This isn't right

You know, I think the fact that VMK is taking the trouble to hand out costumes for free rather than paying a fortune is fantastic!! And even if you are out of town this weekend, every city has a public library with internet access. It only takes about 5 or 10 minutes to run throw the room. And it's FREE! :yay:

I agree about them not being able to trade. :thumbsup2 I have a feeling they will be sold in the future though. ;) This did not appear to be the point of the thread to me though. It focused on not getting enough notice, etc. :confused3
My problem is that because they are not tradable, there was not enough notice. If they were tradable, then we didn't need more notice.
But we needed more notice because they are not tradable.

That is my whole point. And I'm here getting the suit. But, I can see what people's problem with this is.

And yes, people in VMK this weekend may be enjoying the event. But that's because they are in vmk to enjoy it and get the costume. I ran accross several people in vmk yesterday that were upset that they missed the chance to get the top but could get the bottoms. So not all in vmk are completely enjoying it.

I think the suits and mask should be able to be traded. Maybe in time they will. However, I'm thrilled that the event is running so smoothly and they are giving these away for free. As far as that goes, I guess everything in vmk in a-round-about way is free. I agree with Nikkibell that too often we are having our lives revolve around VMK. I know I have to remind both myself and my son that it is just a game from time to time. It's not like we can take inferno with us the day that VMK decides to pull its plug.

I seen that according to the calendar of events that this was villians MONTH and I seen that the costumes were shown on the home page and knowing how vmk is always changing things....I was prepared for anything this month....I now have the complete costume.....maybe that is what others should do....prepare themselves for anything since we dont know what vmk intentions are and they change from moment to moment................maybe that is vmk's real intention, to keep you coming back...I know I do!! lol

Nikki- I have to agree- this has been one of the smoothest events run - no long lines- easy in and out- I think I did my entire family and a few mules this morning (all one at a time) in less than 30 minutes- and did credit runs on some too- my poor mules can no longer say I never let them keep anything lol- if all this stays where you can not trade it at least ;) .

About the only people I feel sorry for are those kids who are seriously limited to computer time- because their parents actually want them to have a life- and some may not be able to go on each of the days... I do know there are some adults in the same boat- and although I understand that too- well they are adults and should understand that sometimes you just can't have everything...

I do hope they at least sell the masks later- that way everyone who missed this weekend can have a full outfit later for green or other colors...

But I have to say I do like the low to no stress level for this event.

I personally disagree. For every other event VMK has given up to a week's notice and this is no different. It is a shame that many think they should plan their weeks around VMK's schedule. I have said this before and will say it again...if this is the case, then one should consider a serious break from the game. Yes, it is a game, and no, I am not lecturing. I am merely sharing my opinions. ;)

I think that this event is being very well run. The line and queue issue that was complained about since the summer is no longer a problem. The fact that new items cost so much is not a problem for the hero suits either as they are being *GIVEN* away for *FREE*. The theme is cute and the best they could work with technology-wise for now. I think everything is going very smoothly. :woohoo:

I have talked to a large mass of players in regards to how their fun is going on VMK. Not one complained about this event. In fact, they were overwhelmingly grateful and enjoying themselves. :Pinkbounc

This is what VMK is all about; entertainment. :surfweb: It is an avenue to use when time needs to be passed, not a medium to budget time around. I feel that they are doing a great job with this event, listened to both the positive and negative remarks about past events and activities in planning for it, and are doing very well. I definitely have no problems here. :thumbsup2

Still, if you feel a longer notice should be displayed in regards to events and other special activities, I would recommend using the "Contact Us" link on the bottom of the VMK Home Page. This will allow your suggestion to be taken into light instead of just stirring up the fire :stir: on the DIS.

Well said Nikki. I think this sums up everything I might have said about this issue. Even the problems with getting in a queue line have been well handled this weekend.

As for planning your life at VMK. I'll be out of town next weekend and will probably miss parts of the "big" event being held. Many of my Zeta sisters have offered to help me with anything I miss during the weekend event even to the point of logging on my main and a few of my mules. If you have made good friends here, they are willing to help you out. If you haven't, then perhaps you need to work on your socialization skills.

Have a Disney Day :)

I just want to bring to everyone's attention all the threads last week about how expensive the Green Hero Outfit was and all the begging that we saw all over in VMK. They decided to give the most popular color to kids for ***FREE*** and here we go again complaining. I think the reason behind some of the complains is that some people are just not happy since it appears they can not make a profit trading an item VMK so graciously gave out for ***FREE***. I had plans for the past three days and hardly have been on my computer or VMK. The event was on Friday for 6 hours, Saturday for 11 hours and today for 11 hours that was enough time for me personally to be able to do both. Last night at the time I logged in to get my pants the queue was one mickey. And there is VMK central in both WDW and Disneyland. And I saw people using the VMK central computer to log in and get their pants yesterday. Just like people who were not in Disney and made plans to get on their computer for a period of time to get the items they wanted so did people who were on vacation in Disney.
It seems to me the more VMK does the more complains there is. The funny thing is that the children who have limited time on VMK seem to be very happy and proud that they were able to get a costume by themselves or part of the costume. I have listened to someone in here and have decided of making real time for those children who have very limited credit and items and are just happy that there is a free website they can go to and have fun and make friends and play games, and I feel that was the VMK intend to give those children a chance of having an item that they could not get on their own.

I completely agree with you!! And why should VMK have to give us notice about anything????!!!!!! Nobody complains that holiday pins are only on sale for one day and we have no notice that they will be in stores.

And I know that several people asked a mod to log in and get their items because they could not. I think this is about not being able to trade.

It's a game. It's free. Have fun being able to play in a virtual Disney!!!!

I totally agree. :)

Not to mention the numerous times items and games were run without notice...should we complain about those?

Hold up... honestly here...everybody raise there hand please for this question...

How many of us... are going to strut around the kingdom in our lovely purple spandex tights and our umpa lumpa tops?

* waiting *

Answer yourself honestly... because I personally can't sit here and say "omg yes... omg yes... did you see what it does to my figure!?"

Let me see if I can elaborate on the idea a little more...

I'm sure most of us have the majority of costume items... me included...
would anybody guess that Irishhockey had 3 sets of full dresses as welll as matching tiaras (I dont like calling them crowns)? Yes... that is correct... Irish has dreams of being a pretty pretty princess with a matching my little pony. It would never be suspected though... its the same cargo shorts.. the same flips... the same backwards green cap.

NOW...
A) You cant trade this...
Not like you can bargain a few off to get some other things...
B) Its not exactly the "most attractive" costume to streak around the kingdom in...
Although I love seeing the boys sport those tights...
C) It's not like you dropped half your credit total for the costume...
Kind of like the game itself huh?

So why put so much on something so little?

Don't have a peice? No biggie... deep breath... watch Dr. Phil if you need to make youself feel better about it all...

Do I have a full purple super hero costume? Yes... Yes I do...
Is this something I would have planned my weekend around? No... Not at all

In fact to me it seems wasteful... not going to wear it... and I can not trade it... so whats the point? At least give me something that I can benefit from. Saying "I have both superhero costumes" does nothing for my vmk rep or even my figure...

I would like to set the record straight here I did NOT log in to anyone account to get items for them. That is against VMK rules and I, myself, would not feel comfortable about doing that for even my closest friends let alone other board members.

I would also like to comment on a couple of things...these are not directed at anyone just general comments.

I too feel that making this item not tradeable is unfair not because I am a BIG trader I am not you could count the number of times I have traded on one hand.

I have seen numerous characters today(probably all children) very upset that they had missed some of the costume some did not even know the even was going on.....don't forget alot of players are children and do not read the home page that often.

YOu can say I am complaining if you like but it is not so much of a complaint as it is a critique of what I think was poor judgment on the part of VMK.

Yes I am happy the costume was free yes I was able to get on and get the whole thing for me, DS and most of my characters.

But that still does not make it right when some poor child a day, a week or a month from now would like to have a purple hero suit only to be told sorry they were given out whenever and are not tradeable. I do not like to see anyone sad over something that VMK could so easily made tradeable.

While I think this event has gone much more smoothly than most it is because of this far from perfect.

JMHO

I believe that these pieces of the costume, like everything else in VMK, will become readily available again. I am not concerned about a child who is disappointed in not having one for that reason. They also will learn a valuable life lesson --- you cannot possibly have everything you want. Likewise, good things happen to those who wait. :)

I agree. I teach fifth grade and believe it is important for children to understand that 100% of everything they want, cannot be had. Besides, most items have been re-released so they probably will do this with the costume.

I just wanted to echo Mal that I did not do this for anyone. The only log in information I am comfortable with knowing is my own and my kids. I wish there had been another way to help, but sharing this information with anyone is not something I would encourage.

Lori

Sorry Mal & Lori, I didn't mean to imply that you had logged in, I saw that some people were asking very trustworthy people (including mods) to help them. Obviously you all told them that it would be against the rules. Hopefully they found a public library and got one themselves..

VMK is a game not a place to be learning lifes lessons in my opinion it a place to let loose and have fun for young and old alike and I have already seen the disappointment today.

I would have if I was able to given away several pieces of this costume!

But hey again this is just my opinion.

I think a lot of toke what some of us said wrong. None of us was complaing really about the event itself. I was not anyways.

Im happy vmk is giving something free and the event is running great since i was able to get the pants and mask.
Im just upset for I was at a hospital for 15 hours with my sister. I did not have access to a computer, I did not have anyone to contact on here such as friends to log on for me. My sister went into labor tuesday, had the baby wednesday went home friday morning and had to go back due to she broke out and was not about to breath all because of a medication they gave her.

Sorry if everyones comment on "Complaining" was not againt me or most of the people here. Just some of us cant sit home all day on the computer for these one day events. :confused3 my only complaint is its not tradable.. I dont want lots of them, just one solid suit for myself.

I concur with both of these ladies.

This game is geared towards children. Yes, it's mainly so that they can bug the heck out of their parents to go to the parks. But it is still game meant for them.
It should not be about disappointment for anyone. Let alone the children.
The event has been run very smoothly. Except for the fact that it is non tradable. And as LittleRydia said, not everyone can get away from things that are very important to get to a computer and log into vmk.
I do consider myself lucky enough to get multiples of the entire costume. But it's only a very small amount that I can count on one hand. I'm not concerned about making a "profit" off of them if they were tradable. I have gifted children or made "bad" trades to people to give them pieces of costumes. I don't scream it out loud on the forums every time I do it either. And I certainly don't expect them to post about it in the RAOK thread either. Seeing people happy makes me happy enough.

And there is no telling if they will re-release this costume or not. Six months later, they have yet to re-release the HM, Blue Princess Dress & Yellow Explorer costumes. They also have not re-released the Cowboy or Native American costumes since then either (even though they had been available before).

Yes, I too believe that a child should be taught that they can't have everything they want. But that is up to the parents to teach their child. Not a free online game geared towards them.
I will be contacting VMK and asking them to at least make them tradable. Not for myself, but for others who were not able to get pieces or all of the costume this weekend.

AMEN! I don't expect Disney and certianly not VMK to teach my child any morals or life lessons.

I can't believe someone even intimated such a thing.

I started this thread to have a debate but people seem to be taking it personally. Why can't we discuss something we like or dislike about VMK without getting lectured about what kids do and do not need to learn or how we need to not play or any of the other personal stuff?

I am sorry but we need to remember that VMK is run like a business. There are paid employees and we are in fact customers. We night not pay for VMK but it does not negate the fact that it is a money making enterprise. Disney does nothing for free, you just need a visit to one of the parks to know that lol!

What do you all think that Kelloggs paid for the association? What about production part of Disney that put out Herbie?

It is really too bad that we can't have a open discussion without bring child morality into it :rotfl2:
