This may be an odd question...Nutritional Information??

I know that when you're on holidays you really shouldn't be too worried about how nutritious your food is, but I need to be.

I am about half way through a 300 pound weight loss and I want to keep on a roll with it when I take my next trip to WDW. I went back in February and really didn't do as well as I should have and ended up gaining 4 pounds while there.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a listing of nutritional information for the restaurants on property.

I know most restaurants here have a nutritional information sheet available upon request and I was wondering if WDW offers the same thing, or possibly has one online.

I know that I could pretty much do an estimated guess based on outside the world restaurants, but a list from them would be much more accurate.

Thanks!

Hi-
This has caused many discussions in the past. I would call customer service and ask. Up to a couple of months ago, no they didn't have this posted anywhere of my knowledge. I would love to see it too. I gain 7 to 8 pounds every trip.

Congratulations on your 150 pound loss! I know what a tremendous challenge that can be!

Are you following a particular plan? I've been doing WW "forever," and I have a game plan for when I'm at WDW in July.

Try to ask yourself "how important" is the food that's put in front of you in terms of having it. If you *really* just gotta have it, then have a 1/2 portion and go from there. Sometimes we get into the trap of having it because it's there and not because we can't live without it. So start with that.

Remember that grilled is almost always safer, and I'm told that fruits and veggies tend to be in abundant supply most places.

You can guess on the nutrition information, and you can also go to various places like sparkpeople and google nutrition information.

I wish you the best. It's hard to lose weight in general, but it can seem futile on vacation. I know you can do this!

GREAT QUESTION!!! I was actually going to start a thread about this. I'm trying to keep track of calories and I wanted to have an idea of what I was consuming while in WDW. I'd love to find out more info, too.

Great minds think a like. I too am wondering on NI as I am a fellow WW and taking my trip in August during Free dining. I am going to note my walking and take my lap top to log on to WW for pts and try and use comparable items.

there are plenty of sites out there that you can google and get NI information.

Congrats on your loss and good luck :cheer2:, remember it isn't a race to loose weight but more a journey:woohoo:

I asked this same question a few weeks ago - I'm a recent heart attack survivor, so my diet is obviously changing. This is indeed a "hot topic".

Disney doesn't release their nutritional numbers, but the subject has bcome important enough that they have established a "department" to handle special nutritional needs. If you go to the disabilities board (here on the DIS), I believe there is a sticky thread that includes the information on how to reach them.

The key is that you provide the information about your diet when you make your reservations, and the chefs are apparently willing in most locations to talk with you personally about menu items, and possibly about modifying them for your needs.

Good luck - following a cardiac diet has allowed me to drop 25 pounds in 13 weeks, despite eating 3-5 meals a day. So I know weight loss is possible!

I'm always careful about what I eat in WDW. I never order dessert. I share a Mickey ice cream bar with one of my kids. I order carefully from the menu. One nice thing is that I have lost weight on every Disney trip we've taken. I chalk that up to sweating and all of the walking we do. Plus, pushing a 30lb. kid in a 12lb. stroller helps too! I find that I eat less there too. It's just too hot to eat in August.

Take a look at the menus before you leave for your trip to make some decisions ahead of time. There are plenty of salads (watch the dressing), fruit, fish, etc. I think it's fairly easy to make wise choices. The sodium, on the other hand....

Congrats on your weight loss and have a great trip!

It can be incredibly difficult to find nutritional info on the food served at the parks and resorts. I have had success with asking the servers how something thing is prepared, then ordering off the menus and being very specific about how I'd like it to be prepared for me. Grilled proteins without oil added, steamed vegetables without butter added, etc. Also, make sure you eat balanced meals with protein, fiber and some fat to help keep you satisfied so you don't end up snacking between meals on something you shouldn't. I feel it's my responsibility to make sure I put good things in me, not many other people will care what I eat for me (except maybe my mom)!

One thing I'm doing differently this summer is purchasing the TiW card. Last summer we were on the DDP and you felt like you were almost obligated to eat dessert. After all, it was part of the cost of the plan. I like the TiW card because I can just get an app. for an entree if I feel like it. I'm not compelled to eat myself to death! :rotfl: Literally!

Firstly, congrats on the weight loss.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Secondly, I'm of the same mind and think WDW really should at least list NI for perhaps heart healthier items, though I know they would never list NI for everything. I think the best bet is to do what has already been suggested, such as moderate portions. These are things you probably already know based on the fantastic job you've already accomplished.

I usually also work out a little more, and eat a little less the week before and the week after my trips so I don't feel guilty since my will power on vacation isn't quite what it is at home. I've lost 30 lbs in the last 5 months, and have 20 lbs more to go, and hope to lose it before my next trip. I will still however be just as vigilant, but I don't plan on letting it impede a good time.:)

Good luck on your continued weight loss.:goodvibes

One good thing about the WDW vacation is all the walking. I plan to buy a pedometer and keep track of how much I walk during this vacation. Since we're staying at a DVC resort, I also plan to use the heck out of the gym/fitness center! I just got back into a routine at my local gym and I don't want to lose my momentum! Plus, I know I'll feel a LOT better about having a chocolate wave at Coral Reef if I know I've been hitting the weights and cardio that day.

This is from Disney's FAQ section of their website:

Can nutritional information be provided for menu items?

We are not able to provide you with accurate or reliable nutritional information. However, we are happy to attempt to work within your dietary requests and may suggest some menu alternatives that may satisfy your requests. We try to provide all our Guests with an excellent experience by offering a wide array of dining locations, experiences and menu options. We hope that among all those selections you will find food items that meet your requests.

In California restaraunts are required to have nutritional guidelines though they are not all accurate becuase of serving sizes, etc. The chefs are really good at answering information or helping you out. Just eat in moderation and stay with the same rules. If it says breaded, fried, sauced, etc... stay away or share.

When we went in 2006, I had a medical condition wherein I could not eat foods greater than 25-30% fat. Every WDW restaurant and counter service accommodated us by either letting us see the nutritional values (available in large binders at each restaurant), or allowing me to talk with the chef about food prep.

I am on WW my self and i have lost 67 pounds. I am going to try my best to make smart choices while i am there.
