Thinking of Buying DVC

Hi there,

I have posted this on the DVC UK board but I thought I'd post it here as well.

We are strongly considering DVC membership as we are big Disney fans and the weak dollar seems to make it a good deal at the moment. (We live in the UK)

We are thinking of getting enough points to allow us to have a two-week holiday every three years by borrowing and banking. This would give us the flexibility to have shorter, more frequent holidays if we like. We like the Boardwalk for it's convenient location. We would probably look to buy a resale, probably though The Timeshare Store.

Our most likely time of vacation is Easter so we'd be looking for a UY of March or earlier.

Does anyone have any comments on this approach. I've read through the threads on this board which has been very helpful but I may have missed something.

We have a couple of questions at the moment.

Why is Boardwalk so much cheaper than the Beach Club at resale ($80-$88 compared to $86-$93)?

Does anyone have any idea how the prices of resale will go, bearing in mind the current economic situation. Does Disneys ROFR put a floor under prices.

thanks in advance for your help,

Liam

My 2 cents is this, the BWV runs a little less because it is a larger resort than the BCV but not the largest in the DVC family. So supply and demand may take hold here so there are more BWV resales just because of the fact there is a greater ownership. BCV also has a waiting list for points...not sure but BWV may not. This waiting list will make DVD take advantage of ROFR more often therefore driving up the resale prices to a level where DVD will not buy the points back.

Future pricing, I think the price per point will only increase through Disney. Especially when the Hawaii property comes on line in 2010 and who know the big surprise at the Contemporary could drive demand up as well. As long as DVD continies to practice ROFR prices will remain steady and may even increase incremenally as Disney's sell price rise.

Just my 2 cents....

Also, BWV is also a bit older than BCV. As mentioned, I do believe that it does have a lot to do with the fact that BCV is smaller than BWV.

Although, I am a little biased since BCV is one of my home resort, but I find it a lot better (just my opinion) than BWV. We stayed at the BWV last May and found that the room and pool needed a lot of work. It looked a lot more run down than any of the other ones we have stayed in (OKW, VWL and BCV).

However, the location is just a convenient and great as BCV. We were contemplating whether to buy resale for BWV since it had some standard view rooms (less points) and BCV had only one type, but we decided to go with BCV since it was our favourite resort and has been getting more difficult to book unless it's 11 months in advance.

However, I think it's just a matter of choice. I have heard a lot of people prefer BWV over BCV.
