This is just one reason I don't do Coasters!

We were walking around Storybook Circus last Sunday, and we came upon the Barnstormer. I like to watch roller coasters, although I have no desire to go on them, being a great big chicken. We stopped to watch it and it wasn't moving.

Waited. Still not moving. Waited some more. Gave up and started to walk away, then thought...surely it's gonna move...went back and no it still wasn't moving! These folks looked awfully calm for people stuck on a ride aimed in that direction! Can only hope none of them were big chickens like me!

Shortly after I took these two pics, the ride finally went, and boy what a short ride it was compared to the long time they were hanging there!

~OMG, that is just crazy! I agree that the people appear to be exceptionally calm -- as if they're just taking in the magnificent views or something -- so much kudos to them -- they totally deserve some kind of platinum FP+ for that. I just hope they we're stuck up there for too long.

~<Knock on wood > -- as we've never been stuck like that before. There was one time when we were stuck at bottom of the on Splash Mountain -- and we just sat there until another log came crashing down and bumped us out.

That's high as heck to some of us! (Again, why I don't do even tiny coasters). And it was way more than just a few minutes.

The dozen people or so on the right of this photo were 200' up and stuck in this completely vertical position for two hours. That is a reason to not do coasters.

That is Universal Orlando's Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit one night this past October. If that had happened to me, it would have been my very last coaster ride--from it on down to Goofy--ever.

That would be more annoying then scary, however like the OP mentioned, you could probably get some pretty cool pictures if you were up there .

On our October trip, my kids had bad luck with rides breaking down on them. In the 10 times that they have gone to WDW, this was the first time that they were either stuck in a train or were the next ones to board just as the ride broke. On EE, they were just starting the decent up the big hill as the car suddenly stopped. They were up there for 20 some minutes, DH and I were sitting down in the area where you can see the cars come out of the mountain (down the big hill) and could see them waving to us as they were waiting. Another time during that trip, they were the very next ones to ride BTMRR when all of a sudden the ride broke down. DH and I were waiting for them outside by the entrance, when a CM started turning guests away saying that the ride was down and wasn't sure when it will be back up. Luckily, my DD12 had my cell phone with her and she called DH and told her that she and our other DD were the next ones to board but they are telling people to come back later. All the guests that were next in line to board the train were given FPs that were good for anytime during that day for any ride that they chose, so that was the only good thing that came out of that situation. It was almost laughable, DH at one time said that he thinks we broke WDW . Even though this wasn't on a roller coaster, but it added to our misfortunes of our trip, our whole family was riding POTC before MNSSHP started, when all of a sudden our boats stopped moving, the lights went on, and the music stopped. We sat in our boats for a good 10 minutes or so before they started moving again (lights still on and music still off) at a very slow drift. We finally made it off the ride just in time for the party to start, which I was more worried about since I wanted to be one of the first in line to see Captain Jack Sparrow .

I fear getting stuck at the top of top thrill dragster or Millennium Force, but I'll still ride them.

Yikes - 2 hours is bad. The worst I've seen though is people getting stuck on a ride at the Six Flags near us. You sit in the seat with the track above you, and then the seats fold upwards so you are looking at the ground with your back against the track. I've seen people stuck hanging in the air facing the ground for a while - not fun.

When I was a teenager, my dad and I got stuck on a small coaster in DCA, similar to Barnstormer. Somehow our car was the only one that was too close to the exit to be near a ladder but too far away to get to the exit. We sat for so long that DCA CMs were bringing us drinks.

That's Rip, Ride, Rockit at Universal, and it's only 167 feet, not 200. Those seats are actually pretty comfortable, so it wouldn't have been a huge deal to be stuck up there, unless it was extremely hot and they wouldn't bring water or shade. It's not like they were stuck upside down in a loop for 3 hours like the guys on the Demon in 1998 were. *THAT* would have bothered me lol.

Those seats are actually pretty comfortable, so it wouldn't have been a huge deal to be stuck up there, unless it was extremely hot and they wouldn't bring water or shade. It's not like they were stuck upside down in a loop for 3 hours like the guys on the Demon in 1998 were. *THAT* would have bothered me lol.

I will disagree those seats are comfortable while looking straight up. They are slightly reclined as I recall, which means you have a vague feeling of slipping out head first while in the ascent. My 33' rounding error would be cold comfort for those two hours.

Right up there with snakes falling from the "sky" into your lap.

Thrill seekers don't ride roller coasters - they jump out of airplanes and hang glide. Coasters are very, very safe. They just provide the illusion of risk.

I remember the rip ride rocket incident!! My 10 yr old dd and I had just done universal for the first time at the end of August and rode it half a dozen times. When I heard about this - my eyes went wide! You do feel like you're slipping out of your seat on this ride - exciting for a second or two - terrifying for two hours!

My daughter was too. She talked about it the whole time in line. Apparently it's a highly coveted experience. Cedar Point says it happens "sometimes". I have a feeling "sometimes" means a grand total of a half dozen times since the ride was debuted.

IMO, Millenium Force is a much better ride than Top Thrill Dragster. By far my favorite roller coaster ever.

I would be freaking out of that was me stuck in that position. I went on that ride a week ago and the whole way up I was hoping we made it over. The way the seats are, it didn't feel like I was just facing upwards, I felt like I could slide backwards out of the seat if I wasn't strapped in.

Often the reason a rollercoaster train gets stopped on the lift hill (like the Barnstormer in your pic) is a guest is doing something stupid. On a coaster her in UK and they stopped us on the lift hill before it started properly as they spotted on the CCTV that someone had their mobile phone out to video the ride. This rollercoaster goes upside down so could of come out their hand and hit a spectator so the staff were right to stop the ride before it got going properly.
