This Easter Busiest In 5 Years?

I keep thinking about the crowds, OH NO. But The more I think, I have no choice. The whole family is going all 11 of us. I figure, if we have to leave the parks because they are too busy, we will come back later in the night. You can really stress yourself out thining about it. Im just really lucky to be going. That is how I look at it. Went in February once. Didn't wait for a thing. Went in late April last time, and only waited for short times. Im prepared this time,

Just another reply Hippychickali.....I reallly don't think the question has been answered, but that's just me. Maybe other people have opinions. I live on the east coast and MOST of our schools have spring break in april - I don't know why a lot of people from here would go to disney in march if that's when Easter is instead of waiting for our break. For those who have spring break in march - or those who have the 4-day weekend I can understand. Is it busy JUST for Easter or for the whole week around it? Will the folks who have their spring breaks in march be at Disney next year when Easter is in April? That's the part I don't understand. No need to reply as you have given your answer...just me trying to get more thoughts on the subject.

Most of the schools in MD and VA have the week before or after Easter off. We only get a break in April if Easter is late.

I understand what you're saying. We went during Easter last year because our break was during that time. This year our schools are only closed Good Friday. There's no way I'd pay peak rates (airfare, hotel) for a 3 or 2 night trip. It just makes more sense for us to wait a few weeks and go when we can stay longer.

I also wonder if people go down just for Easter weekend.

I see, so a lot of schools purposely plan there spring breaks around Easter. Thats interesting. Ours here in MA is always in April...the week that includes Patriots Day. I think we do it to save days off...you know they would be off for Patriots Day anyway so its only 4 more days off to make the week....so thats one day sooner for schools to get out for the summer.

I guess that means if I had planned to go during our April week it wouldn't have been so bad being that its not near Easter.

I wish I had thought of that sooner :confused3 :teeth:

I understand what you are saying but most workers don't get a "spring break". You are talking about school children and teachers. Therefore, it doesn't really matter when spring break is to a lot of people. So, they have to work around the statutory holidays. Do you know what I'm saying?

good luck to anyone going around Easter. That time of year is just not for my family.

FYI - As far as I know, MA is the only state that officially celebrates Patriot's day.

::sigh:: I am nervous about going too. Last trip was July 4, 2003. We said we wouldn't go back when it was that crowded. I'm scared it will be total chaos. I did talk w/ someone in tickets/reservations today. He said that they do not anticipate it to be as busy as July 4th or Christmas weeks, but they are pretty much booked up on property. I've been looking forward to this trip for a long time. The crowds didn't really bother me, but I felt like we wasted so much time. Tell me it will be ok????

yes and maybe Maine....anyway just to clarify... I meant we get out one day sooner than WE WOULD HAVE if we didn't have spring break that week. I didn't mean sooner than other states.

Our winter break is always the week that contains Presidents day for the same reason. Less days off during the school year means earlier dismissal in June

Wendi,
IT WILL BE OK!!! We've been at Easter before, and we had a BLAST! You just have to be smart and know how to outwit, outlast, and outplay the crowds. If you've done Fourth of July then you've had good practice. Get to the parks early and then leave when you start to feel stressed.

Don't listen to people who say say "Good luck!" You don't need luck, you need good planning.

We'll be there March 27-April1, and I can't wait. :cheer2:

Hippychickali - So you're saying that in Canada, all businesses are closed on Good Friday and the Monday after Easter? (Since you're saying not just teachers and students.) Wow....we don't get that at all over here. Some business close a half-day on Good Friday, but that's about it. Hence I see where there is some confusion.

Another point I was going to mention is that I bet most Christian and Catholic schools schedule their break around Easter each year. While that's certainly not the majority of the population, that is a good chunk of people who will always coincide with Easter.

Wow! I assumed all schools were either closed the week before Easter such as my daughters, or the week after Easter. But I guess thats just how it is here in NJ. So thats why I am going the week before. Interesting to find out how things are done across the country :-)

In our part of the country, schools get out for summer in late May. So our Spring Break is in March - about half-way between Christmas Break and the start of summer. We don't get any days out for Easter - we used to get Good Friday, but not any more.

Our Spring Break date is state wide - next week. This allows families that have kids in different schools to all have the break.

Our spring break has typically been the first week of March...but this year we got lucky :rotfl: and it was changed to the last week of March...the week of Easter...

Our Spring break has always been Maundy (Holy) Thursday through the Friday following Easter. Unfortunately, the powers that be are giving us the week of Presidents' Day as our "Spring" break next year. We're in central NY, so there is nothing springy about a week in February! We will still get Good Friday and Easter Monday, but I would MUCH prefer Easter week to Presidents' Day week. Also, we don't get out until the end of June, so it's going to be a long stretch at the end with no break.

Our school district always has vacation starting the Thursday before Easter and the whole week following Easter. We only have one or two days off for Presidents day. Our school ends the first week of June. We never have a spring break in March unless Easter falls during that month. Like this year. This is in NE Ohio.

Um, they did park hours until midnight at the MK for the last several years during Easter week. Last year all Disney rooms were also booked up.

Our school district always has the first full week of April as our Spring Break. Since Easter is on a different date each year, sometimes in March, sometimes in April, our break occasionally coincides with the busy Easter weeks. This year it doesn't--Hooray!! And we're hoping that the crowds will have subsided by the time we arrive! If not, we'll use Fastpass, park hopping, and good planning to get around in the crowd...and we'll have a great trip anyway!! :cool1:

Yeah, we got lucky too this year... :rotfl: :rotfl:
Usually our spring break is around the 14th or 15th of March. This year they bumped it to the week before Easter. Yippee! :rotfl2:
