Thinking of changing resort ressies....

I have booked a trip at pop during the free dining in september. I am wondering, before I call, if it is possible to change to another resort mid-way. Like pop for 3 days, and then AKL for the rest. Do you think they would do something like that, or would they not do it, because it is a special promo? Thank you tons!

The biggest problem with switching resorts with the dining plan, free or paid, is that you must purchase a ticket in order to get the package with room and dining plan. So if you switched rooms, it would be two different packages, buying at least a one day ticket for each person in the room, twice.

I don't know if you can modify once the promotion booking time has past, but someone will post here who knows.

However, with CRO moving people OUT of AKL due to the construction, I would be very surprised if they allowed you to move IN! If you want to do a split stay and they allow you to upgrade, you might consider picking another resort for the second half of your trip.

Also, it will be considered two stays and you will need a ticket package for both. Might cost you more than you intended.

I have read reports from others who have booked a resort stay for the Free Dining wanting to change resorts now and they are unable to. The promotional offer has expired. There were a certain number of rooms available for the promotion and they seem to be all booked.
And as others have said, you would need to buy another 1 day base ticket for the second resort for each person in your party to even be eligible for the DDP, free or not.
So it probabaly will not work out for you.

Thank you for the replies. We had booked a 7 day trip and have all of the magic your way plus dining for all 7 days, and I thought It would be nice to surprise the wife with an upgrade... So how to surprise the wife, will continue in another post.

I just tried to upgrade and was told there are no deluxe rooms available for the promotion during my dates (Sept 8-15). However, those saying you can't do it after the promotion date are somewhat misleading...if there are rooms, they will let you do it. I did it last year.

Yes...your biggest challenge is going to be finding a room to upgrade too. Disney had about four different promos running during the same timeframe as free DDP plus a lot of guests have been upgraded from other resorts. Pickins' are pretty slim at this point. Hopefully whatever you decide, you will call and get a great CM that can help you find something that works.

Even though you have a ticket package for all seven days under your current reservation, you would need to have two ticket packages with a split stay if you want the dining plan (free or not). A four day ticket and a three day ticket, for example, cost more than a seven-day ticket. From Mousesavers:

a three day ticket including tax - 204.48
a four-day ticket including tax - 215.15
a seven-day ticket including tax - 223.63
park hopper option (per ticket, regardless of ticket length) - 47.93

You could add several hundred dollars to your cost before you even figure in the increased room rate for a deluxe. This is the worst case scenario, though. If you did a six-day and a one-day, you would pay 221.52 for each six-day and 71.36 for each one-day, plus any hopper options.

I agree with others, between the varying promotions, the fact your trip is close, and the AKL thing, availablity is a big issue. I really love Pop Century and think that since you are saving money by staying there, you could surprise the wife in other ways. A nice few hours at one of the spas (Grand Floridian, Coronado Springs or Saratoga Springs). Maybe buy her a nice gift from one or more of the countries in the World Showcase. See if you can get into one of the two ts restaurants for a nice meal. The great thing about WDW is that there are lots of nice and unique ways to spend your money! And a deluxe resort will be there for your next trip. Good luck!

You guys are great thanks! I will just stick with POP, which we love btw, but at the time of booking, we didnt have the $$$ to fund a deluxe or mod, but I recieved a very handsome raise at work, and thought I could surprise her. I have another thread in the attractions forum about things I can do to surprise her if anyone has any ideas that would be awesome! Thanks a ton! Oh btw, is there a tinkerbell character that wanders around WDW?
