This Is New To Me-anyone With Experience...

Just keep in mind that you will also need the original receipt from the gift card purchase. This could cause problems for a teen traveling with their HS group or anyone who doesn't have the original GC receipt.

From the Disney Card FAQs:
What should I do if my Disney Gift Card is lost or stolen?
Promptly email us at giftcards@disneyshopping.com to report the card lost or stolen. Your Disney Gift Card will be 'frozen' and any funds remaining on the card (at the time email is received) can be transferred onto a new card if you provide the first 12 digits of your card number. An original proof of purchase receipt (the letter that accompanies your card) for the Disney Gift Card is required to transfer the funds onto a new Disney Gift Card. Unfortunately, any funds spent before the card is reported lost or stolen cannot be recovered.

Whenever I have an upcoming trip, a few months prior I go to the Disney Store and get a gift card loaded with a few hundred. Then, each time I'm at the mall, I add to it, whether it's $25, $50 or $100. When we went to Disney the week of July 4th, I gave it to the CM at check-in. With four, the dining plan was $700. I basically paid for it with the gift card. I had only a few hundred on my amex at check out. It was great. In my mind, I felt like I didn't spend that much:confused3 on our trip.
The Disney Dollars can not be replaced if lost or stolen; however, the gift cards can. Just keep your receipt in a different place and if you lose it, they will replace it.
I always get the kids a few disney dollars, but never get large sums of cash for that reason.

I have been saving for our upcoming trip so will have spending cash onhand.. I have decided to buy the gift cards with my disney chase visa card and use the money I saved to pay it off...this way I will earn the rewards as well:thumbsup2

Thanks for this thread guys!!!

I'm thinking that each of the kids may find a gift card on a lanyard in their stockings this Christmas. What a great way to limit souvineer spending for our trip next summer!!

I thought this thread might be a popular one. It was kind of a no brainer for me when I found out that they are excepted just about everywhere. I did the cash thing about 8 years ago & from then on charged to the room. This will be a nice change. Going to the Disney store to buy them today! Also using the Disney Visa-come on points!! We have another trip planned for May. Don't know why but I'm really excited by this plan!:)
