This is so sad from 2008, I found it in my old documents

The other big changes for 2008 are related to the Dining Plan options:
1. The price of the regular Dining Plan has been reduced by $1 per person per night, meaning the 2008 plan costs $37.99/adult and $9.99/child per night. However, it no longer includes gratuities or appetizers (but tax is still included). This is effectively a 15%-20% decrease in value. However, the Dining Plan remains a good deal for many people.
2. A new Deluxe Dining Plan is available for $69.99/adult and $19.99/child per night. With this new plan, each guest receives 3 meals and 2 snacks per night . You can choose from table service or counter service for each meal (so if you can eat that much food, you might as well eat all table service meals). The table service meals include appetizer, entrée, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage. "Signature Restaurants" still count as 2 table service meals with this plan. You also receive a refillable mug per person, to be used at your resort.

I remember all so well when the tip and appetizers were taken away, some said the service would be better if we chose the amount to leave ourselves to "school" the server into doing better":sad2:. WRONG O people!!! Been going back every year, on the dining plan and guess what, just as many do a crappy job with us paying out of pocket then it being included in the dining package.. I'll tell you what it was a lot less painful when a meal was less than adequate or service was poor when Disney was footing the bill.. To me, I never looked that deep into it when service wasn't great sometimes, perhaps, the server could of had a horrible day, or the were over booked or any # of reasons, this didn't concern me. Bad service is gonna happen at times and a tip at some amount has to be left, Rather petty some wanted to want to control what tip they left to let that server know they sucked that moment. Me personally it sucked a lot less when Disney paid the full 18%.... 10 table service at 30 dollars = 300 dollars,"OH yeah":confused3... Common sense Folks, it was a sweet deal back then:cool1:...

How fast people forget what a great value it was. We still love it but it is no where close to the value it was in 2007. I remember getting free dining tip and appetizer in all included in 2006. :sad1:

Classic case of complaining leading to an unwanted change. People complained in droves before the change, that there was too much food, and they felt the servers treated them like 2nd class citizens because the tip was included. We never felt that way, and even though we miss the original plan, still find it to be convenient and a good value.

Those days were the BEST! To each his own, but we would personally rather have an appetizer than a dessert. ;)

With the price as high as it is now, you should be able to choose an appetizer or a dessert. It used to be a very good value. Now, it just isn't.

Love the idea of being able to choose either the appetizer or dessert. I would love that! :thumbsup2

I cannot look at stuff like that.

I found my "Unoffical" Disney guide from our trip in 03 and the prices made me about fall off the couch in shock.

Times have changed

I remember back in the day when people were actually debating and questioning if the plan was worth it for $36, including tip and appetizer. Than the complaints were that it was too much food. I never question the great value of it, and just loved it the moment it was introduce. Nowadays we do the deluxe plan, we don't see the value of the regular plan anymore. Even though the deluxe plan has gone up considerably, it's the way we usually eat while we are at the world. Two table service a day, one usually being a signature, we love our appetizers.

We decided to upgrade to the deluxe plan to as the reg dining plan for us was using a snack credit for breakfast ( yogurt, pastry, ect) left no snack credits for later in the day... Also I do like the idea of a sit down meal at breakfast and a signature at night. But the sticker price is a bit expensive.

Yes, sometimes you want sweet, sometimes savoury. Also I would much rather have an extra snack than the desserts you get with counter service. Much nicer to get an ice cream cone later in the afternoon than get a chocolate cake with lunch.
