Got a letter this morning from TA telling me that they are changing flight times and that we have a stop over for fuel on the way back , not very happy
I Booked an non stop flight so we would not have to stop :furious:

anyway got me thinking why not change the whole holiday and have a right stop over and have a few days in New York first to visit family then head down to Florida
So I have spend the whole day on the net checking and come up with some good enough flight prices
Now all I have to do is convince DH that it's a great idea
Anyone done this before and is it very tiring
It would be 3 nights New York / 3 night Cruise (which DH dosen't know about) / 9 Days WDW
or would we be better doing New York on the way home
only bad thing is we would miss the DIS Met on the 22nd Oct

Why Can I not be happy with what I have booked :confused3

Jackie who are you flying with? They have a rule on US airlines that means if you book non stop and then they change to a layover you have the right to be transferred to a non stop flight.

As to whether to do New York on the way or the way back it depends how tiring each part of the trip will be, I was exhausted after a shopping sight seeing trip in NY and I am after a cram it all in Disney trip.

You might want to think about the weather too. I assume it will be cooler in NY at that time of year so you could go on the way back home to acclimatise yourselves back to UK weather...

Thanks for the advice Rosie
I had booked a package so will only loss the depoist if I decided to change,
they will change the hoilday to another flight or hoilday
but it is working out cheaper to walk away from them
Do not know WHY I booked a package hoilday :furious: as it is years since I done that

:rolleyes1 Nearly got DH into my way of think :Pinkbounc

i think that with the price of air fuel this will happen a lot, as it wastes a lot carying all that extra weight for that trip.On sheduled all the do is surcharge you for the fuel.As most of the fist day is traveling and refulling takes about an hour i would put up with it IMHO

That's exactly what we did last year! We flew from Shannon to New York, stayed there for 3 nights and then took an internal flight from New York to Florida. It was fabulous, went like a dream.

We stayed on the Upper West Side in Manhatten - such a beautiful neighbourhood. We got tons of stuff done in the 2 full days and one evening and had a ball - Statan Island Ferry (a must do because you get to see the Statue of Liberty up close and the ferry is free!), Central Park, Museum of Natural History, Empire State Building, Ground Zero (very sad), Times Square and visited lots of shops (including FAO Schwartz and Toy 'r Us on Times Square for the kids). Our flight from JFK to MCO went really well with Song Airlines (part of Delta but Delta are in crisis right now so I wouldn't book them).

We then flew directly from Orlando to Shannon at the end of our holiday but Aer Lingus no longer do direct flights from Orlando anymore.

This year we're flying with Continental Airlines via New York but we're going straight on to Orlando (after a short break in the airport). In a way I'm sad that we're not seeing New York again but we just want a longer time in Orlando and will hopefully go back to New York in a separate trip in a few years.

I would highly recommend it. Check out Aer Lingus prices from Shannon to New York. They're very cheap. Good luck deciding. :)

Oh by the way, it wasn't tiring at all. It was very exciting!! We took a break on the third day in Disney World and just chilled out and lazed around and that was all we needed to recharge our batteries. It's very doable and that was with three children including a baby.

Jackie - we planned to stop over in new york this year as we were going to fly with Continental from Belfast. We wanted our own seat for DS who will be 14 months but were finding it difficult to get a car seat we could take on the flight so we have ended up going with VA.

Have you been to NY before? Think it would be a great idea for you to stop over and not tiring at all! :teeth:

I would argue with them that changing from non-stop to indirect flights is a material change to your package and that you want to cancel and have a full refund.

I completely agree.

It really is a big deal for me as I hate take offs so much that I will always pay extra to get a direct flight. If a direct flight was booked I would take a direct flight to Tampa or Miami and drive.

Good luck and let us know what you do.

  Well New york here we come

I have booked with Continental from Belfast we are staying in NY for 3 nights then heading down to Florida for 13 nights (3 of which are on the Disney Wonder that no one knows about yet)

I have now to write to the TA that I booked the package from and see what happens :wizard: (Anyone good at writing letters) when I was on the phone they didn't give me much hope
It is only the depoist I have paid so far , which I have saved by changing my dates

the only sad :sad2: thing is I will be missing the DIS Met in Ragan Rd

Thanks every one for all your great advice :cheer2:

Rell ysorry you're not going to be able to make the DIS meet Jackie - I was looking forward to meeting you :)

Hope you have a great time in NYC and enjoy the rest of your holiday though.

Want to be selfish and stamp my feet on this one (it is going to be the meet of the year you know :teeth: ) but you will have a wonderful time in New York and would be silly to miss out. Hope you have a great time :thumbsup2

That's exactly what we're doing in November - from Bristol. We were trying to do Disney on a shoe string hence no stop over in NYC - also it's November so we figured it could be cold and didn't want to pack two sets of clothes.

Will you post back after your trip and let us know how the brief stop over was - and how easy it was to transfer? We usually fly non stop from Gatwick to International :goodvibes

Glad you got your trip sorted Jackie - now go and put your foot down for that full refund!

Check out Mytravelrights.com for some helpful info.

Thanks Roise :thumbsup2

The planning has started
I have to write to TA , not very hopefull :confused3 , following the phone call
but I will check out that web page

Well the letter is in the post :wizard:
so we will have to wait and see what reply they send :confused3

Oldest DS has decided to join us on the New York leg of the trip
( too old for Disney )so i booked his flight yesterday and the prices have gone away up

The flights i booked the other day have gone up over a hundred euro each

So the moral of the story is :rolleyes1
If you see a good price, go for it :cheer2:
