Tell us about your town.

Bird City
I have lived here my entire life. Lived on the farm. Got married and moved to town. My parents still live here. Dh was born and raised here. most of his family is still here.

This is a farming and livestock community.

We have one stop light up by the school. One school. one bank. One grocery store that closes at 6pm. and is closed on Sundays.
there is a post office. A cafe, and a steak house(people have actually flown in to just eat there). A new dairy is moving in. A CO-OP.
Another business is a bird seed company. Called the Bird City Bird Seed. Tht ships all over the country.
There is a swiming pool, I work there. We have summer swim team, baseball, and softball. Almost all the kids are in one of these.
Kids ride 4-wheeler and golf carts around town. Local kids follow the traffic laws, but visitors dont think they need to because we are a small town.:sad2:

Theses are the churches. Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Weslelyn(sp), and a church that someone started. and a few home churches.

Ethnic background. German, English, Polish, French, and Mexican, Irish, Scotish, and Spainish. We have one Russian.

Everyone knows averyone. When you refer to someones house you could probably tell them who lived in it before and who even built it.
When there is a funeral, and mst everyone will go. Older people will go to graduation even if they do not have any grandkids here, but they know you.
Not many people know thier street address they just know where they live.

No malls the closest one is 3hrs!, or fastfood joints but,
This is my town and I love it, I am glad to raise my family here.

Other things that make this my town. Our population is around 600. We have a thresher show every summer. Huge steam engines fired up, reliving the 1800's.

Graduating classes are around 15. One year there was 6.

Rockville Centre

Small town in the suburbs of NYC on the south shore of Long Island.
Population about 22,000. Towns on Long Island tend to run into one another.
Lots to do for the kids. Sports is very big in this town. Soccer, lacrosse basketball and baseball. Our school is not so great for football. Our older teens often hop on the LIRR and go into the city to do things.

They're are 5 elementary schools with about 200 kids. Our high school graduating class has about 225. Not too big or small. Summer activities revolve around the beach.

Lots of commuters go to the city for their jobs. Traffic is horrible. A little of everything as far as religion and ethnicity. Great restaurants, movie theaters, and fun boutiques. Mall about 5 miles away. Great place to live but expensive.

Fun topic!

Omemee, Ontario, Canada

Is a 1 stop light farm town with a population of 1393 people.
We have 2 conveniences stores, 2 public schools, a bank, a pizza parlor, a Subway sub shop, a grocery store, a liquor/beer store, as well as a few smaller shops and 4 churches.
My DH and I just moved here a year and a half ago and I'm loving it. My DH lived here for a few years as a teenager and he just couldn't say enough about it.
Unfortunately we have to travel to Toronto (about 1 and 1/2 hours away) to go to work but hey its a small sacrifice for our happiness in the future and an incredible place to raise a family.

I love small town living and I'll never move back to the big city, ever.

Tractors driving down the street, and mean a tractor not a lawn tractor. And everyone waves to everyone.

7am whistle, noon whistle, and 6 o'clock whistle. Kids know that in the summer 7am is swim team practice, or weightlifting, noon get home for lunch. 6 o'clock check back in grab a bite head out til dusk.

OMG I've been there. A friend of mine was from there and we used to visit her parents. Her mom worked in the post office - Mrs. Johnson. I haven't thoughts of that place in years but I always thoughts it was a sweet little town. Everyone always waved at me when I was driving down the street.

Philadephia

High murder rate, dirty streets, and many homeless people. I love it, :lmao:

Seriously, my city had beautiful high buildings and its filled with wonderful people (wonderfully crazy). Parts of the city are goregous and others are not. We have a fun night lafe and good shopping. We have a fabulous history.

Where I was raised, Allentown Pa. Just recall the Billy Joel song.

Mind if I ask who you friend was or who her parents were?

It is a small world.

It is a small world.

My friend was Pam Johnson - Her mother worked at the post office (early 1980's) and i can't remember what her father did. She had at least one brother but I'm really thinking two. Her brother had a dog that was part wolf. I met Pam when she was living in Denver. She married and had three girls, the one I remember best was Brianna.

I remember one weekend I was driving over to see them and got a flat tire in the town just east of them. Walked to the farm house and this young man came out and changed it for me and by the time I got to Pam's house they already knew about the flat tire. Several people had called to tell them I was going to be late, they had seen me on the side of the road. - lol

I haven't seen out that way in almost 20 years, but I will always remember Bird City, Kansas and how friendly the people were.

We live in a blip of suburbia (four square miles) bordered by the City of Chicago on the north, south, and east. The population is approximately 22,000. There are twelve churches, four excellent public elementary schools, three Catholic grammar schools, a Jr. High and a High School. Just across the border are two more huge Catholic High Schools and a Catholic University. A large shopping mall and spiffy new Walmart on our side of the Chicago border provide large sales tax revenues which help keep the quality of our public services high and property taxes quite reasonable. Within those four square miles are also a public golf course and two good-sized cemeteries. We have all the benefits of living near a major metropolis - world class museums, arts, sports, Lake Michigan - and at the same time benefit from a small village government.

About 30 million people live in the same city as I do. Some of the universities have 500,000 students. The southern part of the city has one of the highest pollution rates in the world. Every day over 10 million people use public transportation. Driving here is like no other experience on the globe. Losing power during the rainy season is a daily event. Losing water during the dry season is a daily event. Living here is never boring. :thumbsup2

It still is a nice town. Im glad you remembered it.:)

Dh is trying to remember who she is. Dh graduated in 77.

There is a Pam Johnson but that is her married name.

Im about ready to call MIL she would most likely know who it was.

There were several Johnson families, one family moved to the town West of Bird City called St. Francis.

Im going to be up all night trying to figure out that family.

I can stand in the center of town and look out all four directions and see the end of town turning into farm ground.

I met Pam in Denver in about 1981-2. At that time she had very long blonde hair (almost sat on it) and she had been in Denver for a couple years. She married Tom Burns and I think he was from North Carolina, but they lived in Denver. I lost touch with her in the mid to late 80's and then I moved to MI and hadn't thought of her in a very long time.

I can see the house they lived in, it was the corner lot and one of the oldest in BC if I remember right. Pam moved back to Bird City and worked in a law office in St Francis (where I had the flat tire) for a year or so and then moved back to Denver when she got married.

I remember having to drive to NE to go out to dinner one night. WOW!! That was a long time ago.

I graduated in 1970 and Pam was pretty close to my age, maybe a couple years younger if that helps. She could have been your DH's babysitter - lol. Her brother(s?) was/were younger. I wish I could remember her parents names.

I didn't mean to bug you, it was just so surprising to see someone from Bird City.

Your not bugging me, I thought I was bugging you. It nice to know other people are out there that know of our little town.

I will check wit h my MIL tomorrow, she will know.

I am a different generation I graduated in 1993.

I was only 2yr. when DH graduated in 1977. His brothers graduated in 1968, 1972, 1973.

Dh did say that there is also a family with the name Johnsen not johnson, and they live in a corner house.

Like I said MIL will know or knows someone who does. shes knows all the history of town.

I still cant believe that someones knows Bird City, and that they are not from here.

I will post again tomorrow night. The mystery will be solved.

I grew up in Woodmere, near Rockville Centre. We used to eat at Tiako (spelling) a lot. Great sushi, not that everybody is into sushi. I also used to go see the movies and hang out at the diner afterwards there.

Now I live in Cave Creek, AZ near Phoenix. I am technically in North Phoenix with a Cave Creek mailing address and Cave Creek schools. Cave Creek is a neat town - a lot of "horse" people and saloons. It is kind of a throw back (at least for now) to old Arizona. We have even seen people pick up take out on their horses.

I live in the suburbia part, but we are surrounded by desert. Lots of wild life here - coyotes, rabbits, gambils quail, snakes, javelinas, numerous birds, an occasional mountain lion and bobcats.

I could have the spelling wrong - it has been a few years - lol.

I'll check in tomorrow night. It is really possible that one of your BIL's would know Pam. She turned a lot of heads when I knew her.

BC was one of the friendlist places I ever visited. I remember how my visits even made the local paper.

So true, if anyone sends the night or visits someone for supper it will be in the paper.
