This may be silly...

We may possibly buy into DVC around June...What are the chances of being able to do a 2BR and 3 1BR's at any resort in the beginning of Oct next year? I know this may seem like an outlandish question, but the funds may not be available until June to purchase and we would like to wait until we have the cash rather than purchase on credit. I am thinking that with the economy the way it is now, it may not be hard if we are not picky about the resort???? Or am I just being ignorant about this? We would like to be at the same resort of course and would be willing to have two of those 1BR be studios if needed. Is it too early to even be worrying about this?

Sorry if this makes no sense. I am just trying to plan for a fairly big family vacation. Thanks.

No. Not silly at all.

If you don't plan to book until June you may have trouble getting rooms for the first week of October. October tends to be a very busy month at DVC properties and it often books up several months in advance. If you don't really care which resort you stay at (they're all great!) then you'll have a better chance of getting something. If you can't get it right away you can go on the waitlist until 7 days before your arrival.

SSR is large. I am thinking that you may find availability at this resort. I have even found availability at SSR on short notice for Jul 4th. I think the smaller DVC's, probably not.

I think SSR and probably OKW will have some availability. However, since you want 4 rooms, you may have to waitlist, or book some rooms at SSR and others at OKW. You can always meet one another at the parks or DtD.

You may want to consider it for the following year. That way you can bank a year of points to use toward it. You did not indicate how long of a stay but I would think 5 nights with 3-1bed rooms and a two bedroom will at least be 450+ points. Given it is a big family trip many people need to have vacations approved and it may be difficult to coordinate it.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

October 2009?
Shouldn't half of Kidani and all of BLT be available by then? That should open up a lot of AKV (and consequently SSR and OKW) inventory. It should be a lot better than this year.
Unless DVC sales slow and they need to offer a ton of bonus developer points to keep sales going...

Just because the resort is open does not mean all the room are available to DVC members for point rental. My understanding is until those units are sold and decalred into inventory they are the developers inventory and are rented for cash.

Yes, you are correct that all inventory must be owned by members.
It does seem (my guess, and may not be fact) that the SSR developer points have created a reduction in total inventory in the first half of 2009..

I do think that by October 2009, with 2 resorts in the completed, active sales phase there will be a temporary bump in availability. For instance, a family goes to WDW in July, and buys Kidani. Their unit get declared and put into inventory, but they may not use their points for 6+ months.. (Unless there are immediate use points)

if you don't care which WDW DVC resorts - then think you will be okay.

remember to purchase your points in 50's - don't just allow them to make a 450 point contract - you would want nine(9) - 50's point contracts - not one.

smaller point contracts are easier to resale.

Thank you all for your responses. I really do feel kind of silly even considering a big family vacation so soon after purchasing into DVC. It's just that it is my and DH's 10th anniv in Sept and the kids are on fall break the first two weeks of Oct, so I thought that would be a good time to go. (not that long, of course!) (don't I wish, though!) We may have to push the trip out a bit if there is not availability.

Thanks for all of your help!

If you are buying direct through Disney, you could make a condition of the sale based on this trip availability. Sometimes guides can make it happen. Getting the first reservation is really the only item you can negotiate on, but that may be for one room only.
