This is us..

Has anyone else considered that thru all of Williams medical testing we may find out that William is not really Randall's bio dad after all? Maybe William will need blood and when Randall goes to donate...... Oops! Nope he's not your dad!! William of course thinks he is Randall's father but Randall's mom was a drug addict and another man may be Randall's bio father.

I hope they don't do that LOL! I don't think they would go that route, not after all the back story with him and Rebecca's meeting when Randall was a child etc.

I wondered who the black woman was in the family picture. Was it the woman they met at the pool?

Yes, I was just about to post that, as I just watched it last night. So did she somehow basically become part of their family? -Even more odd to me, was that her own son wasn't in the picture. Also, just because I think it's interesting...she's the real life wife of the actor who plays Randall. When he was on Army Wives she played a small role as well.

I've had a lot on my mind the last week or so and must not have been watching this episode very carefully. Who's this lady in the family picture we're talking about? And if I'm correct - there was no "big reveal" moment at the end of this episode, was there? I've loved that on the previous episodes! Please fill me in if I've missed something because I'm unlikely to have a chance to re-watch it. Also, why all the hate for Toby? It's Kate's character I'm starting to find a little lothesome. Granted, I've never experienced deep-seated, life-long insecurities like hers, but really - do they have to completely define her? Her character will get pretty boring if it doesn't start developing in a different direction.

I think the woman in the photo at the end was the big reveal. She is the woman who was at the pool, it looks like she may have become close to the family. I don't hate Toby, there's just something there that bugs me about him. I'm hoping Kate will start developing a sense of self worth and push back with him. Maybe that's where all this is leading with the two of them.

At the end, the camera zoomed in on a family photo of Rebecca, Jack, and their three kids. Standing on the end smiling with her arm around the kids was the woman from the pool who told Rebecca to find a barber who can cut Randalls hair properly. It wasn't really a big reveal, just a "huh?" moment, makes you wonder what happens as she obviously becomes close with the family. In an interview, they said there will not be a big reveal every episode. You really have to watch closely or you will miss little things it seems.

Not sure why everyone hates Toby, I like him. I think he is trying to help Kate see she more than just a fat girl. She is funny, beautiful, and meaningful to him. His approach may be a little abrupt at times, but I think he his trying to get through to her because at times she seems to not believe what he tells her, and it probably frustrates him.

I don't think they'll reveal that William isn't Randall's father. I think he is, in fact, Randall's bio-dad. Remember when William met Randall's bio-mom, they both had their acts together--he was writing his poetry, she was dressed fashionably. It wasn't until later that they spiraled down with the drugs.

Of course, this could be wishful thinking on my part--I really like both characters. I know I'm going to sob like a baby when William dies (and you know that's coming).

I think this show does a wonderful job of capturing real life--you're laughing one minute, crying the next, and most of us can relate to a trait or two in every character.

Has anyone seen the commercial for the upcoming episode? I just saw it for the first time and I have a question. Kate says something and then Toby says I'd like to meet him sometime and then Kate says ok. What did Kate say? This snippet leads me to believe that Jack is still alive and that Kate is nervous to see him. Maybe Jack turned into a homeless drunk or something...

I noticed that also and even rewound the commercial. Unless she didn't tell him he died? The mother still wears the necklace which leads me to believe he died. If they divorced wouldn't she not wear the necklace?

Some of believe the necklace for the child they lost.

I wonder if the lady at the pool. Isn't somehow related to Randall maybe on his mother side. That why she so feels the need to watch him and guide her and how to take care of him.

I liked Toby's joke at the gym when she was wanting to keep exercising and moaning about him losing and not her. He very tongue in cheek said "I think I just take it more seriously than you do." I cracked up. She is very focused and his character probably just is trying to lighten things up with her and help her see things in perspective. Weight loss takes time and many of us women can attest to the fact that the men often seem to lose faster and easier, especially at the start. I don't see her sabotaging her. ??? It looks like he is supporting her with exercising and eating well with her.

I haven't seen that commercial. Is that for next week or sometime later in the season? Maybe he is alive...that could lead to some interesting story lines. Or maybe they've pieced the commercial together in such a way that it will be different in context. I can't wait for the next episode. This show is my new favorite. I hope that it continues to be as good. I don't need twists and big moments every episode because it does the little moments so well, too.

I love this show!

I saw the commercial too, I'm 90% sure she says she watches football with her dad, then he says I'd like to meet him sometime, but I could be wrong. Then it said where is Jack accross the screen, so I do think it will be somewhat addressed this week, if not fully addressed.

I just thought of something. Could he be in a long-term care facility with a severe TBI from an accident while he was DWI? Since she said that she watches football with him, maybe that's about all she can do with him. That would be so sad. I guess we may know a little more tomorrow...

UI keep reading Justin Hartley (Kevin) is returning to a soap opera. I wonder what that means for his character on this show.

I didn't think of that, could be. But I think Rebecca would still be with him. I don't know if she would divorce him and marry his friend while he was still alive in a long term care facility. All the "till death do us part" stuff.

I was thinking a similar thing, Alzheimer's or an accident or something of that nature...

I had to go back and look at the photo after reading the thread. At the end of the episode, when they are all lying together on the lounge chairs at the pool, Jack mentions wanting to have another child. I thought it was another child in the photo, but you all are right, Randall is younger in the photo, and it looks more like the woman at the pool than another child.

We also see in next week's preview, before the kids, where Rebecca is telling Jack she doesn't want children. It will be interesting to see how she ends up pregnant with triplets, and if him wanting more afterwards causes marital strife.

Sorry... I've been lurking!! However, this got me thinking.... what if WILLIAM doesn't even know that he isn't Randalls father?!! What if Randall's biological mother was 'with' more than 1 man at the same time?!!
