Third Time's a Charm PTR - May 2012 - I should give up on planning trips.

I love hearing about all that history. I'll have to look at the dates and see if that is coming close enough to me to go to.

Was Fran taking the pictures at the end? That doesn't seem like something she would miss.

I keep meaning to listen to the music you posted the links for, I need to do it at home and when I'm there time just gets away from me. Any luck finding musicians?

Yes, Fran took the pictures. I think all the events are sold out across the country, but you can always take a look at the D23 website. We are still in need of some trombone players, but we have a rhythm section. Sunday will be fun but a PITA.

I thought ^^^^ was the dx. If not, I am still glad that you know whatever it is. It is easier to control once you know what it going on.

Wow! You know better what I say than I do! :rotfl2:

BTW what does "dx" mean? I saw that on another person's TR and didn't know there either.

I didn't think you were preachy at all, I thought they were highly informative. I always say that it is a good day if you learn something new and through the links you have provided I have learned something new! :teacher: I think it's neat that you have so much pride in your faith without being preachy. Without treading into fobidden subjects, I think that "pride without judgement" is something many other people could use to learn. :rolleyes1

Sorry my views on the MSEP theme are so unpopular! :sad2: I think the reason you think my dates are changing is because you keep messing with YOUR plans and assume that others do the same :rotfl: (although I suppose I know others who have been known to do that too :scratchin). Once I book the airfare the only change is cancellation.

I think I'm just so used to educating the peeps here in Utah that I naturally think people haven't a clue about anything but the predominant religion here. :rotfl:

I think you might be right about plans changing. Have we planned a date to meet or are we too far away?

Our SW airfare went down but I'm hoping for one more drop. What airline do you typically fly?

Ok, finally listened to the music, you guys are fabulous!

I hope this weekend isn't too bad and that you have fun :)

Sorry. I worked in the medical field for so long that I use abbreviations without even realizing it sometimes. The ^^^^above is correct. Ironically, I do not use abbreviations for much else.

I work in mental health. My favorite is:

I had/have a fair number of Jewish friends, but we became friends after the bat/bar mitzvah, so I know nothing of what you're preparing for other than she'll get a lot of gifts.

We fly American. We have an advantage card for miles. I thought if it worked for you we could hit up the F&W kiosks Monday or Tuesday after you arrive. Wednesday is OK, but that's our check out day.

Thanks! It should be fun for the most part!

It was Jenny's PTR and there was an entire post that was absolute jibberish to me because she was using medical speak! I do it with Disney stuff and it confuses my non-believer friends.

Never seen that one before, but subcool would be my guess.

Oh yeah. I guess I do it with Disney too, lol. Bret loses me sometimes, because he knows a lot of terms. I can usually foolow others when they do it.

Every time Bret says MS, I keep thinking Member Services not Main Street. :lmao:

That's the DVC talking. :rotfl2: Since Bret and I are not DVC members, I think Main Street. He gets me with some of the others though.

She'll get a fair number of gifts but my Chloe is much less extroverted than Gabby and doesn't need a pony show. ;) She's got the two dx, that you read about in my ptr, and she's the most soulful child I've ever met. She's been in religious school for years so the prep for this one day has been major. I'd go into specifics but don't want to get too off topic.

I didn't realize you check out so close to when we check in. What day do you arrive? We check into AoA the 13th but we won't land until 9 pm if I book this flight I'm stalking.

I've never flown American. Hate United, which we're taking to fly home :upsidedow Love SW and JetBlue. Delta is good. Frontier hasn't been good to me.

An *s* with a little line over it means without and a *c* with a little line over it means with. So in the psych world we'll give a dx of MDD c or s psychosis (imagine the little line). I can't make the little psychosis symbol but it looks like a little pitchfork. :rotfl: MDD is Major Depressive Disorder. I could go on and on. I love my field.

When I say checkout day, I mean out of BCV & into VWL for another three nights. I love American and have flown them most of my life. We have flown Delta but no more. They pushed the scooters in gear all the way up to the gate. I'm sure that is why mine is having problems now. I like SW, but haven't flown too many others.

Ahhh......sorry, I'm firing slow tonight. As of our plans now we'll be in Epcot on the 15, 17, 21, and 23 for sure. What are your trip dates?

I am listening to the first one now. You guys are quite good. The band us huge. No wonder there is so much work involved. Thanks for sharing that. You ladies have a great talent. Good luck getting new members. How many people does your band have when every slot is filled.

A Big Band traditionally has five saxes (two altos, two tenors and a bari), four trombones, four trumpets, piano, bass, guitar and drums. So 17 people, add a singer or two and you get 18-19. We would like to have a male and female singer.

Fran is back to wondering why we put in so much work. We are about to go change the cars at the end of the parade so the SUV is parked there instead of the Chevy Malibu.

So about a week ago, Arline and I used up our TravelZoo vouchers at the Mandara Spa in the Grand Californian Hotel. It was a deal for $99 you could choose $200 worth of spa services. We started off our day at Disneyland. It was a little after 11AM when we arrived, the crowds weren’t too bad.

Our first stop would have been the Matterhorn, however it is still undergoing extensive renovations. Supposedly they are putting in all new cars which also require new tracks.

DSCN4876.jpg

So we went with our second choice.

DSCN4875.jpg

The neat thing about the Monorail is that you get a sneak peek into the construction on Buena Vista Street.

And of course a look at the Grand Californian Hotel

And Downtown Disney

Our Monorail broke down for about 10 minutes at the DTD stop. Arline did her first pin trade with a little girl who was in our monorail car. After that we exited in Tomorrowland and got our super fast passes for Star Tours. This time Darth Vader tried to stop us from getting away, we ended up in the middle of the pod races, and almost got blown up by a Bounty Hunter!

We had time to do one more quick ride before going to lunch. I was debating between the train and Mr. Toad. Since the Train is not quick we opted for the toad.

We narrowly escaped the cops and did burn in hell, so we decided that was enough that we needed some nourishment, and with that we headed out of the park.

My choice for dining was going to be the Uva Bar, but it has been completely dismantled and the “Disney fences” were up. It turns out though that Catal was serving the same menu for lunch as the Uva Bar, so we decided to there.

Our view

DSCN4889.jpg

They had “salad” growing next to our balcony view table.

DSCN4890.jpg

Arline ordered the Cobb Salad. She said that her tomatoes were incredibly delicious, and I had some of the bacon and it was really tasty. I imagine all of it was pretty good!

DSCN4891.jpg

I was torn between their French Dip and the Lamburger, it came with Feta, some kind of Aoli, Arugula and pickled piquillo peppers and Uva fries. I asked the waiter and he said, “Oh for sure, the burger, we are known for them.” I was so glad that I did! First off, over 10 years ago, Fran and I took a weekend weekday at home. We booked a room at a hotel in Costa Mesa where they had a Patina Group restaurant just to get away from life, but not be too far away. We dined at the restaurant for dinner the night of our stay, and ended up there for breakfast as well. I remember back then we checked out of the hotel sort of late and missed breakfast (or I just wasn’t in the mood anymore) so my first meal was Steak and Pomme Frites. They were the BEST fries I’d ever eaten and they were the same ones that they served me at Catal. Here was my meal.

The only drawback was that we sat down to lunch before 1:30PM, we were supposed to be at the spa at 2:45PM and while our meal arrived quickly, after that our server was hard to find. We wanted to ask for the check from 2:15 on (maybe earlier). We hardly got out of there by 2:30PM and make it to our appointments by the skinny skin skin.

The rest of the day was heavenly. We both opted for massages with a salt body polish. Because the place is so small, I did the salt polish first and massage second. Arline did the massage first and then salt polish. We were done with showering off the salt and getting dressed by about 5PM, settled up the bill and hit the road to go back home.

It turned out that we ended up that evening going out to the Sears outlet in Brea to get credit for a stove that we decided against installing in the current apartment in renovation. We closed the outlet with Arline and I shopping for clothes, and ended up at a local BBQ chain for dinner.

So after this I’ll have one more update on this PTR and I think I’ll let it go by the wayside. Don’t despair, I’ve still got the Cheating on Mickey with Harry PTR which I’m hoping might have some updates as F&W events are announced. I’m also going to start my cruise PTR because I have all kinds of things to tell everyone about on that. Plus the cruise forum has all kinds of people interested in TRs, and I’m hoping some people will come on board and help me out with some of our dilemmas.

Thanks for reading, and now that the Long Beach parade is over, I hope I have some breathing room! BTW we were a big hit today. I’m exhausted and about to hit the hay!

Ahhh......sorry, I'm firing slow tonight. As of our plans now we'll be in Epcot on the 15, 17, 21, and 23 for sure. What are your trip dates?

The 15th would be perfect. We are still at BCV and are planning on doing all our meals from the kiosks, just sort of "eating around the world".

The 17th we plan on doing the same after checkout. I made a reservation for CA Grill for dinner that night since we'll be at the VWL. We were going to be at CA Grill Friday night, but I'm thinking that I want to do the dessert party on Friday night.

I saw a Dining review where they went to the Dessert Party (that I was supposed to attend last year) and it looked awesome. The only thing is that the Swan and Dolphin classic is happening the first weekend we get there and the Jamborinis are attending that and have said it is really great, better than PFTS. I'm planning that for Friday 10/12 when we check into BCV, I'm up in the air about whether or not to do it again Sat 10/13 or actually go to PFTS.

However, I saw a review of Artist Point (which was our original plan for dinner 10/17 when we check in at VWL) and there was nothing on the menu I really wanted to eat. That's when I kind of thought we should change to CA Grill for the first night at VWL and go with the dessert party for the last night of our trip. Right now I just have a bunch of reservations under mine and Fran's name, so I have to cancel some before the new fees kick in, but I will go over all this again in the "Cheating PTR".

Long and short, it would be great to plan to get toether on the 15th, and perhaps walk around the world and eat at a few different kiosks while we do so. We are planning on doing that for the day, so we are flexible. Those are our only plans for the day and we are staying at BCV so if Fran wants to go back to the Villa and rest, we can continue to stroll, savor and chat and be silly. :thumbsup2

Now you've made me crave a burger!!! :rotfl:

Nice update....nice food porn.

And I want me some spa treatment too!

(Can you tell I just want, I want, I want?????) :rotfl2:

Your day with Arline sounded wonderful :) Love all the pictures.

Can't wait to hear about your cruise plans :)
