Just got back from WDW, don't know all the abbrevations-so excuse me if I mess them up-with wife and 3 kids(7-5-3). Bought a Westgate TS but going to cancel because they lied to us-after doing some research that should be no suprise to anyone. They told me I could exchange and use getaways inot Disney resorts. They seemed to be suprised when I told them that Disney switched to RCI. Anyway...took a tour with DVC. After doing some research, I think buying a small amont of points is good for me. That way we can do the WDW thing every couple of years and still manage to take other vacations to different places.

However, if we did buy more points. Switching to RCI is a new switch so it may be hard to answer my question. But after looking at some of the resorts with RCI, some spark an interest with me. Grand Wailea, Grand Velas, and some resorts in Cancun. So my question is how hard would it be to exchange to these resorts? Impossible? Also, how do all inclusive resorts work? Do you pay more?

Thanks

If trading w/ RCI is something that appeals to you, DVC is not for you. You can find something that trades equally well on the resale market for much less upfront, and less maintenance fees.

All inclusive resorts are terrible trades for the most part because it ends up costing you your trade, plus fees that almost equal the cost of staying at the resort without the trade.

You will probably get better responses to your inquiries on the Timeshare Users Group boards: www.tugbbs.com. They are usually much a much more knowledgeable group about timeshares outside of DVC.

When we bought we thought the same thing, we'll only go to disney every few years.

Now several years later, We have never traded, although we did think about it this yerar. Instead we rented our points to my brother and took the cash and booked another vacation.

We are now going 1-2 times per year and just added more points. DVC sucks you in! (this is a good thing!)

Cancelling -- usually referred to as rescinding can be difficult --make sure you do it ASAP and follow all their instructions and keep copies of everything. If you're not familiar with TUG ( http://tugbbs.com/forums/ ) (Timeshare Users Group) you can find lots of helpful info there (and other people who are not fond of Westgate). Please do lots of research about direct buying of TS and also resales before making a purchase.

TUGgers will emphatically tell you to rescind. (Silly me, a PP already directed you to TUG!).
