Hard-Anodized, Nonstick Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Tri-Ply?

I still have my Tefal set from when we got married (15 years). That should tell you that I really don't cook that often ;) LOL But, we need to upgrade as our finish is starting to come off.

I don't cook often - mostly noodles, spaghetti, mac n cheese, ground beef meals, eggs....nothing fancy.

I'm just looking for something that will hold up well and distrubute heat the best. I dont' care if I cannot put them in the dishwasher -- I always wash pots/pans by hand anyway.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Thank you!!!

I absoluately adore my Rachel Ray cookware. The silicone covered handles make them oven safe too which I love!

They come in all kinds of really cool shapes and sizes.

I have the 10 piece set and then a few of the other additional pots and pans.

Professional cookware from a pro that knows. Featuring a heavy-gauge, hard-anodized construction, so you get durable pieces that provide even heat distribution, time after time. And a nonstick interior for low-fat cooking, easy food release and even easier cleanup. With silicone-grip, bright orange handles that are oven safe up to 400°F, giving you a comfortable, safe, slip-free grip. Plus, convenient glass lids allow you to keep an eye on your foods, while locking in moisture, flavor and nutrients at the same time. A versatile addition you'll want to add to your kitchen, ASAP.

I agree with this! I have the same set and I absolutely love it!!!

I like the hard-anodized myself (I have Caphlon). But I do have one stainless steal frying pan, for those things that you WANT the food to stick, like to get a good sear on something, or if you need the sticky stuff at the bottom of the pan to make a pan sauce. You just can't get that with non-stick. If you watch the Food Network at all, you'll see that most cooks/chefs have a mix of pots and pans and use the one best suited to the type of cooking they're doing that day.

I have to admit when I went to replace my pots and pand I went to Costco and got their Kirkland hard anodized non stick cookware. At the time it was $149 for a really big set. I have been thrilled.

You can't get extra pieces for it (save the turkey roasting pan).

But it was great value for quality stuff.

Are the silicone handles cool to the touch or do you need an oven mitt?
How about the pot lids?

You still need an oven mitt when taking them out of the oven.

Ya know I have never needed to put the lid in the oven so I'm not sure about that question.

I am talking on the stove. I have a cruddy set now that I cannot even take off the pot lid without an oven mitt.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Nope I've never needed a mitt or anything to take the lids off on the stovetop.

Goody....I am in need of a new set. I have looked at them.
I did buy 2 Cephalon fry pans to test them and didn't care for it. :confused3
They seem cheap to me. But they were seperate pieces so maybe that is why.

Calphalon has different grades, the cheap ones you find in most discount/department stores are just that, cheap. I am still trying to justify a set of All Clad stainless, but in the leantime I use a lot of LeCreuset. I have discovered that the non stick stuff in all of them, regardless of how much it costs, starts coming off quickly. I'd try some of the Food Network ones if you are going to buy them at Kohl's. I think they have some stainless steel sets. Stainless and Cast iro seem to distribute the heat well. Also, the non stick seems to come offeasier if you do a lot of high temp cooking.

I have the same Rachel Ray set and I absoulutely love it. You can buy open stock at TJMaxx.

I bought a couple of sets of Greenpan cookware about six months ago, and absolutely love it. It's sold on HSN, and by Martha Stewart I think, not sure if it's sold at Kohl's. I bought mine on Ebay, saved some money even with the shipping. Here's some info from one of the web site about the materials it is made with:

Thermolon, the non-stick coating in GreenPan Cookware, is the first environmentally friendly, PTFE-free one on the market. Traditional non-stick pans use perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which is a synthetic chemical used to manufacture polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and is toxic when released into the air.

I have had All-Clad for years and they still look new! I can't say enough good about them!!! :cool1: So if you do decide to invest in a set, I know you won't be sorry. And, there is no need for non-stick, nothing sticks to them. The only time I use non-stick is when I fry bacon and eggs, and for that I have a non-stick skillet. Nothing has ever stuck to my All-Clad.

I have LeCreuset also and I love them too!! I use them for soups and stews. :thumbsup2

That explains it. :thumbsup2

Yea, I want the expensive Le Creuset set...very pretty. I want red.;)

How about that HUGE pot. I drool over that one.:lmao:

Wow All-Clad is listed at 699.99 at Williams-Sonoma.

LE Creuset is wonderful for cooking at low temps due to the cast iron. I have a small oval and a larger oval oven I think they call them. The smaller one is great for small pots of stw or soup, the larger one I generally use for a pot roast or spaghetti sauce. I did just pick up a decent Cuisinart fryer 12 or 14" with a glass lid for $29.99 at TJ Maxx, list was like $59.99. I have used it for pasta sauce and just lst night to cook some yellow squash with onions and butter. I did notice that the quality isn't really good, it heats up way too quickly, never a good sign in my book as you can't afford to walk away for a second for fear of burning something. I noticed two different Rachel Ray round ovens there for like $39 and $49, but I have not been that crazy about the RR stuff. I also saw the show on HSN about the Greenpans, they looked interesting, especially about the high heat factor. :)

CHeck the Le Creuset outlets, I have found great deals around the MLK holiday. Also Williams Sonoma sometimes has a little bit of a discount. My best deal though was at our local cooking store, last year at Easter the owner hid easter eggs with % off coupons throughout the store. Older DD found one for me and came up saying "you really want to use this one". I got my large oval "soup pot " as I call it for 50% off, so around $100!
