Hi everyone! Ok we have been thinking about doing the vacation club for a while now. Finally..we are going to do it! I just have a few questions about a couple different things. First of all..our guide told me that Disney will match the points that we buy....Do we have to pay monthly for all of those points or just the points that we buy? Also I know in the book we got we can use our points for the regular hotels (moderate; say coronado). How does that work? I am going to call my guide today some time but just curious for right now.

First of all, congrads on the decision! I have never regretted my DVC. I think your question pertains to Developer's Points and no, you don't pay maintenance fees on those. You usually have one year to use them and cannot waitlist any reservations nor transfer them to someone else.

Second of all, you CAN use points to book reservations at other WDW resorts, but you will find that that is not an economical use of those points because it usually costs more to stay in a hotel than at a villa. You can get cash discounts on certain things with the membership, and discounts from regular WDW rooms if you have an annual pass. Most of us find that once we stay at DVC, we are spoiled for staying at anything less. If it is the amenities you want at another resort, you have the option of "pool hopping" to most resorts because you are a DVC member staying on points.

I am sure there are DVC purchasers who regret their purchase at sometime in the future, but you will be hard pressed to find them on these boards.

These are developer points for a one time use. They would limit the number of developer points they will give you and not match one for one unless you get only 160 points to start.

Anytime you use your points outside of DVC reservations, you have to pay a $95 transfer fee. So if you book CSR, you use loads of points plus pay $95 for the stay. Not really worth it in my book.
