This is us..

I'm trying to decide whether Toby's health crisis will push Kate to do the weight loss surgery or drive her to losing the weight without the surgery. I didn't really care for Toby until tonight and then WHAM! I don't think he is going to die...or at least I really hope that he isn't.

William's story surprised me because we saw no indication that he had someone in his life and also because it seems a little out of character for him to have just left like that. But I like that they are adding more dimension to him in the present day.
I think it will help her push without the surgery, since he committed to do it with her.

The whole guy jumping thing was weird. Didn't really have anything to do with the plot.

I think it had to do with what Dr. K. asked of Randall when he was young. When Randall brought him the snow globe and thanked him for bringing their family together, Dr. K. said if he ever had the chance to help someone else, he should do it, and that was all the thanks he needed. I think this was Randall's chance to help.

I was completely floored by this episode!! I had no idea it was Toby who was going to end up in the hospital!

I didn't see William's backstory coming, but I think it was cute and spot on for the kid to just be so matter of fact about it.

And I think I like Sloane as a match for Kevin.

Oh, and one more thing - how perfect was it for Kevin to keep holding Kate's hand down the hall when she was going into surgery! And later (walking in the hospital to go pray?) he seemed to be holding his side just where she was being operated on. They are really including the "twin connection" in the little details!

I noticed the side holding also, so sweet.

I noticed that, too!

As to another little thing. There was something that Rebecca said or how she reacted when she and Kate were in with the doctor that seemed not quite right like some were wondering about her when she was talking with Kevin during the walk and seemed a little out of it. I can't remember what, though. It wasn't that she answered about Kate not bingeing. It was before that. I guess I'll have to go back to re-watch. I don't know if was anything or not, just that I felt something a little off during the scene.

This is a show that you need to watch fully and focus on or you will miss a lot of subtle details.

I really liked this episode but it didn't make me cry like most of the others have. I was shocked by the ending with Toby! I didn't see William's story twist coming either, not because it would seem out of character for him to be gay, but because it does seem out of character for him to leave his partner like that. He even took the bus back to visit his cat for crying out loud. But, I think we will probably learn more about why this happened.

I also think Olivia will be back and there might be a love triangle forming there with she and Kevin and Sloane.

Looking forward to the new shows after the break!

I think that's why it felt to me like it was just thrown in there and didn't ring true.

Hmm, I dunno, I don't think William leaving is all that out of character. He left a baby at a fire station for what he felt were the right reasons. Really, this is just history repeating itself. Crisis: Randall's mother dying/a cancer diagnosis >Fear: What do I do with a baby/I'm going to die > Runs for "their sake." He admits to Jessie (?) that he really did it for his own self preservation. William might be redeemed but he's still flawed, he's human. It's not like he gave Randall up and became an upstanding guy immediately, he was still a drug addict for several years after that. It's been my experience in life that people tend toward what they know when crisis hits even if it isn't the right thing.

I could maybe buy him running. But they didn't show him even thinking about Jessie since he left. I think he might run, but would be thinking about him, much like he was thinking about the baby he gave up. I think the whole thing was poorly set up and looked like it just got plopped in there.

I don't necessarily disagree. I thought the whole episode was out of sorts last night. I just don't find it surprising at all for him to walk out on the guy.

In the cabin episode, didn't Sloan say her sister was having a baby? Was it the sister we saw at dinner? Was there a baby there and I missed it?

I thought the same thing, but then I just wrote it off in my head about it being another sister. Wasn't the sister with the newborn in upstate New York? And it seemed like maybe they were relatively close to the city at the Hanukkah dinner. Not sure...

The question before the bingeing question had to do with whether she ever took anti-depressants. And then Rebecca spoke for her with 'no' like how would she know what her adult daughter takes anyway. Is that what you're thinking about?

So, last night is the closest I came to crying. I got teary with the Toby scene. When he stood up and looked sweaty, I just knew it... I really hope they don't kill him off -- I don't think they will.

The Andy guy definitely didn't jump. Randall caught a glimpse of him going back into the party. That was a stressful scene, though.

William... When he was at the AA/NA meeting and his boyfriend was giving his speech, I was so confused because I couldn't understand why the writers/producers were giving this random person so much dialogue, but then when I saw William's face, it clicked what was going on. I think we'll see a deep bond/friendship/love over the next few months with them, so we can feel even more sad when they kill him off the last episode of the season (just guessing that's what will happen).

Kevin... I think he and Sloane are cute together and they'll probably get even closer, but I guarantee that Olivia will come back into the picture and Sloane will wind up getting hurt even though it's just a casual relationship right now.

Kate... Doesn't she still live in L.A.? If so, why the surgery consultation (and surgery?) out there? Wouldn't she have that done at home? Doesn't she have a job in L.A. as Jamie Gertz's character's assistant?

Since her entire family is in NY now, I would think she would have the surgery there, so they can be there if she needs them.

I doubt Kate will have the surgery on the show. I read her contract says she has to lose weight but gastric bypass makes you lose weight very quickly. I think she would only have the surgery on the show if she has the surgery in real life or they make it to where surgery fails.
