This just doesn't seem right

I did not witness this but my DH did. We were taking turns riding Space Mountain and while I was gone he saw a family of 4 (mom, dad and two kids) coming up to the Fast Pass return line. Everybody had their fast passes except the youngest little girl could not find hers. He said the CM refused to let her go. I understand that you need your return ticket, but the rest of the family obviously had their FPs and the little girl had just lost hers. The CM just refused. I really hope they all just ended up going through the regular line because the wait was 5 minutes at this time.

He also said this same CM had some people come up who didn't understand the FP system. He said they didn't seem to understand english very well either. Anyway, they went to the FP line by accident and she kind of pointed them to the area where you pick up your FPs. They got their FPs and walked immediately right back to her line to try to get in. They didn't understand they needed to wait for the time on the ticket and he said she did not even try to explain it to them. She also didn't point out to them there there was a 5 minute wait in the regular line so to just go there. So they left. I just don't understand why she didn't even try to help them. Of course, I asked DH why he didn't get up and try to tell them but he couldn't leave my sleeping son to go help. I wish I had been there and I would have at least pointed to the regular line and told them there was no wait. Oh well.

I have never been in a CM's shoes so maybe I don't understand all of the rules or something, but it just seemed to me like she didn't even try to go out of her way to help anyone.

It does sound like the CM didn't do all they could have done to help either family, but you do have to remember that CMs are human. They get headaches, they make mistakes, they get frustrated and tired ... just like the rest of us. This CM sounds like they were either tired or just having a bad day and didn't go the extra mile (or even the extra step) to help out. In the case of the first family, I've witnessed people trying to talk their way into the FP line by saying they've lost their passes, and I know that's been a problem at some attractions. So there may well be a "zero tolerance" policy now. The foreign family poses another problem, since not everyone is good at communicating with folks when there's a language barrier.

It doesn't sound like the CM was cruel or rude or anything, just not going that extra "Disney distance." I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to an off day.

We just got back this Wednesday. I did FP for a quite a few rides. More than once I saw people trying to get into the FP return line without a ticket. The lines were ok, but SM, PP and Pooh had long waits and some people just strolled up. At least one family didn't speak English and the CM was trying to explain.

My youngest DD won't be three until the end of this month. Since we didn't have a ticket for her, we didn't have a FP for her. We were never hasseled.

It makes you wonder how many people try to play stupid and just go up the FP return line. I bet the CM's see their fair share of it on a normal shift.

Could it be that the castmember was new, or perhaps there was a language barrier so the guest just couldn't understand?

Like anywhere else, you will find those who will bend the rules and those who think it is their job to enforce the rules to the letter. Sorry to hear those guests found the latter type of castmember at Space Mountain that day.

It didn't seem to me that the CM was having a bad day. While my DH was having his turn riding Space Mountain I saw her there too. When the kids would get measured and they were tall enough the CM would clap and say "yeah!". This happened more than once, so she seemed to be in a good mood. So who knows. I figured CM possibly had been told to be very strict about the Fast Pass line, but since the other 3 members of the family had theirs I would just think it was obvious that she really had lost it. Oh well. I was really just curious what other people thought about it who go more often than we do.

Since the SPace MTn. line is so long and winding and no CM's in sight, it seems to be favorable conditions for those who don't want to follow the rules.

One night while we were there a few weeks ago, the Standby line was quite long while the FP line was only about 20 minutes. We were in the Fast Pass line. A young couple about 20 years old or so jumped the line over to the FP line right ahead of our party. Of course, we were timid and said nothing. We couldn't figure out how they were going to get in without the FP ticket. Well, as the FP line approached the loading area, the lovely couple jumped back over into the Stand By line. No one there said a word either. They shaved off about 20 minutes of wait time with their shenanigans. Many folks don't like conflict and rarely say anything about the line hoppers. I certainly don't want to be in the way when some one 'goes off'!!

It would have been more productive to mention this to a manager or to Guest Relations at City Hall if you thought it was a problem (which it sounds like to me). It's also a good idea to get a CM's name if you have a concern about them.

Might have been a rude CM, but I have seen guests breaking rules and pretending they didn't understand English(simple commands like "no photography" )at the MGM animation studio.

I saw a cm walking a couple of boys out the fastpass line on Space Mountain this week. I assumed they jumped the line because standby was backed all the way through the tunnel at the time.
