Just saw something about Disney Gift Cards on a post. Thought it might be good to buy some gift cards to use for food & goodies on our next trip. This way things would be paid for before the trip which I love & I wouldn't have to carry much cash. Anyone have experience using them? Do most restaurants take the GCs? How about street vendors? Where have do purchased them from-the disney website? Any info about these cards would be great. Just thougth it might make things easier. Thanks in advance!!

I'd also like to know about this too!?! I am paranoid when I go into big public areas with a wad of cash! I'm always checking to make sure I still have it! :scared:
I wonder if gift cards from the Disney store could be used the same way? I may have to ask them the next time I am in there.

I don't think the vendors outside can take the cards and I'm not positive with the use of gift cards in certain areas of the park. Have you thought about purchasing Disney Dollars? I love those because those are accepted everywhere and I even keep some as souveniers.:flower3:

anyone who can accept credit cards, disney dining plan or room charging (which includes many ODVs) should be able to accept the GC.

you can buy it from disneyshopping.com or at the disney store, etc.

the card can be replaced if lost, disney dollars cannot.

I gave my daughter a gift card instead of cash for her trip in February. She went with the high school band. She said she had no problems using it anywhere. She used it for all her meals.

If her high school choir/orchestra goes this year I will be giving her a gift card for that trip too. Like someone said, it is safer than cash and can be replaced if lost. I did make a copy of the front and back of the card before she left.

I bought these for my kids last year from Disneyshopping.com. Free shipping, and they came addressed to the kids (set up on the site). They loved having their own "credit cards". They were easy to carry on a lanyard, and they knew when it got to zero they were through buying! We used them at several gift shops, including those small carts set up outside the rides. It is a nice way to budget. With those and the dining plan, I spent less than $200cash on our 6 day trip, and that was for tips (which I had already put in envelopes, so also prebudgeted) and for a few extra souvenirs. I will defininitely do it again this year.

That's great that those small carts take them, I wouldn't think that they would because sometimes they don't have the sophisticated cash register to accept it but I guess these days so many people use gift cards, which I think is great for kids, that they have it.

Putting it on the lanyard for the kids is a great idea so they can't lose it and it's very handy when they have to use it:thumbsup2

Last October I loaded one of the gift cards with several hundred dollars, we used it during the Food & Wine Festival at all the food booths never had a problem quick and easy. Didn't have to worry about carriyng cash or using the credit card for $3.00 here and $5.00 there.
I still have a few dollars left on it I'll load it back up and we'll be ready to go.

I also have several friends that are Cast Members they make great gifts for special CM, they can use them anywhere on property.

I use them all the time and have never had a problem, as has been stated it's perfect for food and wine. Saves adding to room charges and since all those things are 3 or 4 dollars and change if you use cash you end up with tons of ones and coins to carry around.

I said this in a previous post. We are going in January (YEAH) and my birthday is in November. I have already told everyone who gets me anything for Christmas/my birthday that I want Disney gift cards. I figure I can never have too many. My goal is to treat this trip like it's an all-inclusive (like when I went to Sandals resorts).

The more gift cards I have, the more souvinEARS I buy. (And we are taking my nephew so there will ALWAYS be stuff I want to get him!)

Thanks for all the help! I knew you all would have the answer. I just love having as many things paid for before I leave. We won't be doing the Dining Plan this time & I know I can charge all that to the room, but I don't really want the big bill when I leave. How depressing:sad1: !! I don't know if I should get one big one or a couple smaller ones for different things. One more thing to plan!!! Thanks again & how did I not know about this. I would be asking for them for Christmas & birthdays!!:cutie:

This is great! I wanted to get my parents something special for all they do for my family and I know that money is tight and they are splurging to go and stay with us this year. This will help with the extras like F&W or late breakfasts while we are a;ready in the parks.

Can you pay for hotel/tickets with them?

Yep- can pay for a Disney cruise too!! My daughter's private school sells "scrip"- a percentage is returned to her via a tuition credit (the scrip program sells all kinds of gift cards not just Disney). I double-triple checked with Disney before I bought the cards (imagine my DH if I had spent $5000- non-refundable- and still hadn't paid off the trip  ). We are a land/sea package and paid for it with $1000 gift cards. It was a no brainer for us because we ended up saving over $600 on tuition- free money... which is going right back to the Disney trip. You can also use the giftcards for spa/shore excursions- in fact I heard you can call ahead of time and they can set up your account and "debit" your cards so you don't have to carry them with you (haven't done this yet). Sorry if this is a bit off topic because it a cruise and not the World.

what a great idea...my son is saving all his money for our Dec trip and we plan to give him a pre-set amount to spend while we are there... I will get him his own card and he will feel like a grown up with it:thumbsup2
