This one not empty: Some Families Can Still Save with DDP, right?

You are correct, the tip is not included in the price of CRT. For those who are planning on avoiding additioanl tips while using any form of DDP in 2008 I believe the limitations for included are room service, HDDR, and the Luau. If there are others I am not aware.

so it looks like thoes you listed and CRT have tip included although signature resturants do not...

Ok i had to figure this and put it on paper b/c i was starting to worry with all the complaining i see about how this plan won't save... but we have 6 TS ADR made so i just did it was 6 night DDP ... there are 2 adults and 3 kids on here...

Chef Mickey's Dinner Bill $101
1900 Dinner $107
Le Cellier Lunch $94 (give or take on what is ordered)
50's Prime Time Lunch $ 72 (again give or take on what's ordered)
Liberty TT dinner $101
Crystal palace B'fast $76

TOTAL: about $550 give or take again b/c of above meals ...
DDP: we would pay $635.70 for family of 2 adults 3 kids 6 days
Diffance : about $85.00
OOP For TIPS :20% would be about $120 or so give or take again on service it will probably be more. But either DDP or not we still have to pay the tip right??? so that doesn't figure in anywhere.

AND WE STILL Get 30 counter service credits to spend and 30 snack credits ... I'm pretty sure we'll spend WAY MORE THEN $85.00 on snacks and CS meals.

becca, I think your off in your example, from the menus on all ears, it would seem you have overestimated your OOP prices at those restaurants by bit. Thats not to say it wouldnt work in your favor (especially if you would always order dessert anyway), however I think that the reality is, your much more likely to to come in 'just under' what you would have realistically spent OOP 'if' you use all your credits and again, order the 'most' expensive items. Now, thats not to say the peace of mind isnt worth it or not having to look at those prices, etc...however the savings aspect may not be the driving factor.

I still think the DDP is ok! We purchased it...

The way I look at is three of our Buffets meals are~
$27.99 per adult without tax
$12.99 per child without tax

I am paying $48 a day for 2 meals and a snack on the dining plan for my son and I.The buffet meal alone is going to cost roughly $43 with tax. It still saves me money!!! I couldn't feed the two of us lunch at a counter service and a snack for $5.

I just don't see how i'm under estimating... ????

all ears isn't the most upto date site... Chet Mickey's had a price increase as of 9/30 according the DIS site and there is a possible surcharge that will be in effect the dates we are att LLT and crystal palace making both of them more due to Spring Break... lovely.

chef Mickeys:
2 adult: $55.98
3 kids : $44.97
Total: $100.95
tax (6.5%?): $6.56
Total DDP pays : $107.51

This will be the same way for 1900 dinner as well little less since it's about $1 less per meal.

Le Cellier and 50's are pretty head on, me and dh will both get steak at Le Cellier and then fried chicken and fish sand at 50's plus drinks at both places for adults... kids meals at both are 7.49 and there's 3 kids... tax at 6.5%.... we will all get desert b/c we kinda have a sweet tooth! LOL i really looking forward to that!!!

Again LLT and Crystal palace may have a surchage... but even w/o it ...

Crystal Palace b'fast:
2 Adults $37.98
3 Kids: $32.97
Total: $70.95
Tax (6.5%?): $4.61
total DDP pays: $75.57 (this again will be higher if we do infact have the $4-5 surcharge)

If i am mis calculating some how please let me know ... i'd like to be sure i am showing my dh the saving the right way as well as how much we need to budget in for tips, ect.

Sorry about empty duplicate posts - everything was stuck...:confused3

We have a trip coming up at the end of the month, and with all the changes and questions regarding the new DDP for the year, I keep asking myself, are we really saving anything? I've run the numbers before, but I put myself through that again! :lmao: Come on, you know you've done it!

Okay, so we're paying for 2 adults and 2 kids. DDP cost is about $96 a day + OOP for tips (using Disney's 18% for these calculations).

LTT dinner OOP cost:
27.99x2
12.99x2
87.29 w/ 1.65 % tax
TIP 15.71
=103.00

DDP cost 96 + 15.71 tip=111.71
$8.71 diff and DDP still gives you 4 snacks and CS meal
______________________________________________________________
HV lunch OOP cost:
24.99x2
13.99x2
83.03 w/ tax
TIP 14.94
=97.97

DDP cost 96 + 14.94 tip = 110.94
$12.97 diff and DDP still gives you 4 snacks and CS meal
___________________________________________________________
Ohana dinner OOP cost
25.99x2
11.99x2
80.90 w/ tax
TIP 14.56
=95.46

DDP cost 96 + 14.56 tip = 110.56
$15.10 diff and DDP still gives you 4 snacks and CS meal
____________________________________________________________
CP breakfast OOP cost:
18.99x2
10.99x2
63.86 w/ tax
TIP 11.49
=75.35

DDP cost 96 + 11.49 tip = 107.49
$32.14 diff - 4 snacks and CS will be close but still a few $ saved
________________________________________________________
CRT dinner OOP cost:
40.99x2
25.99x2
142.67 w/tax
TIP 25.68
=168.35

DDP cost 96 + 96 (2 credits) + 0 (Tip incl) = 192
$23.65 diff and you still get 8 snacks and 2 CS meals
_________________________________________________________

So even though it's not as good a deal as it was when tips were included, it still seems like we're saving even though we're not going to upscale restaurants that might end with a higher bill. Of course, once the kids start having to pay adult prices :scared1: for DDP, I think we'll be saying bye-bye DDP.

Are you sure that is the right amount of tax? Sounds very low to me....

Thanks, I didn't know that it was included, I checked the menus on the dis and it said tax and gratuity extra so I thought that was correct.

I multiplied the total times 1.065 or 6.5%. If there's an error, it's b/c of my typing fingers. :lmao: Of course, since you said that, now I have to check...

Oh, I see what you mean! I did have a typo. I put 1.65 % I meant x 1.065 or 6.5%, which is what I did use in my math, so my figures should be right.

I wasn't questioning your math... I just thought it would be more then 6.5%. Where I live it is a 10% tax when you go out to eat. 6.5 is a bargain :rotfl2:
Have a great trip!

I just don't see how i'm under estimating... ????

I am not saying that you 'Cant' save money, just that if you deviate at all from your plan its much more likley to be break even by the end of the trip. I hope its completely one sided in your favor and not Disney's bye the time you come home!

But again I think its all dependant on sticking to your prescibed plan to come out ahead, order an App and dont feel like dessert, then thats just one more case where this starts to go the other way, or for that matter, if you skip an ADR for whatever reason, then its unlikely that you would come out ahead. Its certainly not impossible, I just think in planning best/worst case scenarios should be accounted for.

I knew what you meant. :) 10% tax? OUCH! That's got to hurt! I wish I lived in one of the states that has no tax on food, clothes, toys, etc., etc. That sure would be nice.

While this year on the ddp, we won't save as much as the past visits we are still going to use it. For us the fact of having your food already paid for is a seller. The one thing I don't like is the fact that they are adding tip, we are going as a family of 7. I have noticed in places around here the service in general usually isn't as good when they know that they already have the tip in the bag. Anyone have any good suggestions on how to handle this

I actually thought the tax was 7.5% for FL. I just know that it is more than ours at 6%(PA)

The basic sales tax is 6%. But counties can have their own and I think cities too. I think DTD is higher than the rest of Disney since it is in another county. I sell handmade jewelry at craft fairs here in SC and have to look up the tax rate for each town and county. I know that the taxes for the hotels differ even if the daily rate is the same.
