I have heard that DLR restaurants are so-so at best. My sisters birthday (she lives in LA) is the week we are out there and we would like to treat her to a good meal, would you suggest Napa rose or steakhouse 55 or would you suggest a non-Disney restaurant in the area? If so, does anyone have suggestions of places in the area? Money is not an option as long as the food is worth the money!

Napa Rose is one of the best restaurants in California so if you want something special you will have to work hard to beat it.

Other than that outside of the park dining almost everything in the resort area and DTD is a chain so while great places they aren't so unique to be special.

NR is unlike any of the other DLR restaurants, IMO. If you can swing it, I would do the chef's counter at NR. The chef will custom cook you a meal for the same price as the vintner's menu. And it's sooooooooo tasty!

Napa Rose is incredible. We like Jazz Kitchen, too. Nowhere near as fancy or intimate, but excellent food. Decent wine list.

My family really enjoyed the steakhouse a few years ago, but Napa Rose was not so much a hit. I know NR is supposed to be something special, but I guess it just was a bit too fancy feeling for us and the food a bit too fancy. We felt comfortable at the steakhouse and enjoyed the food way more. But maybe that's just us.:confused3

Both of the restaurants were nice and the food was good at both places. So either place will be nice. :)

We like both but gravitate more to SH55, feels less formal than NR.

Thank you all for your feedback on this. One question I have is child friendliness at napa rose? There will be a toddler in our group. Do many children go here? Granted I know it is Disney... And do they have a kids menu?

Yes there are many kids at NR, never a problem with the kids but the parenting seems unique at times.

Yes, they have a kid's menu.

On a funny kid/NR related side note, when we were there at the chef's counter an order went in for a kids meal with fries; the parents requested the carrot sticks be cut the same size as the fries! :lmao:

We celebrated our 10-year anniversary at Napa Rose just a couple of months ago, and it was great. We ordered a bunch of things and split all of it (we wanted to try a variety). We just planned on doing the splitting ourselves, but they brought the salad and main course out to us already split, no extra charge. We had the duck salad, steak with vegetables, truffled mac-and-cheese, and hot chocolate for dessert (yes, it is a full dessert). On the plate the hot chocolate sits on, they piped "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate.

We're so glad we went, and will definitely be going back. As far as I know, they're one of the two restaurants that do not provide for the AP dining discount. We did a review of our dinner at Napa Rose and posted it to YouTube:

(most of our reviews we do in the restaurants, but thought it not a good idea to bring that much A/V equipment into Napa Rose :rolleyes1).

I would also recommend Wine Country Trattoria, as it has a nice, intimate atmosphere, and they have a special menu (which includes appetizer, main course, and dessert) that comes with a World Of Color preferred seating pass. We have a video review of that on our channel as well.

If you don't mind driving a little further out (to South Orange County), the Stonehill Tavern restaurant in Monarch Beach (at the St Regis) is AMAZING.

Here are some yelp reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/stonehill-tavern-dana-point

You should only trek out there if you decide to do so on a Saturday or Sunday. The drive on a weekday will be really bad from the local commute. But the food is SO worth it if you don't mind going a little further and money is no object :goodvibes
