let me go however long it takes to get a retainer made without anything supporting my teeth..

So the question for those who have had braces: When you did your impressions for your retainers, was it before or after you got your braces taken off?

I've had braces for almost 7 years.
3 Surgreys, and 3 retainers, and a palet expander.
They wouldnt do impressions with braces on. So you will get them off then do the impressions. LUCKY YOU!
I just went today and they told me that i need to have one more surgrey which is scheduled for June 2. After that i count down. I will have 5 more appointments from that date. I'm so exited. They will be off before my junior year!!!

They took my impression for the retainer right after my braces were taken off (the day of). Is the appointment for just the half hour tho? Or a full hour?

If it's the full hour, then they're probably taking them off. Congrats for reaching the end! I know braces can be a major pain in the rear.

I did impressions for my retainer near the end of the removal of my braces. I had that appointment, then the next one for getting my top braces off, and the next appointment (a few weeks later cause my bottom teeth weren't done yet) my bottom braces.


They do it with your braces on because they need to put the retainer on right after the removal of your braces so they don't shift or anything

Alrighty, I guess it's just gonna depend on how they do it
It makes sense for both.

I think my appointment is 50 minutes. It's either 30 or 50. Can't remember. I have two appointments, one is a checkup, other is impressions. I'm thinking the checkup is probably to do last minute things and I'll get them off some other day.
