This Honestly Freaked Me Out.

This is why schools shouldn't teach abstinence only. I don't know if that's what they teach in your area, but that's what they teach in mine.
They teach about every method of contraception going here. I don't know our STI rate but our pregnancy rate is ridiculous. The UK has the highest within Europe and my county the highest within Wales. Sadly we're the smallest county. So we kinda need the information. The catholic school up the road teachers purely abstience but i'm guessing that's because it's catholic.

That is really sad.
It isn't that hard to protect yourself...[/QUOTE]

This is my STRONG opinion and ONLY an opinion.
I don't want to offend anyone on here.
BUT

My opinion is.
Just don't have sex at all until you are happily married and want kids.

I found that to be pretty simple,
Don't you?

Not at all. I don't believe in that for many reasons sorry.

I don't understand how this thread became a bash thread?

The SAFEST way to NOT get an STD is to NOT to ANYTHING at ALL.

Gosh,
I thought that would have been pretty clear , but instead now you are saying that its not hard to protect yourself!?

Its not that simple.

Yes it's the safest way not to catch an STI i just don't agree with it.
FTR i'm not bashing you
=]

Well, it's 1 out of 4 sexually active girls, not girls in general.

EDIT: This is what I read in Cosmogirl. From what I've read, it seems like people are interpreting this as 25% of teenage girls in general, though considering that 47% of high school girls have had sex, that would mean that more than half of sexually active girls have STD's, which is not the truth.

I don't see any bashing going on. :confused3 Just an obvious difference of opinion.

Personally, I don't think it's necassary to wait to have sex until after marriage but I do think you should be in a stable, long-term relationship. I most definitely do not think they should teach abstinence only sex ed because kids are going to have sex anyways and it's better they know the ways to protect themselves.

I wasn't bashing anybody either, just stating my opinion. I just disagree with abstinence only sex education because I think it's unrealistic.

Yeah, abstinence IS the only way to be absolutely 100% sure you don't get an STD, but condoms and good sense are pretty effective, if you get what I mean by that.

I'm not sure if I ever want to get married or have kids, but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have sex sometime in my life, and I can be pretty sure I won't get an STD.

Yes, but between the ages of 14-19?
This is what Im saying,
Im NOT saying that people shouldn't have sex, because we wouldn't be alive.

But seriously come on... 14-19!?!?

I don't understand why its so unrealistic to not have sex during those ages?

im personally waiting for marriage, but thats just my choice.. but i can totally see how its hard for that age range to not have sex... thats the age range where there is the most peer pressure in a persons life....ALSO, its when your hormones are like raging from puberty lol... so if anything, thats the most likely age for that kind of stuff imo...

and i agree that they need to teach more things than just abstinance... theres nothing really "bad" about it because its stuff that naturally happens, so why hold back on all of the info... i never understood why some parents dont want their kids taking sex ed.. ah well

Its just better to wait. And its unfortunate that more girls get the consequences than the guys...they can get them too...but it just isn't the same in my mind.

14, yeah, that's young. But 16-19? That's when a lot of people become sexually active.

MAINLY, I think that they just need to teach ways to be safe..

My friend got an STD last summer.. yet she was never sexually active and hadn't kissed a guy since the end of the school year  It was some weird growth thing.. AND IT WAS ON HER BICEP

So yeah.. sometimes people aren't sexually active yet can still somehow get and STD, so don't be too quick to flame on teenagers.

yeah i read somewhere that a teacher had wanted to teach "masterdabation (if u know what i'm saying) because it was the only safe sex...and they fired her because of it...i think it's actually a really smart idea

Yeah, I think it was a justice on the Supreme Court or a senator who proposed that idea a couple of years ago, as using that as a tool to not get STDs.
It was a huge deal.

Whatever works.
I mean, yeah, abstinence is the only foolproof way.
But most teenagers WILL have sex.
There's no getting around it.

At my school it's abstinence only. Honestly, most of us have tuned out of sex-ed at this point because it's not telling us anything. We're all planning on having sex anyway, despite the "If you have sex you will get pregnant and you will get an STD and you will DIE. Never ever have sex!" attitude of our classes (Basically picture sex ed in Mean Girls). What would be more useful to us would be learning about protection and birth control, and things like how to bring certain subjects up to your parents, i.e. getting on the pill, because that's a conversation that most girls really need to have, but are absolutely terrified of.

May I explain something really quick?

I am only 12,
so basically all I know is "DONT HAVE SEX JUST NEVER EVER HAVE IT"

Now, all of the sudden I see people I actually know talking about how if she had a bf that she was in a long term relationship she would have sex with him at the age of 16.

I don't understand.
There are A LOT of things I don't understand.
The biggest one of them all is, whats the point of having sex at a young age?
Why not just eat some Chocolate or Kiss?
I understand making out (to an extent) but seriously having sex as a teenager?
