We are entertaining the idea of purchasing a DVC. We went to DW the last three years and really love going. Can someone explain how DVC works? Are there annual fees or hidden costs? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much. :goodvibes

Look for a conversation created 4-5 days ago, called

"DVC for dummies? ".

It has alot of information.

Check the threads for the "should I or should I not?" Having bought in recently, I can tell you that our guide was very up front, there were not any hidden costs or anything that we didn't know about before we signed. So far so good. We had explored some time shares prior to DVC and DVC was the most honest of them all. They are very up front and answer all of your questions honestly. If you aren't sure, post a thread and ask on the boards. DVC isn't for everyone, but I'm very happy that we (finally) took the plunge!

there are no hidden costs.

pay for your points up front.

pay annual fees (roughly$4.50-$5 per point for 2008) which will generally trend up over the years.

use the point charts in the link above to figure how many pts you need (but if you can book 10-11 months in advance, buy at the resort you want to stay at...if that's AKV, then knock yourself out.)

(ok...if you enjoy it and start wanting to go to wdw more often and add-on more pts and spending more time and money at wdw in larger and nicer accomodations...maybe that's kind of a hidden cost...)

There's a great website called: DVCnews.com that also includes more in depth info about pricing and a cost/benefit analysis.

I spent $40,000 on DVC last fall and have already booked more than $16,000 of vacations for 2007-2008!
