I donate all of my girls clothes at the end of each season so I was thinking do you think I could leave some of my girls clothes behind at the resort? With that said I will be doing laundry so they will be clean and folded and put in a bag. I was thinking I could right a nice letter to house keeping saying they are for anyone who needs them? Do you think they would be really angry? I know people are prob going to think I am wrong but what do you think? This would save space in my bags for the trip home so what do you think? These wouldn't be ratty old stained clothes either they would be nice little outfits.

I don't think they'd be allowed to take your stuff because how would anyone know if they just robbed all your clothes (and made up a note) vs you actually leaving them behind?

I don't think mousekeeing is permitted to take it. It will get taken, put in Disney's lost and found - which I think Disney then donates if it remains unclaimed.

We've had this discussion over on the DVC board about leftover food - and a lot of people leave it for housekeeping, but there is some question over if housekeeping can actually take it for personal use.

If you leave a note saying you left it on purpose IMO there is a 99% chance that it will go straight to the trash! Unless you just happen to hit the housekeeper with a child that exact size or one who has garage sales (and they are allowed to keep it) they are not going to want to deal with it and will find it easiest to just dump it.

If you really wanted to leave it you could always take it down to the front desk on your check out day and ask that they either give it to someone in need or donate it to a local charity. Disney is usually really good about doing that sort of stuff, but I don't know what they would do if you just left it in your room. Also I don't know if you are flying or driving but there are TONS of Goodwill drop off locations just outside of the world in some of the shopping centers around the world. You could pull up the nearest one to your hotel and see if it would be possible to take it there. Sometimes they even pick up.

Could you find a goodwill or similar drop off bin between the parks and airport?

It will end up getting sold to castmembers, then what is left over donated. I used to go to the castmember store with a friend of mine (located behind MK). There they sell all of the broken merchandise, strollers, clothes, ect left behind in the rooms.

When I had food leftover once (at BWV), I asked the housekeeper the day we were leaving if I could leave some unopened things for them. She said the housekeeping manager would come in and take an inventory of the items, then it would be known it wasn't stolen from us. They would then take it and distribute it to whomever wanted the items (we had unopened yogurts, drinks and a few other things).

In another country once (Mexico), we stayed at a very high end resort. At the end of our stay, we had dollar store floaty rings and some unopened soy milks in our room (I had brought from home, as DS is very milk allergic). The bellman was VERY appreciative to take everything! I think there, although it was a very expensive resort, the employees make and have very little, so he was so happy to take anything I gave him.

I do think it would be nice if you talk to a housekeeper early in your trip, and explain that when you leave, you may have some clothing that you don't need, and would anyone like to keep it. Definitely talk to them ahead of time. I am sure they could maybe find someone with a child the same size that may want the items. Kids outgrow things so fast! I know I always loved hand me downs from family and friends.

I have heard of many families who take items with the intention of giving them to hotel employees in other countries, like Mexico and the Caribbean, so maybe in this economy, I would definitely think they could find someone who wants the clothes.

Even on our Disney cruise, I had some things that I didn't need, and my cabin attendant was happy to take them. She was so sweet.

I don't know about clothes/perishable foods, but for those who have strollers and such that they want to leave behind, you can contact Give Kids the World who will come pick it up at the resort. They are a great charity who offer trips to Disney World for terminally ill children and their families.

If you really want to donate them, I'd look for a Goodwill or Salvation Army bin on the way back to the airport.

I don't know about Florida, but in New England, if you call Salvation Army and have stuff to donate, they'll come pick it up.
