Booked within minutes of taking reservations, there are several threads on the subject. Last I read, it's booked through March of 2017.

And that's why I say what I say, it more about advertising these special events to prospective buyers than providing non-restricted members with a special perk.

At least they are offering it, even if limited. The Water Park and MK nights accommodate 1000's.

I wonder if this tour is so popular because it's free or because so many are truly interested in the behind the scenes information and riding without standing in the line or getting a FP+ for it?

True if you happen to have a vacation scheduled during the same dates. Often when the dates are released, it's to late to change plans or make reservations. Many book rooms 11 months out but the event info is released only a couple of months prior.

At least you didn't spend an hour on hold like some of us did last week when the initial booking opened for the tours only to find out you were beat to the punch by someone who only held for 30 mintues. It was VERY frustrating to finally get thru and to find out they were only offering 20 slots a week. Borderline stupid IMO.

The only guarantee you get as a DVC owner is the real estate interest. Even then, there is no guarantee of availability when you want to book or getting room request when you've booked.

It's a real estate interest.

The exclusives for 2016 were released on January 4. While short notice was given for the Magic Kingdom events in February and March, members had 6+ months notice for the Beach Bash evenings at Typhoon Lagoon and 9+ months for the Animal Kingdom events.

The 2017 Magic Kingdom dates were revealed about 4.5 months out. In the immediate aftermath, there were many reports of members being able to secure rooms after the dates were published. Even today, several WDW resorts still have rooms available for multi-day stays around the March 2017 MK night.

Whether or not individuals can change their plans to coincide with the dates is another matter. Depends how flexible some are. 6-9 months' notice is certainly not a deal-breaker for all.

If these events continue, hopefully DVC will do better at giving advance notice. They have certainly improved communications on other annual events like the holiday Member Mixers and the condo meetings. As of today, we're less than a year into these new member events.

We enjoy the behind the scene tours and would be genuinely interested. As they've been doing those for years at both WDW and DL I'd believe there are lots of people who also enjoy. Free probably makes it appealing to those who have never done a behind the scenes or were on the fence though.

I would gladly pay too, and/or would be glad to have it included with the $10 no show fee like meal reservations. Why would people bother to cancel if their plans change, call MS and wait on hold for 30+ minutes to cancel a free event?

And since each member is allowed to bring 3 guests (who also get the "free" tour), the supposed member tour could be made up of 5 members and 15 guests. Maybe if they at least charged something for guests, it would make members feel as if being members was a little more special.

Keep in mind that the only members are the adults whose names are on the contract. So if parents want to take their teenage children to this tour they would be considered guests and not members. Members often think that their family are DVC members but really it is only the adults on the contract. That would be true to for the Merry Mixer as well which has a large number of guests in attendance to mixer when you think about all those family members staying on member points. In 2016 members attending the Merry Mixer may bring 5 guests. So I wouldn't be surprise that the majority of people standing in lines for photos and treats are not even members.

Personally I am glad that DVC does not restrict these tours and events to members only as allows us to share our membership with friends and family who are joining us at WDW.

I must have bought a different DVC timeshare than some of you. I thought my money guaranteed me a discount on lodging, which I get. Never did I think it would assure me a spot on a behind the scenes tours.

Gosh back in the old days, they offered little or nothing and honestly I understand why they did.

Since DVC started offering more and more perks, I see more and more complaining and whining.

As I have said in other threads about this topic, I am sure DVC did not set the limit on how many and when.

Nothing they have offered would appeal to me enough to change my vacation dates. The way I see it if they offer something that happens while I am going to be there, I will see if I can get a ticket. If not, no big deal, not going to whine about it and I will just go on with my regularly schedule trip and be just as happy as can be. Glad for someone else to go and enjoy it.

Life really is too short for anything else.

Me too. What a big hot mess it would be in cases like we see around here, where a married couple has only one name on the contract. "You can't bring your wife!"

Let alone the kids. Who shouldn't be on contracts as minor children ANYway.

Goodness.
