The most significant reason why I think Kate was missing from the flashforward: Chrissy Metz was told, before being cast as Kate, that she would need to lose weight over time as part of the role.

This would suggest that, in the context of the flashforward, Kate has undergone a noticeable weight loss...and, therefore, they couldn't feasibly show Chrissy in the flashforward scene at this juncture during the series run.

Also, Toby and Kate could be separated...and part of their arc in the final season will be viewers seeing how they find their way back together, in the end. Sort of like Jack and Rebecca reuniting in heaven.

I think this is true. We touched upon it upthread a bit. She has already lost weight, I watched an old episode from season 1 and was surprised at how much weight she has lost since then.

If this is the case wouldn’t we not be able to have any more current time scenes with Kate ever? They can pad her if she actually does it but I don’t think they could pad her face and make it look like it does now.

Yeah I don't know how they would handle that. I did see an interview with the guy who plays Toby and he said the writers have the entire show planned and written already. They had a set number of seasons and will end after that. He said they are already shooting some scenes for the final season. My guess would be they are filming any scenes now that they need Kate for before she looses the weight (if it's true that she is in fact dropping weight for the role.) The young Kate is growing VERY quickly, so they will have to shoot scenes with her in the "past" timeline I would guess. I couldn't believe how tall she was at the awards show, almost didn't recognize her she looked more womanly than child-like. I noticed it in the finale. She is towering over young Randall and Kevin.

That could be. I have heard of actors gaining weight for roles, but not loosing weight, especially a significant amount.

My guess would be they are filming any scenes now that they need Kate for before she looses the weight (if it's true that she is in fact dropping weight for the role.) The young Kate is growing VERY quickly, so they will have to shoot scenes with her in the "past" timeline I would guess. I couldn't believe how tall she was at the awards show, almost didn't recognize her she looked more womanly than child-like. I noticed it in the finale. She is towering over young Randall and Kevin.

The actor who plays Toby wears a fat suit. I assume they will use some prosthetics for Chrissy if she needs to look fuller in some scenes

“He’s already in there.”

Assuming they are talking about Nicky, who is the only person we see in Rebecca’s room - that makes it sound to me like Nicky recently arrived at Kevin’s house, not like he has been living there. That’s not how you would phrase it for someone being in a room of a house where they live.

I agree. And it sounds like he's in there for a specific purpose.

I hadn’t seen that article either. It was a good read and had links to a lot of other articles too. I read the one with Sterling and he said he’s seen a lot of people wonder how Kevin and Zoe had a child looking like that and Sterling said it’s safe to assume that’s not the case. I didn’t think for one second that the boy was Zoe’s. I’m not even sore it’s Sophie’s. I think that’s too obvious.

He might not have had his child as a result of a relationship. Maybe he adopts or hires a surrogate.

I think I took that exchange differently because it sounds like the exchanges I have when I go to my parents' house to help with something. Say we're supposed to be meeting to do yardwork. We walk in, only Mom is around. "Where's Dad?" "He's already out there." (And then we groan and roll our eyes because he was supposed to be waiting for us to help him and he's out there doing it himself ahead of us. But that's a whole other subject! )

It could be exactly as you said. I do see it from that perspective now. Or perhaps it could just mean that he opted to wait in her room as opposed to being out in the main portion of the house where all of the activity was happening. I could seem him preferring to be away from the noise and people greeting one another and such, too. It's another somewhat vague thing for us to all talk about and puzzle over for sure.

Then I saw an episode further in and she looked like she had dropped some weight in her face and middle, but maybe not. Maybe she has lost weight and they are padding her so we won't know. It would kind of ruin the shock factor on the show if she was photographed out and about in her real life and was thin.

This is why I kinda doubt that is actually what they are doing. It would take a very long time to lose that kind of weight, and she would pretty much have to stay hidden the entire time. If she was seen during the process it would take away from the twist impact they like to go for.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I don't think it's true. Unless they hire another actress to play "thinner Kate."
