This Isn’t Turkey!?! Part 10 Blizzard Beach and Race Rock

If you have missed any days please see my Trip Reports Index

Me, Sarah, 29 (turn 30 in Florida) – only adult planner
DH, Craig, 32 loves holidays, hates planning
DD, Holly, age 9 loves rides and hoping to try Kraken, loves planning
DD, Rowan, age 7 never been on any big rides, fearless (or so she says)

Thursday 29th June 2006

We decided to have a fairly relaxing day today as we were going out for dinner at Race Rock. As we would be eating late we decided to have big breakfast and headed off to IHOP.

It was busier this time as we were eating a bit later than last time but we were still seated quickly. I had the Breakfast Sampler – again. Holly had a Rooty Jnr – again. Craig had a Philly Stacker (steak sandwich) and Rowan wanted breakfast ham and hash browns but as this was not on the menu our server ordered her a kid’s Silver 5 and substituted in these items. Great service! That little lot and some OJ were very tasty and came to $28.07. We had a look in the gift shop across the road and came out with a Spongebob hoodie for Rowan. $12.77

OK then, off to Blizzard Beach. We were very excited to get there as we had spotted Summit Plummet a few times on our journeys on WDW property. We got a locker which was a bit of a walk from the main entrance and not quite a handy as last time.

We headed straight into the lazy river for a float around to get the chair lift up to the top of the hill. It was a good way to get our bearings and an amazing view of the park. First ride was Teamboat Springs, the family raft ride. Oh my word, it was amazing! The ride was great fun sliding right up on the sides and turning around and around. Loved going backwards as you couldn’t see what was coming next. It also lasted for a long time compared to the slides at Typhoon Lagoon.

Near the bottom of the slide was the Ski Patrol pre-teen area which had loads of cool stuff and Craig and I took a seat for a while to watch the girls have fun. They wobbled on the iceberg walk, zoomed down the water slides and slid down the zip wire that ended in a huge splash. Rowan made everyone laugh as she held on too long and she swung forwards and backwards before letting go!

We floated round the lazy river to our locker area passing through the ice caves. The water that poured from the ceiling was FREEZING and the girls delighted in popping out of their tubes to pull their dad and I through the stream of icy cold water. I think I screamed more than I did on Kraken!

We ate lunch at the Warming Hut. Not sure what we had but my lack of notes means it was neither amazingly good nor terrible.

Next up we headed to the Toboggan Racers. Craig and Holly went down first then me and Rowan. I had to help Rowan get going so I was last to zoom down the slide and zoom I did. The more weight, the faster you go and I literally flew down getting some air time on the way down – yikes! I was heading straight for the end of the slide and no idea how to stop when out of reflex / panic I pushed my hands down with all my might and I stopped – phew! Rowan thought that it was hilarious and said that I had soaked her as I flew past. She still loves telling this story!

We headed back up the slope – a real killer on the legs after no hills for more than a week – and went to try Snow Stormers. I was last to go down and it was the scariest thing I did all holiday. I was thrown about all over the place. I bashed my elbows, hands, legs and my foot hit the top of the slide – the dry bit – and squeaked and squealed as it dragged along, taking a bit of skin off! Ouch! I should have let go of the mat and I think I would have been OK. Again I think it was my weight that made me go so fast!

Craig went to join the hour long queue for Summit plummet and the girls and I went back to Teamboat Springs. The weather was starting to look ominous. It was very dark and drizzling. Craig joined us not long after as he thought that there was a good chance that Summit Plummet might close and he did not want to waste his time waiting. We all went down the slide and it was just as good the second time around. We splashed around in the wave pool for a good while enjoying bobbing around.

We went around the lazy river again, trying unsuccessfully to avoid the icy water. Before we headed to the lockers we went down Runoff Rapids. A man at the top of the double ride was going to go before his kids but the CM said he was not able to go down on his own. I offered to go down before his girls and make sure they get out the water safely. I think they were all pleased and his girls made it down safely and in fits of giggles. We also enjoyed the ride although the next day Craig asked me if I had seen or heard the CM at the top shouting, ‘Where’s the snake? Did anybody see where the snake went?’ Oh my goodness, I am terrified of snakes and if I had heard that I would have pushed past everyone in the queue and jumped down the slide, raft or no raft!!

We showered and headed back to the hotel as we were off to Race Rock that evening. Craig and I took 5 in the car with us and dropped them off, then went back for the others. Elaine, my SIL was in the first lot we dropped off and said that the staff were not going to keep our table much longer but we made it in time. The restaurant is a fab place full of cool racing gear. Everybody enjoyed the atmosphere. The kids loved the them and playing on the games machines. We ordered an Onion Explosion for everyone to share and it was delicious. Craig had Southern Blackened Pepper Chicken, I had Blackened Chicken Sandwich, Holly had Pepperoni Pizza and Rowan had Chicken Dragsters. Gratuity was already added as we were a large party so the bill including soft drinks came to $57.44. It was very tasty and very good value.

Race Rock was cool

After 2 car trips home we finally got to bed around 11.30 – not sure about that early start we had planned now! Goodnight all.

Tomorrow – Epcot D-U-D-E-S!!!!

Another great day! Race Rock looks good too - shame it's closed now...

Someone else posted on here last year saying they had seen a snake at a waterpark! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

We thought Race Rock was great. I didn't realise that it has closed now

Susan

The family raft ride at Blizzard Beach is much better than the one at Typhoon Lagoon. Snakes in the waterpark? :scared1:

Sara. :)

I think I might cry - Race Rock is closed?! I love that place. Great day at BB, glad you didn't see the snake!

Laur's princess:

I love Race Rock, i had such a laugh when i ate there in 2004. Shame its closed.

Lovely busy day. I did smile when you said your hubbie said no point in waiting to go down Summit Plummet as the weather was changing, made me think it was an excuse. There is no chance of getting me on that slide at all.:)
