This is Us- Season six

I think ultimately the stress of caring for a special needs child will be the reason the Kate and Toby's marriage fails. Although there are various smaller issues with each of them contributing, they might have made it without that extra layer of stress.

And like others have said, the actor playing little Jack is just the cutest thing ever.

I look forward to the remaining episodes, but dread them as well. I hope there's some happy stuff coming to lift the heavy nature of what we've seen so far, and what we know is coming.

Not sure if I'm really buying the Senate thing. City Council to Senate is a giant leap.

I never taught my kids how to open the door at Jack's age, but then again they were sighted, they could just see how I did it. Both Toby and Kate dropped the ball with the gate and the front door, but how many times did we as parents do something similar and were just lucky nothing happened. People are human and make mistakes, I think this episode showed that well.

Could be County or state senate, not federal level

This episode had my wife and I both crying. Just how easy it is to have one tiny lapse, ESPECIALLY when you're a tired parent, and then praying you're lucky enough to be able to look back on it and see how bad it COULD have been, versus seeing that outcome firsthand. We had a similar incident happen a couple of months ago. We were visiting my in-laws, and my son had just learned how to climb stairs. She thought a baby gate was latched (same type, even) but it wasn't. I was upstairs working. I heard a thud, and some crying, and then it stopped and I figured she was tending to him. Then it happened again. I went out to see what was going on, and there's my son laying on his back, whimpering, at the foot of the stairs. He had gotten through the gate and was trying to come upstairs, bless his heart. She was in the bathroom. Thank GOD he wasn't badly hurt. We were both so shaken. And jeez, in that fear response, it's SO HARD not to lash out at your spouse, because you're freaking out and so scared of what almost happened, and they were supposed to be in charge... I can totally see how it all went down. There but for the grace of God, as they say.

We watched this last night and I looked over at our front door and said "So about that chain lock we were going to install... we should do that." :D

But what really moved me to tears was Rebecca figuring it out. My dad just passed of Alzheimer's, and it was nice to see her have that moment, and see her mom instincts carry the day. And it was so easy to put ourselves in her shoes, and that overwhelming since of relief... uggggh. Kleenex central.

In terms of Kate and Toby... I know Toby was 'hiding out' in the backyard, but honestly Kate was SO mean to him the whole episode leading up to that. I mean, "Toby, C'MON, my 70 year old mother is lifting this mattress!" It's just so cringe. She's obviously over him. I honestly think that she is more checked out of the marriage at this point, and has been for awhile. I've never gotten the sense that she missed Toby as he was working away, just that she didn't like the inconvenience of not having him there.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I thought Kate was particularly harsh in her criticisms of Toby. I get she was stressed and the pipe burst, but dang, it was chaos and she was yelling at him to DO SOMETHING while he was holding Jack and it was unnerving seeing that. I get that he didn't make sure the gate clicked but, heck, the way she was barking at him would have anyone in a state.

I agree with you. Home and car repairs are two situations that stress us out to the max. It takes a lot of self control not to blow up at your partner in those moments, but it felt to me like she was gunning for Toby from the minute she saw the water drip.

I think Kate was harsh, but I also understand it. She feels like she’s dealing with it all - the kids, the house repairs, etc while Toby is getting to be the fun “weekend dad”. That’s not the reality of course, but I do understand her getting snappy if everybody else is helping out and he’s happily grilling outside. It’s not that he’s doing something unimportant, but it’s not the most important thing in this emergency situation. They are also at a point in their marriage that they’re not seeing the good and only seeing each other’s flaws.

Have they shown how Rebecca and Miguel get together? I know that not long ago they showed Miguel saying he was leaving for Houston and Rebecca crying but have we seen what happened next? Maybe I missed it somewhere.

You are not alone.

But then again I have felt she has always been hard on Toby. I am sure we are all guilty of "taking it out" on your spouse, but Kate has always rubbed me the wrong way about this. She doesn't want to see the other persons side. Idk, just my 2 cents.

It took a series of events to cause little Jack to venture out alone. It wasn't all Toby's fault, but she still blamed him. And with the mattress? How did he know Rebecca was trying to pick it up? He was taking care of Jack. Ugh! And the brothers intervening on the argument? No, just no. NO! Hated that scene. No doubt, I am Team Toby ... but that is nothing new as I always have been.

But oh little Jack, he is too cute. I loved hearing his voice, "muddy puddles!"

No. They have not shown that yet.

I wish I wasn't the one to say this but maybe it hits too close to home.

Kate confessed that she left the door unlocked to Toby. That takes enormous trust and vulnerability to admit that. She didn't have to and he would have never been the wiser. Toby later turned it on Kate. "The door you taught him to open. Who does that with a sighted toddler, let alone a blind child?"

More of Toby's comments from The Fight:
"Maybe I would have heard the click if you weren't yelling all the time"

"Okay you need to sleep"

"You are losing your mind right now."

If you are not familiar with this type of emotional abuse, it is a classic example of gaslighting. So difficult to watch. Getting off my soapbox now. Kate needs to leave him sooner than later

I also thought Kate was rough on Toby. It wasn't like he was sitting around watching tv drinking beer. He was cooking in the yard, watching Jack, entertaining guests, and trying to help with the water situation. He can only do so much and she was barking at him in front of everyone. Of course he was frazzled.

I loved how they showed the world from little Jack's perspective, how he sees and most importantly hears things. I think all parents should watch that so they understand how their child experiences their fighting. The actor who plays him is amazing - his little voice! I was worried they were going to have a visit from CPS for neglectful supervision after the park incident. I was hoping that since both Kate and Toby made mistakes they would forgive each other and lean on each other. I couldn't stand watching the final fight and the brothers stepping in. I am glad Rebecca figured out where he was. She needed to be helpful.

Yes! When she was telling little Jack how she didn't feel very helpful that day. Man was she wrong!

I do agree that I felt Kate was harsh to Toby as well. I think and can relate to that she has A LOT on her plate and feels alone in doing it. Then on top pf that their marriage issues, Toby last week and I just think she's exhausted physically but more so emotionally. They both are, but I agree she was much rougher around him this episode.

I also agree that it was big of Kate to tell Toby about the door, especially under the circumstances and at that point he was just as rough and cringe worthy with how he spoke to Kate. They're just in a REALLY bad place.
