I just saw this and thought I would share.

Ebay # 2164194345

I just saw 2 more like it from different sellers... None are clear that it is a FANTASY pin that has NOTHING to do with Disney. They seem to imply that this is a Fantasy pin FROM Disney. Be careful folks... The only real pin here is tha one you can buy at DTD... The base has NOTHING to do with Disney. It is a pin someone made up for the pin celebration. All I can say is read auction descriptions and make sure you are aware of what you are buying....

I saw a young boy at the September event who had a full lanyard of those with different characters on the main base. His father had designed the base pin.
Of course I liked the one with the Mickey and made him an offer which he turned down. He told me that it was an LE of 500 and he would not trade anything above an LE 1000. They were also selling them for I seem to recall $15.00 (on Property at the small store under Spaceship Earth)
I think the price that pin got on e-bay is ridiculous, and I hope it was the owner bidding up the price and someone didn't get stuck with a pin that he paid more than it's value. Peggie

I have traded and bought pins from the buyer so I don't think that was her driving up the price. She must have really wanted it. She's no rookie with over 3500 references

I bumped into this family at the Sept. event as well. The pin base is cute, but I certainly wasn't willing to give them an LE 1000 pin for it. I also thought that the folks at Disney wouldn't be happy about what they were doing. But, if people are wiling to trade an LE 1000 Disney pin for a fantasy pin, or pay high prices...who are we to judge...

I don't understand it personally. For that kind of money, I would have them made myself and have a bunch of them to trade.

This is the same character that led me to believe it was a disney LE 500, and I stupidly traded him an LE cruise pin for one of the stupid things!!!

Micheal came up afterwards and told me I'd been taken advantage of. I said, "what goes around somes around." He is really a stinker, he and his wife both. SHE is actually the one who did the trade.

These two give pin trading a bad name. I have four "fantasy pins", and I ALWAYS make it clear what they are, always!

So please beware!

Blessings,
Winnie

If they use a REAL Disney add on pin, does the Build A Pin Store ADD it to this fantasy base for them?

If they were SELLING a pin on property I don't think Disney would approve of that.

He does state that the base is Fantasy, and the add-on is Disney. I hope the buyer doesn't think the entire pin is "Disney".

As far as Disney doing the add-on, I have no idea.

Blessings,
Winnie

We just need to be careful when trading... Or buying. I see auctions like this a lot and it just gets me mad when what I would consider at best a very unclear discription for what looks like a Disney pin. When in doubt always ask someone you trust. I still have to ask a few friends about pins I want to get to make sure they are what the seller claims.

If these people knew what they bought then all the power to them but from the emails I have gotten and a few of the replys here.. Not everyone knows the truth on these pins. It is part of my role here to make sure that this information is made avaliable. We would not be a good information board if we didn't share all the information we knew... As a collector of Disneyana I would not be to happy to find out I had a fake in my collection... I would be less so to find out everyone else knew but me... We look at it as being vetrans and we know better... Well some of us are new and just getting in to this hobby.

We all need to look out for our friends...

I will say this again... A Fantasy pin is just that.. a Fantasy.. If you want one and trade for it fine. If you buy it from an auction... Make sure you know what it is. If it s mentioned as a Disney pin and a Fantasy pin in the same auction ask the seller what is what. Also ask here if you have a concern...

Just no mention of sellers names or direct links are allowed.

If I have doubts, I look at Pinpics. If I still have doubts, I go to the boards.

Shame shame shame .
I would say more but Nat would edit me
This is what gives pin collecting a bad name.
I am truely disappointed in this auction

I think that, unfortunately, not everyone knows what the word "fantasy" means when it comes to a pin. Otherwise, they would definitely know better than to spend that much...wouldn't they?

Very well said Sharon... This is why we as experianced traders and collectors must be clear when we deal with traders and collectors unknown to us... We may know but we can't assume they do.

I have encountered these people twice. Several times during the september event I witnessed them selling these pins all over Disney property for $10.00 a piece. Not sure how Disney would feel about that.

The second time was when this guys wife was trading with Winnie on our last trip. She (the wife) pretended she had "just traded" for one of these pins with a tink Build a pin add-on on it, as if she only had one of them, when the fact was her husband MAKES them.

This is SUCH A SHAME! I agree that this is what gives pin traders a bad name.

If you encounter them - - I encourage you to avoid trading with these people at all costs -- they are clearly sharks. And while you are at it give the a good kick in the shins for what they did to our Winnie!

Awwwww Micheal!! :D

My protector and defender. You are the sweetest.

Blessings galore!!

I am so new to ALL of this, and when I went to look at the auction my mouth dropped open at the price. Since I had seen this thread, I read the wording carefully; it does say that the add-on was permanently attached by Disney. If that isn't true, then the seller is blatantly lying about the pin.

I buy and sell on eBay a LOT, but never anywhere near that price range. Thank goodness.

It has come to my attention and I would like to point out here that while this is just one auction and I saw 2 others from other sellers. This person selling this pin is not the person who made them or sold them to the public. I have (now that I know who it is) traded with this person who sold it and have found him to be nothing but a fair trader.

I was using this auction to point out that it can be very easy to see a pin and assume it is Disney and to make sure you know what you are bidding on before you pay any amount of money. Read the discriptions and ask questions. Not every pin under Disney pins on Ebay is in fact a DISNEY pin... It should be but it is not.

As for tradin for a fantasy pin... I do it all the time for ones that I like. Some are very well done and are very imaginative. But I always remember that they are just that.. Fantasy pins.
