One of my doxie babies, George, has had some health problems over the past month, and yesterday the vet told me they think it's lung cancer. I'm taking him to a vet specialist this week to see if there's anything we can do. George is such a wonderful dog, and has an "old shoe" personality. He's the 3rd from the left in the photo...He always looks like he's smiling when I take photos of him. Prayers and pixie dust from my Dis friends would be appreciated. This is so tough.....

UPDATE! George saw the vet internist, and no cancer! :thumbsup2 He does have an enlarged heart, but the vet said that isn't near as serious as the lung cancer diagnosis. I'm just happy he's not going anywhere anytime soon - More time to spoil him! :goodvibes

2/24/11 - SAD UPDATE- We had to give George a peaceful goodbye today. He took a horrible turn for the worse yesterday, and he was really struggling to breathe last night and today. The vet told us that he was suffering. It was very peaceful, and my DH and I got to give him a loving goodbye, but this is SO much harder than I thought it would be. Even though I came home to my other three furry babies, there will always be an empty spot that George left behind. He was a wonderful dog and friend. :sad1:

Hugs for you and your baby. We have two dogs. Our oldest, a mini schnauzer has alot of health problems. She has a terrible skin condition where she has cysts and boils on her back all the time. They look terrible. She has seizures. And in the past year she has developed a heart murmur that the vet says is rated at 5.5 with 6 being the worst.
She just turned 5.

It is hard to see them not feeling well. I hope something can be done for your little doggie. They are just an extra part of our family.

I am so sorry about your baby! My parents used to own a kennel and we raised doxies for most of my life. I had one mini red baby myself - Annie. She was born when I was in 4th grade and died when I was in college. We grew up together and I have never owned a dog since. My parents had dogs after her, but I never had one of my own. It's so hard. I had started raising and breeding Siamese cats myself and now have 3. 2 of them are from a line that I have had for 30 years. I no longer do it, but I have owned 5 generations of this family of cats and I keep saying when they pass - that's it. When they get sick it is literally devastating for me. I don't have kids - so these girls are like my own. One is 15, her daughter 11, and the non-related one is 7. I hope your baby is ok and that you are ok as well. Pixie dust your way :wizard:

Pixie dust being sent your way..

I know how you feel, Our Rosie has been diagnosed with early Kidney disease, we are heart broken and another diser has helped me fine a vet that will specialize in this condition...so diser unite in all things...my thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry, and hope they can do something for the old guy...

All of your doxies are just gorgeous.

My sympathies go out to you. We have two beagles that are starting to get up there in years and we have had them since our daughter was 5 years old. I don't look forward to their health declining.

BTW...my dad's doxie (Trudy) looks just like the 2nd from the left. His is a miniature.

I'm so sorry...

I have two dogs now and I've always said this is the only bad thing about having animals in your life. Their life spans are just so short. I've got two big dogs now and my Rhodesian Ridgeback is only five and he's already getting gray hairs on his chin and I'm already stressing out about him getting older....

My thoughts and prayers are with you and George. He really does have a WONDERFUL smile!! :)

Thoughts and prayers to you, George and the rest of your family.

This past year, I lost my beautiful kitty, Duchess, to lung cancer.

And on June 30, my baby, my beautiful doggie of 19 years, Pepita.

Prior to that, my man-cat, Winston, at the age of 11 - diabetes.

Now it's just little Pumpkin, 9-year old calico. Sweet angel.

It is very hard. But the good times outweigh the bad.

Oh, I am so sorry. I hate that and my heart aches for you. We had to unexpectedly put our Doxie Freddie to sleep last January and I miss him everyday. Feel free to use me for support!

Thank you for all the kind words and prayers. I took him to the emergency vet early this morning because he was having trouble breathing. They did their own x-rays, and they came up with a completely different diagnosis...They said it's a very enlarged heart. How one vet said it's lung cancer and another one say it's an enlarged heart, I have no idea. This vet didn't paint me a rosey picture either. Once George was up and off his chest, he breathed a little easier. Hopefully the vet specialist will get him in quick this week so we know what's going on. In the meantime, George is getting good and spoiled. Thanks again for all the support.

Heart is better than cancer. It sounds like time to see a specialist.
