Thinking of taking ART on a weekend + recommendations for stuff to do around Anaheim

I just noticed that I could see where my scheduled bus is. Makes it a little bit easier.

So it was one day, five rides, one cancelled ride (forgot to specify two passenger). The only ride that didn’t go smoothly was the initial one from ARTIC to Porto’s Buena Park. That kept on getting delayed, but it was easy to spot once it arrived. That one picked up a Disneyland employee and a family going to Disneyland, but then we headed to Buena Park. Porto’s was kind of intimidating at first, but made more sense when we got there.

The other four rides were where we were the only passengers. The drivers were all really good, although one corrected me when I said it felt like a taxi. But absolutely she said it was a better bargain than a taxi or Uber. Out last ride was from Disneyland (after seeing fireworks). That was a bit tougher since our bus didn’t have a license plate specified and there were about five ART buses there, but we remembered the driver’s name from a previous ride.

It worked out really well for us, although I’m not sure what up with the tickets. We just flashed them to the drivers, but they were never “activated” nor anything printed on them. When we bought them, the customer service guy just pulled them from a drawer.

lol yeah. I kept trying to scan ours and when they didn't work, the drivers were like just show me. they have a lot of kinks to work out but when it does work, it is great!

We didn’t use the app to buy virtual passes. I wanted to pay cash and waited for the customer service agent at ARTIC to show up. That’s the window near the front that also sells FlixBus and some other tickets. The agent just pulled them from a drawer and slipped them under the window. The ART pass has a magnetic stripe and message to insert to activate. Ironically it had an ad for Universal Studios. They look like parking garage tickets. I think they’re supposed to be inserted into a fare box which then prints the date or dates of validity. However, there was nothing to take them on any of the newer buses. I wouldn’t test it, but I would think that nobody would notice if they were ever used again.

There are supposedly some rides that can be complimentary, such as a ride from ARTIC (maybe to ARTIC too?) by displaying a valid Amtrak ticket. Maybe Metrolink too?

3. You can call an Uber or Lyft to the station for a trip to the park (app required, costs apply), or you can request a free Anaheim Resort Transit bus pickup with the A-Way WeGo app (Apple and Android devices). Download it on your mobile device and sign up with an email address, and select "ART" or "ANAHEIM – ART AND FRAN" as your transit region. Select "On-Demand" and tap the option that says "Disneyland Main Transportation Center – 14". Your starting "From" area is ARTIC Bay 12 and 13. Wait at Bus Bay 12 for the next Anaheim Resort Transit bus to arrive. It will take you from the train station to the Disneyland® Resort.
4. When the bus arrives, show the driver your valid Pacific Surfliner printed or e-ticket and board for free! The ride to the park takes approximately 20 minutes.
