My brother is a riot...he's a couple of years younger than me with a 6 year old daughter. He's been asking me for some advice about a trip to WDW because he knows I was there last December. In his mind, he wants to go when it's not busy, he doesn't want to pull his daughter out of school for a week, and he doesn't want to spend any money. My advice was to pull her out of school for a week when I went, which was the first week of December and gave him some suggestions for staying at a Disney resort.
He's selected the 2nd week of June in 2009. In order to save money, he's selected a hotel in Kissimmee that is a whopping $21/night. The only "downside" is that he has to listen to a 90 minute timeshare presentation and he'll get 2 park passes for a day as well. What little does he realize that when he's staying there a full week, he's literally only going to spend an additional $10-15 to buy a 7 day pass vs. a 6 day pass for all 3 of them. The hotel offers free drop off/pick up, but it's only 1-2 trips in the morning and evening. He's been asking how long he'd need at each park because he can't imagine why he'd need more than a day at each park. As I explained to him, he's going to go when a lot of the stuff they'll be doing will all have waits in excess of an hour. I mentioned the time he'll be waiting in line for his daughter to get pictures with the princesses and such as well. For that, he said that he'd just tell her no. I told him to go ahead and plan for the meltdowns now.
Granted, I traveled with 3 kids(ages 4 and under) in the first week of December and we still had a number of things we didn't see, let alone what he's going to run into by going in June. He was asking about rides and such and I told him a lot of them he'll have long waits. His response: he can go on rides much closer to home. Can you imagine going to Disney with that mindset? When he comes back from his trip, I'll just say "I told you so".
Trust me, he can MORE than afford to stay at a nice Disney resort.

I am sure when he gets there and feels the magic, he will regret where he is staying. But by then...it will be too late. Good luck, trying to change his mind...you know how men are.
