This Disney trip is going to be the bomb diggity! Dec 2010

You're going on a cruise!? How exciting! Have you done the cruise before? Will there be a TR?

I would love to someday do the cruise, I have read and seen so many things about the Disney cruises, it looks so amazing. I hope you have the best time ever!!!!

Yeah, Mom and I are doing to DisUnplugged Podcast Cruise. My first cruise and I am very excited! Don't know if ther will be a TR, but I'm sure there will be plenty of stories!

I really want to get busy planning this trip. I can't really make hardcore plans until I know my sons plans, depending on when he goes to boot camp will determine when his graduation is, I don't want to miss it for anything, but I can't even purchase my airline ticket for the trip just incase he ends up joining late and graduation happens to fall on the weekend I am at Disney, I can change my Disney days, I serioulsy doubt the coast guard will change it's graduation day for me, :confused3

We have run into a few snafus along the way. He was diagnosed with a heart murmur in elementary school, and even though they declared it functional and allowed him to play football, the C.G. recruiter wants to see the EKG record for himself, so that has pushed back his joining date, the recruiter also wants to speak with Jims therapist from years ago when Jim was "self medicating" during a rough patch in his life, he said it helps jim's case alot that Jim sought treatment for himself in those days and wasn't forced or ordered into a treatment program. His biggest concern at this point is the heart murmur.

So we have been busy running here and there signing release forms and what not, but hopefully we will hear something this week. Jim really has his heart set on the coast guard.

I'm sure all will work out though.

Reese is turning 16 this July, we have 2 parties planned, one with family out in Michigan and then my sister Bo and I are taking her up to Bo's summer place in Tawas Bay, that part is a surprise, just a long weekend of canoeing, kayaking, hiking and laying on the beach. I am so excited to go, I won't be able to do the hiking part, but I don't mind, I will just take a good book to the beach. Anybody have any good books they want to mention.

Then the end of July Reese is having her sweet 16 here at the house, about 50 kids are expected to come.

August we want to go to Chincoteague for a few days. September I am going to Michigan for a week, my brother and his family are flying in from Texas. We are throwing him a surprise birthday party. Then in October I am going to Michigan for my sister Bo's hge Halloween party.

Tons of events to keep me busy until my trip, but all I wanna do is be able to plan this thing and like I said I can't, not until I know Jim's graduation date.

I do have plans to get with Lo and try and figure out which park for which day, we are still undecided if we want to park hop. I have always gotten the park hopper in the past but never really park hopped, it was a just incase thing, but now I know that if I don't get it, I'm gonna wish I did, something will happen that I will need to park hop and then I won't be able to. I think I need to make a pros and cons list, I will post that in my next installment.

That sounds like so much fun. Even if you don't do a TR, anytime you want to share a story you can do it on my TR. I would love to hear them. I bet the ship will b all decked out for Christmas, I am so excited for you.

Our oldest son graduated from Boot Camp and Military Police school in the Army this past April. It certainly is an event not to be missed and we could not have been any more proud of Tyler. Although, a different branch, I am here if you need to talk things through...The whole process is emotional.

It certainly sounds like you have some busy times ahead. The next big thing for us is 10 days of camping in August with some of our closest friends. We have been every year for the past 15 years to the same campground and have a great time....rain or shine!!

Trish

Hey Ty! Wow, things have really changed since I was last on here. I can't believe we are going to miss each other by a week. DARN IT!

When are you coming to Michigan? I've kind of given up on my report for now. Never EVER take 6 classes at one time. I am living and breathing homework.

How exciting for Jim. I am so happy he is where he is right now. He has come a long way.

Congratulations to you and to Tyler. You must be so proud. I felt so much pride in jim when he anounced that he wanted to join the service. The time is getting closer, the recruiter called, he has received all of Jim's records and is ready to move on, he wants Jim to come to the office this week and get the ball really rollin. I'm happy and sad, my boy has grown up so fast. Even just thinking about boot camp graduation makes me cry.

Camping sounds like fun, I haven't been real camping in several years, I used to go camping all the time with my parents in Carlsbad New Mexico when I was a child, now my camping (if you can even call it that) is a long weekend at our cabin, or my sisters trailer in Tawas Bay, yeah I guess that's not really camping, even if we do make s'mores:)

One week? that's all? seems like each time we go to Disney our travel dates get closer to eachother, let's keep planning trips eac year, maybe someday they will over lap. We've been gabbing here on the boards for almost 4 years now, don'tcha think it's time we meet in person?

I am coming to Michigan this July, the 15th -the 19th, then I am coming out again the end of September, I don't have the exact dates yet, then I will be out again Halloween weekend for my sister Bo's party, (you're invitation is still open) of course I might have to cancel depending on Jim's graduation.

Jim sure has come along way, he has been on the honor roll for the past 2 years, I just got his last report card, straight A's. And he didn't slack his senior year either, he took some pretty hard electives, well hard in my book, World Religion, War and Conflict, some math thing that I couldn't do even if I had a calculator and the answers given to me.:lmao: Anyway, I think he will make a great sailor, he wants to go gunners mate, but who knows he might change his mind once he is in and sees what other options there are, but so far gunners mate is all he talks about. It's a sea going rate, not much room for land billets, but he says he wants to be on a ship and traveling all around.
He is also hoping to be stationed in Florida, :woohoo: We know what that means!

What is the date again? I work most Sundays 11-7. but maybe I can get somebody to switch days with me. I would really love to come and meet everybody and it's not too far for me to drive. Would it be ok if Kent came with me too?

It would be absolutley WONDERFUL if Kent could come with you!! The more the merrier!

The date is August 29th- lunch at 12:30 or so in Bethesda, Metro to something in DC, then dinner around 7:ish back in Bethesda.

You could come to some, or all. :)

I can totally commiserate with you on the acceptance terms of the military... Our son is trying to get into the ROTC program and his childhood asthma could disqualify him, even though it is NOT an issue at all, and hasn't been for years. REally, it's so sad. For now, we're just praying that he gets clearance or a waiver!

hi, consider me a new subscriber! the trip sounds so fun with Lo!!! I did an awesome trip with just my sister and I many years ago and we had such a blast. We usually do disney with at least 5 people, sometimes 14. so it is larger groups, just doing 2 was so nice- we could go where we wanted, when we wanted, change plans and not feel bad about affecting everyone else. You'll have a blast!

Congrats on your kiddos too- hope all goes well and you get to know exactly when your son can go to boot camp so you can seriously start planning! :wizard:

we are there 12/4-12/11 with our 2.5yo.

40 in disney- i like it! I will definitely use that one with DH when i turn 40 in a few years!! what better reason to celebrate than such a big milestone. besides 40 is the new 30, right? at least that is what i keep telling myself. :rotfl:

Hi new subsriber, thank you so much for coming and reading, I really thought this PTR would be on the last page of this forum by now, I have little time to keep up with it.

I have always traveled with a group of of 4, it's not too over whelming, but a tiny twosome will be much easier, we have finally sat down and come up with our park days, I will post that later after a little bit of fine tuning.

Our vacation dates are almost the same, it's so fun to read and find out just how many diser's are going to be at Disney the same time as me, I have met so many great people at DIsney just from talking to them on the disboards.

Still no word on Jim's boot camp departure, he and the recruiter have been playing phone tag all week, But the kids are just enjoying their summer, Reese is trying to spend as much time with Jim as possible before he leaves, they are off on a camping trip to Gettysburg this weekend. (no sleep for me for the next 2 nights)

40 is the new 30:lmao: I can live with that, I don't feel like I'm close to turning 40 at all, but I definitely need to go big for my 40th, you can't get bigger then disney, that's just my opinion though, DH wouldn't think so though, I'm sure he thinks there is something bigger then Disney.
Anyway, thanks for joining this PTR , hope you stick around.

Ty

I hope Jim and his recruiter will be able to hook up soon so you can figure out what's going on with your trip! Congratulations to him on how well he did with the last part of school! :woohoo:

Hello!

Oohh, I had no idea you were going again! Yay! I subbed and will go back to read up. :goodvibes

HI! I am going in December too! Can't wait to follow along!:santa:

What are your travel dates? Have you ever been in December before? This will be my 3rd December trip, eac year I say I am going to try a different time of year but I always end up going for my birthday in december, I love it, it's so festive.

Thanks for reading, I'm always happy to meet new people on the Dis.

Hello!

Yup, going again, I was supposed to go this September with DH, but that had to be postponed, so Lo and I are going for our Birthdays, she's done Disney before but never stayed on property, I'll show her how magical an on resort stay can be. not that staying off site isn't magical too, just a little less maybe.

Thanks for reading, it's good to hear from you again.

Thank you so much, I am really proud of all the changes he has made in his life.

Still playing phone tag with the recruiter, Jim is home all day today so I told him to just hound the place, call every hour if he has too. I'm about ready to just drive to the recruiters office and set up the appt, I can't keep waiting around like this, I hate not having a plan, and not being able to make plans because of this.

I did the first cruise last year- it was awesome! the DIS unplugged team had so many great surprises and events planned. plus nothing like cruising with 300 other DISers you've only talked to online. I know this year the numbers are probably double that! we can't make it this year, so i can't wait to hear all about it!

Ty
i'll definitely be checking in often! glad the kids are enjoying a great summer!!!

So, they released the discount for this fall, Free dining has been extended, I was so excited to read this, but then after reading on I saw that the dates do not include my travel dates. I'm there during their blackout dates for free dining. Some of the dates were Nove 27- Dec 2nd, so I know that in the past as long as your package starts while the promotion is happening they will extend it past the original date to accomodate you for your whole stay, so I thought I would just move up my arrival date by one day, simple right:confused3.....

Nope, they can't do that this time because it is a blackout time, :guilty:

So, I call Lo super frantic talking a mile a minute, she had to pretty musch slap me over the phone to calm down, "Ty, stop, just breath, relax........now talk."

I explained to Lo the situation and that if we want free dining we need to change our travel dates, we discussed going in November, but we would get home a week before Thanksgiving, that is the week Kent leaves for trapping, We would be seperated for 2 1/2 weeks, can't do that, we talked about going Nov 27 -Dec 2nd, but we don't want to be there the weekend after thanksgiving, we're convinced the crowds would still be bad. so we discussed going the second week of December, but we would get home a week before Christmas and neither one of us like that idea.

We did the pros and cons thing and what it came down to was this....

1. We both want to be there for our Birthdays.
2. We have already purchased our MVMCP tickets.
3. We might not get a CRT ressie if we change dates.
4. Her husband has already planned to work from home that week.
5. Lo has already set it up to have her DD taken to cheerleading and competitions that week.

6. We already have our transportation to and from the airports secured.

The only down side to this situation is we won't get free dining.

I called to check the prices to add CS dining plan only, our cost would go up by $224 each, we did the whole looking at the menu and adding up meal prices, not including snacks and some days only eating one CS meal, and it came to $200, we decided then to just bite the bullet and add dining to our package.

The way we see it is either way we're gonna have to put money out to eat so might as well pay it up front and be hassel free at the parks.

It's still going to be a great trip, no worries there. I won't have alot (if any) money for souvies but hey, Disney isn't going anywhere, there will be future trips and at least I still get to go to Disney.

And other great news, Lo and her family are going to Disney next October, they rent a house about 5 or 10 miles from the world, they are going for 10 days and invited Kent and I to go with them, Kent and I crunched the numbers and it would be so much cheaper this way. I offered t slip the cost of the house with them, but Lo said no since they were going to be using 3 of the rooms and Kent and I would use one she didn't feel right splitting it 50/50.

We would do a day at the park and then a day at the house, relaxing in the private pool. Kent plans to do all the cooking on those house days, I see a huge seafood dinner in my future.

Lo and I will probably go by Disney souvies much cheaper off property, so I will still get to do my Disney shopping, it'll just be a year later then planned, more time to save up right?

SO all is good in the country hood.

Hooray for another trip!! Always love that!

bummer you can't do FD this time. Black out dates stink!

That stinks about missing free dining, but I'm so glad you still get to go! :woohoo: And next October sounds like it's gonna be a great trip!

I know a couple people who swear by the Quick Service Plan. You can still go to some really good spots like Sunshine Seasons, Yak & Yeti Counter service, and Columbia Harbor House for some good eats that aren't hamburgers and chicken fingers. YAY!

Yup, black out dates stink alright but whatcha gonna do:confused3 I lucked out with free dining last year, but the other 2 times I went I paid for the dining plan, FD would have been nice but I'm still just so happy I even get to go.

I am just as excited for next Octobers trip as I am this trip. It'll be a different way to do Disney, but we are also planning to throw in Universal, I have been wanting to go to Universal for a long time now,but we have always stayed on property for our Disney trips and I could just never bring myself to give up a day of disney to go to Universal.

I have always liked the quick service meals, I really enjoy the table service too, but we decided we really don't want to be held down by a reservation, and there are so many QS places I have yet to try but really want to, like Columbia Harbor house and Pinnochios village house ( is that correct?)
any way I am excited for all the good eats. Plus with QS you get 2 snacks a day, that means double the pineapple dole whip floats:woohoo:
