I have been on these boards for a couple months now. I was just wondering for all those who have been doing this alot longer. Do you ever feel let down or disapointed when you go to disney because you talk about it all the time. By no means am I getting sick of Disney or these boards. My Dh asked me last night " don't you think you taking some of the mystery out of Disney by reading and talking about it all the time." I told him no but now he has me thinking. Is he right? Do you think you can overload yourself on it?

well I have been on these for a few years - I still love WDW - I brought DVC because I love Disney so much....

Now in the last few years - I have been to other places - Hilton head, SC -
Atlanta, Ga - St Augustine, FL - VB, FL - Williamsburg, VA - Panama City Beach, Fl - but hey I just love WDW!!!

my opinion - nothin' is better than ::MickeyMo

Just the opposite! The more I read the DIS, and other boards, the more I plan, the more I enjoy each and every trip! A WDW vacation is like no other. What other destination has boards as thorough as these, or countless websites with thousands of information pages? There so much to plan - it's half the fun. BUT...only half, cuz the other half is being in the midst of the magic when you finally get there. (And the DIS is a sure cure for cabin fever and winter doldrums! :cool1:

I wonder about that for people planning first trips.

Before I found the Disboards, we had already been going to WDW for over 20 years so we already had our favorites, routines, etc.. We love WDW and I love the DIS. But I do wonder if it could make newbies get so caught up in micromanaging their trips that they miss the magic and especially that first time wonder at it all. This will be an interesting thread to read.

Thank you so much veterans! I was hoping you would say that!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

DW and I have more than 30 trips spread over 25 years. I'd say she is an addict and I am getting there. Visiting the boards is like looking at old pictures of a good vacation. Somebody will bring something up and I'll picture DSs (now 20 and 22) in a stroller in front of the castle. Besides, you're never too old to learn something new.

I discovered the Disboards prior to my first WDW trip in 2002. I had become so obsessed with planning, etc. that I became overloaded!! Now, once we got to WDW, it all flew out the window and we had a truley magical time.

BTW - About a week before that trip, my DH sent me a dozen roses to my office and on the card it read "Don't worry, you're trip will be great. Love, Mickey Mouse" He knew I was hooked!!

I do believe that these boards can be "dangerous" for first time planners, but it sure did help in money saving and tips, etc.

My husband said the same thing to me when I was planning our last trip. (This was his first time.) After we got there he realized how much planning it took etc.... he told me that he now understands !!!
He also knows I have a little addiction to this board. :cool1:

Our first trip my husband looked on the DIS, I didn't read anything, I figured we had the Unofficial Guide, and Disneys paperwork- we would be fine. Not so. I got on the plane saying I would never go back.

I started reading the DIS to see what people really saw in the place, I realized the missing link was the word "planning" So I planned our second trip, allowing some things to be open or flexible, we have the BEST time!!

I haven't used the DIS quite as much for this trip, but I use the search button now to find what I need for info and I know what what my resort will be like- I love POFQ, Ill miss being pleasently surprised, but I am thrilled that I am going to a resort I know I love.

I take a day off or 2 if I feel like its overload.

Happy planning!!

My husband used to say the same thing till I started saving us money and learning tips and all the hidden secrets! Now he says keep it up! :flower:

I love to read these boards to keep current and help others. People that don't know about the boards are amazed when I say, "I don't know the answer but let me check into it" and come back rather quickly with a response (usually from someone here).

As for newbies using the boards:
While on the bus on our last trip there was a family that obviously knew very little about WDW (and let's face it, there's a lot to know which most of us probably take for granted).

So, the husband and wife are talking over how to get where they were going(and I'm deparately trying not to barge into their conversation). We were on the bus to Epcot and they wanted to know how to get to the Contemporary. Asked if the bus driver if there was a bus. The bus driver said, "No, there's no bus from Epcot. You should take the monorail to the TTC and switch to the resort monorail which will take you to the Contemporary". The wife then said to the husband, "I think the monorail costs extra" to which the husband replied, "yeah, it must." :earseek: I'm glad he asked the bus driver and found out that all Disney transportation is complementary.

When we got off the bus and out of earshot of the family my husband said, "how can they come here and not even know that the monorail is free?" to which I responded, "And to think you used to consider me crazy for all my research and planning." He then admitted, "No, I'm glad you do all your research and planning. I know that all I have to do is show up and we'll be set." I smiled :teeth:

:teacher: The moral of the story is: Don't fret about planning and getting all the details right. Soak up as much as you can from these boards and you'll be just fine. You'll remember the important things when you need them. And if you forget to check out one of those secret little things that only Walt and members of the DIS know about it's only more reason to go back again.

AND REMEMBER, Disney Transportation is complementary.... see, if you remember that you're already ahead of at least one family. :)

I am a newbie to the boards, and I am addicted now! I keep the forum open throughout my workday and when I take a break, I just pop in and see what's new. Sometimes I find myself laughing at my desk from the stories! I love it! My first trip will be in December! My DH is not really thrilled to go, so I am really planning wisely to make sure he finds the "magic"! So far, by reading the boards I saved over $300!!!! So, thanks to all the DISer's for getting me through the workday, making me laugh, and saving me money! :love1:

We went to WDW last Feb for the first time as a family. It was my dh and dd's (then 3) first time there. We are all hooked and have our next trip booked for April. We were originally going to wait a few years, but then ended up booking a trip for 14 months later. I found this site after our first trip and I found so much more information than I did in any of the guidebooks. I still read the guidebooks, but their information tends to get stale (especially this year with all the ticket changes). I absolutely love to think about my trip on a daily basis until we go, so the Dis is for me! My dh on the other hand does not like to think about the trip until about 30-days before so he doesn't get overly excited. Once we hit 4/1, he will start to pour over the boards and books. Everyone is different I guess. The Dis just gets me more excited and relaxed about my trip. I feel so much more informed for this upcoming trip.

Hi! I used the boards extensively to plan our first trip last June. I don't think we would have had as good a time as we did if it hadn't been for the helpful people here. I learned more about activities that our boys would enjoy, the transportation system, priority seating etc. from the experts here than i could have imagined. My husband thought I was going overboard. Then we got there and I knew that we could cut through the shops on Main Street to skirt the parade crowds and he was converted! And I saved about $900 because on the info here. No disappointment here!

::yes:: It makes the trips even more enjoyable, because I know so much more than if I just read the guidebooks. :)

I love coming here and reading it. Gives me my Disney fix when I can't be there. It has helped in my planning with resort discounts, what places I knew I needed to be making PS for at the 90 day mark.

I will tell you my trip in 04 was the best trip I have had yet. It may have had to do with my youngest son liking the characters this year, or that my oldest son is now big enough to go on the height restricted rides, or the planning I did.

I am sure all 3 played a role but I don't get disappointed by reading what is here.
