I know the changes disney has made have people upset. I am new to all this and have been a lurker for years. In life everyone has to adjust, things change. I have a small 100 pt contract at AKV so I dont have a lot to work with but I will with a smile on my face cause' it is the only place I can go and truly relax.. I know that the CM's do everything they can, The chefs prepare special food apon request for my son It is the only place I can go that adjusts to my every need when I am a guest at a resort, when my son has a melt down on a ride/movie, they adjust to his needs. My daughter never feels left behind they always make her feel like a princess: I can never thank disney enough! I have attached a thread, Please read, It is why I bought DVC and why I will always Love Disney!:grouphug:

I'm still happy with my DVC, too, in spite of the changes announced this week. I always knew that Disney had the power in DVC and I still think it is a good value for my family. In fact we just bought 200 points at VGC that will be processed tomorrow. :goodvibes

Since joining DVC in January of 2007, we've stayed 3 nights at the GC in a standard room, 6 nights at WLV in a 2 bedroom, 3 nights in 2 rooms GC concierge, and just booked 3 nights at WLV and 4 nights AKV in a 2 bedroom for Christmas 2009. Now, we get another DL trip out of our APs because of developers points. And I got all of trips with just 260 points.

I'm glad that there is someone else out there who is still happy with their DVC because lately it doesn't seem like anyone else on these boards is but this too shall pass. ;)

We love Disney too!

As a new member, you will probably not even notice the difference in the points charts. (It will always be that way - unless Disney changes again!)

We have 100 Boardwalk points and are amazed at how often we get to go to WDW now. We do stay in studios alot in the off season.

My sister has really bad back problems and was delighted that Disney was so accomodating to her use of a scooter 2 years ago.

Don't let the naysayers get you down!!!

We love Disney and DVC too!

I am pleased with the change. It is good that Disney is strategically managing DVC to maximize the revenue. Some of our trips will cost more, some less. Overall it will be less, bit not much as we only have 150 points. It would be the same if we were staying in a hotel or going anywhere else.

I'll chime in too. I love DVC because I'm pre paying for the room portion of my vacations for the rest of my life. I have faith that Disney porperties will always be well maintained and that the company will continue in any economy.
I feel very lucky to be able to swing any points and the new promotions don't bother me..I'm happy for those people who are getting a great vacation because of the 4/3 promotion.
I knew they could mess around with the points some..I'll cope. I like the new resvations system because it just makes more sense and the new waitlist rules also make more sense from a business standpoint.
Happy to be a member!

While I am not happy with the new changes.....and I am nervous about the new changes that might come.......

I LOVE DISNEY WITH ALL OF MY HEART.

Thanks so much OP for posting that link....It brough tears to my eyes and reminded me of why Disney is so special to me....and all of us::yes::

:cheer2: :cheer2: I still love our DVC, and will continue using it the same way I have in the past. We have never 'moved' for weekends, so the new point system is good for us. Actually stays overall will be about the same number of points for us.

An OT question...you mention all of the changes this week. Are we talking about the new point charts and the waitlist policy change?

I love Disney so much, and for me the DVC is an investment... it will still benefit us in the long run. I do believe in all the magic and heart that it has. Thank you so much for that thread... I am just blown away by the Turtle Talk with Crush story.
Thank you and congratulations neighbor... We bought 100 for AKL in Dec 08 too :)

We have a trip planned in 35 (yeah) days. We are bringing down extended family and if we paid the rack rate it would cost $12,000. We never would do something like that if we didn't have the DVC.

The points went up 2 points for our normal trip. Not too big a deal to us.

I was impacted, but that's okay...I'm still drinking the kool-aid!!! :lmao:

All kidding aside, Disney is going to need to make unpopular decisions to keep DVC profitable and thriving. Some things will impact us negatively, other things will be of benefit.

If I could offer advice to Dis...it's not always as much about WHAT you do, as it is about HOW you do it. They don't owe us an explanation on every move they make, but a little goes a long way when there are valid business reasons to do so. We all want DVC to be successful, and love the options it brings to us.

Buckeye Fan: We are new to DVC so not sure about what has changed over the last few years. But I agree with your point.. While we don't know what the impact of the economic downturn will be, I hope we all will come out of these problems stronger. I think as it impacts Disney I am looking at a long term view. Financially, hopefully, our investment will payoff over the next several years. Emotionally, some of our fondest memories with family and friends have been with Disney. For now at least, the Kool-Aid tastes pretty good.:goodvibes

Glad to hear a 100 point owner is still happy!

(I am still waiting for a 100 poit owner to complain that thy are now a few points short and cannot upgrade with less than 60 points)

WOW....A Postive Thread....they still do exist.:cool1:

Actually, i do see a few out there now...and it is a nice feeling to see them.

Reality dictates that every vacation point of interest will have to go through changes. Disney is no different. Expecting things to stay the same is asking for discouragment and dissapointment.

I am so happy to hear a positive thread - especially being a newbie to DVC.

What a lovely thread! Not only the Disney company deserves credit, but the parent or parents of these CMs surely did a wonderful job!

From reading all the complaint threads regarding the 2010 point charts, I realized that we bought our points using a completely different set of criteria.

We were never an every year Disney family, so when we bought in 2007, we bought the number of points we could afford, which was the minimum 160. Since then we were able to vacation in a 2br at HHI for Labor Day weekend in 2008 and we're planning another long weekend at AKV in another 2br in October 2009 and we'll still have points left over to bank for 2010. I keep thinking that one of these days we'll not have enough points to do what we want to do but so far it hasn't happened yet and we've had a "Disney" vacation every year.

It just seems that so many people bought with the "we will take this exact vacation every year so we will need X number of points." There's nothing wrong with that, but since we were warned about the possibility of point adjustments from year to year, we didn't look at the points charts too closely. We'll take our points and use them however we can, and we'll be happy since we'll be able to take a vacation once a year. Some years that vacation may be longer, some years it may be shorter, but at least we get to spend the time together as a family!

I'm a new member, too. I just had a wonderful trip with my parents (who are both 84) and 2 adult children. We stayed in a 2 BR at SSR...it was SOOOOO much better than the 5 of us in one room at CR, which is where we've normally stayed. Originally, my DH was supposed to go with us, and there is NO WAY we would have done 2 rooms at CR.:scared: So far...I really wish we had bought DVC a couple years ago. We're in those in-between years where the kids are grown, not all completely gone yet, and there aren't any grandchildren. I foresee that changing.;) We'll have wonderful trips to look forward to at a reasonable price.

Thanks OP for bringing back the perspective of why some of us purchased in the first place and bring back the magic to the boards.
I love going to Disney, and I love hearing about others that have a magical time there.
The fact that I have the opportunity to go into beautiful villas that are just steps from the parks it's absolutely amazing to me, no matter how many times I go.
Things have changed, and yes, even the quality of the services you get at the parks, but it still is a great place to vacation with your family, specially like in my case that we have pre-schoolers and seeing their little faces so happy when we get there...
DVC and Disney World Parks and Resorts will keep adjusting to make business profitable, and the only thing they promised it won't change in your contract is the number of points you have every year and the number of points total in the resort. The rest: priority reservation window, ability to trade into other resorts, points needed by night/season, ability to bank/borrow, reservation guidelines, perks and benefits... all of that can change and it is said so in your contract.
